The process is limited by one factor: In order to reproduce the wildcat, the eggs of very similar species must be used. Unfortunately, the farther back in time a species became extict, the more time evolution has had to mutate still nonextinct species to the point where hybrid breeding is genetically impossible. This limitation is very similar to how modern chimpanzees cannot mate with humans, even though our dna is nearly identical.
