  • True, I would expect more from directors like James Cameron, but Michael Baye is directing this. All I can expect from him is bullshit.

  • actually, i think the joke in this movie is so lame! i mean....GOD DAMN LAME! and that CGI is cool just because you can clearly see that tiny pieces of detail they worked hard for, in the end the CGI is nothing special.

  • Michael Bay never tries when it comes to the story.

All you see in his films is bombs.

The only movie he captures caracter development was in the island for the first half

  • I guess someone didnt like my opinion. Well guess what its the truth. The movie is call Transformers not Shia and Megan. Can someone tell me when was Jetfire a old robot.

  • Bay did kind of fuck up on ROTF. The movie could have been a little longer. The movie is called Transformers not Shia and Megan. Jetfire could have been much cooler. Though the Prime and Megatron battle was amazing. You got to love the twins and how they trashed Devastator. Sideswipe, Arcee, Elita One, and Chromia needed bigger parts. Poor Sideways I was expecting him not to get owned so easily. Im still waiting for Dinobots, at least one.

  • micheal bay is a great director bro but the story wuz fked up man

the last action sequence proves his ability but how they kill the fallen is bullshit

  • about your comment dude. i dont think you like robot movies like this one. your just a drama lover.

  • Rubbish, the film was a waste, the characters were absent and the film was all Blow like the story. Anyone who knows TF'S knows that this was wasted, thanks to Bay once again a waste of "what could have been a long and meaningful Bluray on my shelf" (Seinfeld Parody for you there) And another one just 4 fun "Mr.Bay No Soup For You"

  • well i grew up with watching everyday watching transformers. well base on the revenge of the fallen i watch yesterday. the movie is really awsome.

  • too badd the damn movie didnt have all the robot interaction like u hoped :(( i rlly wanted to see that but it didnt happen much :/ most of the decepticons dont even talk and Starscream is a damn WUSS in this movie :/ Megatron is the Fallen's bitch and it pretty much wasnt all that great :/

  • fuck this guy is anoying why cant you just put some music on or something i just want to see the thingy

  • See here's the thing. The naysayers are actually the real "fanboys". They reason is that yes, it was a kids show, but it was THEIR kids' show. While it was campy and cheesy and immature back then, THAT generation has grown up and want Transformers to grow up as well. Here's the other problem, it's still just a children's franchise. The kids are still into it. The toys are still found in toy stores. It's a kids' franchise, so why can't we expect that? Why do you want a "Dark Knight" equivalent?

  • Exactly

  • IMAX!!! ima go see this movie in IMAX!!..i remember when i went to see star trek it was awesome!! the sound the quality!! everything!!!

  • LOVED THE FALLEN even though it does not explore the characters as it should... :D

    Cant wait for 3...

  • Same here

  • dude i think your over reacting we all no were going to see huge robots beat the crap out of each other not to see what optimus does in his free tim

  • Prime becomes a gundam! hehe sorry for the spoiler =)

  • does optimus prime die in the in the new one please tell me if you know

  • yeah he dose it sucks..

  • yes, but jetfire sacrifices himself to combine and bring prime back

  • he dos then comes back

  • Yea he dies but sam puts the matrix inside him to bring him bac then the fallen takesit frm him then jetfire sacrafices himself and gives optimus his parts,to basically make him stronger

  • yea he does but then he comes back

  • holy shit. is it just me or are the deceptacons the size of mountins?

  • well, from what I hear (from an interview with Michael Bay) this film will be MUCH more serious than the first, and will have MUCH less of the quirky humor.

    thank goodness

  • I agree with the covewr up of the humor in the first one and how there was no real conflict. it was kind of like a video game with little missions. and at the end of the movie its basically. congrats youve stoped megatron once again

  • seriously though man, its no dark knight classic but it's better than a twilight vampire romance. Be appreciative.

  • While the movie may not be great, us Transformer fans are pretty lucky. I mean, just look at what they have done with Dragonball *shudder*

  • Again Well Said.

Yes it does seem like theres a shitload of Transformers.

The Human characters are..'meh;. Should be more Transformers than the human characters.

  • Well said. I honestly do believe that the characters need to be more well developed in contrast to the first film simply because it makes for a sustainable and more interesting movie franchise. The special effects are great but only barely touch upon the potential that is the Transformers Story. Transformers is actually more than a story. It's a saga to be quite frank. While the special affects are second to none and extremely realistic; teasing our imaginations, M. B. doesn't do it justice.

  • yeah, but the thing is that much of America wasn't really used to robots or things of that nature; thoe few that were in most cases were also used to humans playing a bigger roll. With trail blazing movies like this one you've gotta blaze the trail slowly as to not turn off people who are new to the franchise. Since people have now settled in to the thought of robots having actual character developements, its safer to have more robots, and more character developements for robots

  • Let's think about the first movie for a sec. It was fun with good action sequences. It's clearly not a soap opera. It's not Days of Our Decepticons or As the Cube Turns. How deep should we expect it to go? And, like I mentioned, the movie takes place on earth and technically, it was the humans that killed off Megatron. One would expect for a relationship to form between two allies like this. Give the second movie a chance. More of what ya want is coming. Give it time to develop, folks.

  • Comparisons between the film and its source material are to be expected in this case because it's quite unavoidable. Of course the movie won't be exactly the same as the show, I'm not saying that at all. What I mean is that the way that the show had it with how many Tranformers there were at first was a better idea than what the film had. The first film should've been more about the Transformers. Sure it didn't have to be real deep, but there should've been real characters instead of clices.

  • Agreed. Yeah, I wouldn't have minded that, either. But then again, you start off a 3 movie series with 50 robots....how do you expand from there? Besides, remember, Optimus and his team went to Earth to extract the cube or destroy it, they didn't plan on sticking around. The first movie was about their first Earth mission. Now that they're staying on the planet....there's a chance for more character development.

  • The amount of Transformers both Autobot and Decepticon whom were characterized in any real way where okay for the first movie. It's just that those characters should've been expanded upon and made the film's primary focus aside from Sam. As a matter of fact, by having like three groups of humans to keep up with throughout the first film hurt Sam's characterization. Of all of the humans, Sam is the actual protagonist. He's the one who interacts with the Autobots the most.

  • Okay, but I think the point of the first movie is to show us how the Autobots end up buddy-buddy with humans. Notice how at the end of the first movie, Prime said "Sam, I owe you my life. We are in your debt." It took the first movie to establish how "Spike" became a close friend of the Autobots and how humans became a vital ally. Without the humans, Prime would've died and Megatron would've gotten the cube. That's the point of the first movie! The second will have the development.

  • That's fine, but the Transformers should've been better characterized. They lacked great personality and some where out and out steriotypes, especially Jazz who went from being as cool as ice in the TV show to being a tough black guy steriotype in the first film AND gets killed! But action over a meaningful story is to be expected from Michael Bay, who by the way started out as a music video director. He's great at making stuff explode, but not so great at character development.

  • Ah, now I agree with you. I didn't agree with the part about less human interaction because, of course, it's earth and also, the Autobots need the humans. But yeah, the stereotype was just kinda blah and it bites that he died. Bay started off with the most recognizable Autobots and Megatron and Starscream. Most of us know how these characters are from the cartoon. Though it was a rough start for newcomers. Yeah. So there should've been more characterization....somehow. Yep.

  • I never said that the last movie should've had less Human interation, just that there were way too many Humans to keep up with that only distracted from the Humans that actually mattered as characters and that it wasn't enough about the Transformers.

  • Omg yeah u are over reacting. Its a movie about robots fighting each other not a fucking romance novel about robots finding friendship and love.

  • For the harsh critics: Yes, we need more robot to robot interaction. But let's not forget....IT'S EARTH!!!! If we wanted all robots....they should have shot the movie on Cybertron. Duh. Anyway, they didn't build Autobot City yet so they're still hiding AMONG humans. Give it time, folks. It's developing...Bay couldn't have exhausted all of his tricks yet on one movie. Granted, I gotta say that I wish Starscream didn't look like a freaking crackhead Dorito...but whatever.

  • Yeah, but remember, there were already dozens of Autobots and Decepticons on the old show clearly. The great thing that the show did was establish that there were MANY Tranformers with Optimus Prime and Megatron when they crashed on Earth and those characters eventually got deferentiated as individuals when necessary. Even though they haven't built Autobot City yet, the movie should still be about the Transformers, which the first film wasn't.

  • Just like several movies about either comics or cartoons, it doesn't always go exactly as the original ideas. The movie started with a few of each faction. So in that sense, we can't compare the cartoon with the movie since the movie diverted a bit from the ark idea. But still, these robots are on earth and I think Bay is showing that Autobots are friends of mankind in the first one and in the second one, it'll be more about the bots since there will be defections and such.

  • i thought transformers 1 was a comedy n it wasnt that much fighbting it nwas jus decepticons hiding and waiting to hit...

  • I remember seeing this one week and almost everyone had this on their page, but now, this is the only place that has it,and its their commentary, anyone know where the original clip is?

  • WTF whellie is a decepticon???

  • Well according to his bio he will be a decepticon but only because he's afraid of them. But then he leaves them and joins the Autobots.

  • Alright. You redeemed yourself at the end.

  • lol...I'm doing a Pre-Re on this...it should restore your faith totally...look for it next week.

  • Really? Awesome, can't wait.

  • I used to respect your opinion very highly, but your praise of this atrocious series is starting to make me rethink my view.

Transformers is GOD AWFUL mediorce filmmaking at it's best.

  • in the cartoon his name is Hot Shot, not Bumble Bee. why they give him the name Bumble Bee 4? that's such a gay name.

  • you obviously haven't watched the original show

  • My thoughts exactly!

  • For one, in the original his name IS Bumblebee. And the character is Hot ROD not Hot Shot you idiot -.-

  • he was Hot shot in every season from Robots in digguise to Cybertron, that's 4 seasons for ya

  • I can understand it but still go see it and just don't overreact because who knows it might improve

  • The movie's called Transformers. Not Human Dialogue & transformers...

  • yeah but it will be stupid if there's no humans and just transformers

  • The television show was successful because the viewer identified with the Transformer's and the conflicts each had. The humans played a marginal part compared to the huge part the transformers had. It's more fun to pick a favorite transformer than it is to pick a favorite human

  • OMG u really want 2 have no humans in the film that means the autobots protecting nothing

  • How about less humans?

  • I'm glad this movie is gonna have more robot interactions & fights and less crappy human dialogue. Don't get me wrong, Dialogue's needed in the movie. But it's a movie about giant robots. There doing the talking & the fighting. And of course less human interaction.

The first movie had all the dialogue, character building etc. and not enough robot fights. This one is the opposite and I'm very happy with that.

  • I'm glad this movie is gonna have more robot interactions & fights and less crappy human dialogue. Don't get me wrong, Dialogue's needed in the movie. But it's a movie about giant robots. There doing the talking & the fighting. And of course less human interaction.

    DITTO!

  • At 3:14 we hear the Critic un-censored for the second time ! :P Good vid, tmpc

  • omg the last transformers bot in the trailer ( the one succking up sand) was devastator zomg

  • ha ha ha ha it was funny when bumblebee was crying. oh and what was he doing

  • This movie is total Bull.

They destroyed the characters that so many people have come up to know and love.

I'm sorry, but I really hate the transformers movie franchise, I feel they completely ruined an idea that had so much potential to be great. I'm hoping this is the "Joel Schumacher" generation of transformers, and then maybe later, we can get a real fan to make a real movie about this.

  • um dude its been one month wheres the preview review

  • awsome work man!

  • VERY observant as usual...couldn't have said it better myself!

  • I was born, and grew up in the early 90's, but I grew up with turtles, he-man and transformers, and I agree with you. the movies are shallow (if I can use that word) in the fact that there are more humans in the spotlight than transformers. and the story behind each autobot and decepticon should be explained better... even so, their names, which in the first one only got mentioned once or twice (for the decepticons, that is..)

  • well... we can't say anything for sure if this is just a blow of hot air to eat your popcorn to, or a great movie that lives up to the original..

  • Dude! Its all about the story and the characters. It just seems like a shit film with amazing action if there's no storyline or characters we can connect with. The last Transformers film was AMAZING but characters had to be made and a good storyline was needed otherwise new fans or other audience won't be able to get what the film is about. You dig?

  • Sadly, it seems more and more like new fans don't CARE about what the film/property is supposed to be about. <:(

  • you are right in every point....the movie should be much more Where are the characters? Where is the story?

It should be that with great tricks comes a great storyl. Think about it, the Matrix, the Lord of the Rings, The Dark Knight, Terminator. All of them with great cgi action, but with great stories and characters. I just hope that Transformers II improves on the story and on the characters(fat chance right?)as much as on the action

  • where did you get your footage from some of that was not in the trailer?

  • i like how micheal did with the transformers but the story line sucks.. big giant robot hide near the house and no one sees them.. just fuk it.. even for mogan fox, im not even interested in her kuz she couldnt act at all.. pretty and sexy yes but acting zero.

  • i think they will go more in depth with the autobots and decepticons because in the last transformers they told everything about the humans. so thats what i think

  • I do like interesting character development rather than superficial things. I like dramatic change in character from the begining to the end.

  • yeah... transformers 1 ... story shittttyyyy!!! i was one of the few people who came out the movies saying that was really bad. i hate michael bay

  • To begin with, i really think Bay has or never did have the essence of what the transformers series embodied, it was incredible story and charactization among the transformers, it was always a good vs evil, with optimus and megatron as the core components. With humans playing minor parts.

Now it seems bay has changed some classic transformers, along with storylines.

You better believe Peter Jackson or Cameron would have put characterization and story first

  • I didn't like Bay doing this movie. The first one was good but it could have been sooo much better. I totally agree that the robots should have been the focus and not the humans. I'm not gonna expect much because I think it won't be as good as the first. I think the story is gonna suck. Gosh I hope bay doesn't screw it up again.

  • Comment removed

  • i heard that leonard nimoy will voice the fallen.

  • it won't be a cinematic masterpiece. but, it shouldn't be just some cool effects and gags. i like shia and bay but they could do better.

  • it was removed because it was only meant for a limited time only.

  • if peter jackson developed this, from what i've seen from him, the movie would be 4 hours long. especialy with this many robots.

  • Part of what made the transformers so good in the first place, was the story and the characters, Watching the ENTIRE TV series i always came to the same conclusion, the episodes that talk about the backstory and personalities of the characters and how they came to be, were the ones you wished would continue forever. While those that were pure silly, just ended up getting old really soon.

and really, why are the autobots even in the first one? Ratchet doesnt medic anything, jazz just dies....

  • YEs megatorn was the real boss in thw old series while know it ooks just like a character out of hase that apears now and then for the sake of a nemesis

  • Hey Critic,

Fair use law does not apply to illegally leaked footage of a film that still has not yet hit the theaters. The only time this may apply is if the studio warrants the ok

  • I'm part of the generation who grew up with this, and so is my mother. Both of us found the clip with Bumblebee/Shia/Megan amusing.

  • megatron screwd up his voice box not star scream

  • the reason bumbles can't talk is because he was shot in the neck by starscream in Alliance (ROTF prequel comic)

  • For the reason why Bumblebee's voice is acting up again, read the "Alliance" comic prequel.

  • your facebook link doesn't work.

  • If Peter Jackson, Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton, or James Cameron did anything with this quality, they'd be lynched.

Look at how much crap Burton got for Planet of the Apes, which suffers primarily from not being a deep social commentary? :P

  • Well I think it will be kind of like the whole Independence Day thing where it will be a movie with good effects, good action sequences, someone with comic relief, but with a lot of cheesy acting, mostly under developed characters, and something that makes it super easy for the good guys. Balancing it out to be a typical one time summer blockbuster and nothing else.

  • You're overeacting. It's a movie. Remember in the early days of cinema, when a film was only 7 minutes long, people didn't care if there was story or not, it was there for thier amusement. Here TMPC, I have some homework for you. Watch Thomas Edison's "The Great Train Robbery", then watch Thomas Edison's own remake of it "The Little Train Robbery" and reply back to this comment about what you thought of both.

  • It's amazing you mention that! I'm currently writing an article about how we, the audience are "back to the beginning". Where 100 yrs ago we were fine watching people "leave work" or "feed the baby", no stories, just novelty of moving pictures....today...no stories or tired uninspired stories and we go for or only expect "effects". Sure it's enjoyable to watch, but is it a step forward or back?

  • back, or we simply are tired of movies and just want to see movement.

goodness its worse than i thought!

maybe video games have something to do with it? no im not talking down to them. its just that videogames can just be about fighting and shooting, is it possible ''we'' just want to see that? just a videogame on the big screen?

no emotion, no drama. no story no talking but just shooting and explosions for two hours?

i never looked at it like this before MPC.

  • Nah its just now that now people just want to do something simple and keep them occupied.

  • There's a saying that history repeats itself, maybe it's true with films nowadays. Maybe people have gotten their fill with movies with great storylines. I mean, it doesn't seem like films like Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, The Godfather, Gone with the Wind, and etc are film that will probably never be topped. So maybe, people just want to have films go back into the early simple days of films.

  • When films began, the camera was new. Now a days, the computer is a new way of showing the masses a story. So maybe the future of films may not be a 'moviepocolypse' but more of a recycle of how film started.

(Had to make 2 posts because I was over the limit).

  • It's a step back, we should be making history on some of its boundries to have future meaning, not make it repeat itself and start over this crap again because as a good movie lover I want there to be something more to it, if story books and reading are slowly dying away from the world, give it's new medium to motion picture, but make it good stories not cliche junk food that's been picked from the noses of big-pocketed money-stuffed pinheads in H-Wood that decide what we want and not listening.

  • This movie will be much darker than the first one and will have just as many dark elements and action as humor. And the Transformers will have much more lines, screentime, personality and character devolepment this time.

  • Besides, there has to be some humans in these movies for the sake of realism.

  • robocop cant be better

    but is gonna be interesting

  • Full marks for your analysis!

  • if people want more of a story, go read a book

  • I think people are just overreacting because they thought the first one was bad; I mean I sat through it and watched it, and I'm going to sit through the second and if they make it, the third one. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and mine is that ROTF is going to be better since Hasbro, the original creators of the Transformers toy line, is more involved with character designs and stuff like that.

  • The End, I'm not supposed to discuss.CRAP!!

  • I hope they make a good plot that has got to do with transformers mythology and a whole lot of action!!The Bay film has that and I hope they slow down the action scenes a bit.

  • the movie is going to be a lot darker and possibly explore the TF mythology more than the first one did AND will also amp up the action and awesome CGI. Or at least, that's what I'm hoping. If the plot is as soft as the first one but still has plenty of action then I'm ok with that.

  • ... take it all at face value. Even then, I found myself not really caring about Sam and wondering when the hell were the Autobots going to show up. And on the surface it was a good movie so I liked it. But did I end up watching it over and over again like Spiderman 2? Nah. But with this one, I have higher hopes (after all, with most movie franchises, the second installment is always the best). What I got from the trailers (not this one) was that...

  • i have to catch my breath.....i still tent to defend the TFs where ever i can. silly maybe. really when this time its just Bayformer$ 2. im not going to this one.

to anyone looking forward to it: enjoy yourself. to everyone else: well i guess there is always Terminator 4 or something, atleast that seems to tell the Terminator story.

moviepreviecritic i will watch any future reviews because i love good movies.

see you round 2011 for bayformer$3 the avenger strikes back.,

  • ''the original cartoon'' this the original cartoon that. its like there is nothing else. like we had that (wonderful) show and then nothing for 20 years. not true. there have been 13 animated shows so far. a number of comics series INCLUDING 2 from Marvel comics. and this movie? will be the fourth one baring the name ''Transformers''

    there is so much more.

this movie? why would i border with a sequel to an horrible movie?

movie watching is not a game.

''oh maybe i will not have...''

  • (2) .....to turn off my brain for this one''

and lets be honest folks, if you have to turn off your brain for a movie then its simple: the movie is very badly made. thats it. or you would not have to turn of your brain.

Starwars, Terminator and other action packed movies got me to watch and enjoy them because they had characters and an overall story that captured my imagination. all this movie ever did was made me wonder how incompentent these guys where. from the characters to the crew.

  • (3) and then there is off course the argument that its not the 80s anymore. bull what about the Dark Knight? it went back to Kane's original take on the Joker, written in the 30s-40s for Pete's sake.

and what about all the TF stories from the 90s-present?

i feel like i can re-use every argument i made back in 2007, but im not going to.

its a sequel. thats it. all i wonder about is how much it will make. because thats the only amazing thing Bay did: make 700 Million. maybe 500 this time?

  • dude the new transformers movies are for the next generation of transformers fans like me not for some 40 year old dude with nothing to do but rant on about how it was in the old days . dude if you dont like dont watch it its that simple

  • 40 year olds? LOL

i know TF fans of the original between the ages of 12-60.

next generation fans stuff is nonsense off course entertainment is always there for people INTRESTED in it. that has nothing to do with age.

peter Cullen was there to bring in the ''40 year old fans'' as you call them. as is the name ''Transformers''

  • For this movie, Transformers you dont need characterization or any of that kind of stuff. Transformers is about giant robots who change into cars and such, I didnt go into Transformers 1 thinking it would have intelligent characters and an unforgetable story. I wanted to see the Transformers transform. Ima see the 2nd one 4 the same reason.

  • why not both? why not mind blowing action, transformations and an unforgetable story all in one amazing movie? that will not just entertain you but alot more people?

  • It's actually movie-goers like you that'll bring the Moviepocaylpse.

  • ...and everything will be destroyed....

all worlds, all will become dust...and the dust shall become...nothing....

    :)

  • THE END OF REALITY ITSELFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD

"sending a message into space telling the Decepticons where Earth is."

    That's NEVER unfunny. *lol*

  • its like hiding with a giant arrow pointing at you. :)

''you don't see me because i don't see you''

ill bet nothing (sorry) that on B$2 there will be a scene where Prime tells Sammy that the Cons found Earth, and he then looks all innocent.

  • Wait..... are you trying to say that the Decepticons in the sequel don't know where Earth is until after Prime's signal is sent?

Maybe I missed something, but didn't they send some of their highest ranking Con's there in the first movie?

And didn't Starscream return to space?

Dontcha think they already know where it is?

(Regardless of opinion on the movie, that does seem like quite a daft assumption)

  • okay the story in these movie's have massive plot holes trying to make sense of it is completely pointless...but.

as i understand it the Cons where looking all over the universe for the Allspark, one group (Starscream) ended up on Earth. the Cons get defeated by the inhabitants of Earth and Starscream escapes (something Prime may not know)

then the Bots go into hiding...by sending a signal into space telling everyone where they are, Prime just assumes the Cons knows where Earth is.

  • The plot-holes in the movies are no bigger than any other Transformers series.

Starscream and his team were merely part of a small scout group.

In any case, given that he returned to the main Decepticon forces almost immediately after the final battle, I think it's safe to assume that Prime's message isn't the reason why they are here.

And honestly, I doubt that the Autobots would assume Starscream was dead with no body. In fact the comics confirm they know he's alive (as well as Barricade).

  • no franchise is perfect. but no TF story/series or anything before had so massive plotholes you had to read comic books to make sense of the mess. truly pathetic. comics writen by other writers no less.

when was it said in the movie Starscream was part of a team? he was the Decepticon supreme leader. hunting down the Allspark and Megatron his master.

seeing that the Autobots left the bodies to the humans i would not be surprised they dint know.

  • Actually I have come across plenty of TF comics that have had to explain things that aren't shown in the media. The movie franchise is not unique to this. (Although I might point out that the writers of the comic are working closely with the writers of the movie).

And yes, there have been bigger plotholes than those shown in the movie.

And yes, Starscream was the leader, but he was leading a small search team on Earth. It was only after finding Megs and the Allspark that they made a move.

  • explaining things like how things work (mass shifting) is just adding to the universe, also those comics where a universe of there own.

even if they work closely with the writers of the movie. its still expanded universe. it has to be explained in the movie for it to be truly canon.

the movie has so much plotholes that i cant even write them down here. hack could be my next video.

where in the movie does it say Starscream was the leader of a small group and not all of them?

  • The Star Wars movies have many spin-offs. Pretty much 80-90% of them are considered canon to the movies.

The live-action TF series is no different.

And I'm not talking explicitly about comics.

There have been plenty of untouched plotholes that are far bigger than anything seen in the movies.

And you're misunderstanding what I said about Starscream. He was the temporary leader of all Decepticons, but the group he was leading to Earth was a search group.

  • what i mean is that the movies should tell the plot. that not something to leave for comic books. it makes the movies look even worse.

1 or 2 or more plotholes dont ruin a movie, tv show comic books etc. but this is ridiculous. things just happen for no reason. just at random. i could trow them at you. but ive been down this road before. i explain all the plotholes and then wen the other person has no idea what to say i get the advise to ''turn my brain off''

    and just enjoy :(

  • I've heard pretty much every single complaint to do with the movie series. And whilst I don't agree with the 'turn your brain off' thing (since I never really do that), the number of valid complaints often seems to be outnumbered by mindless ranting.

  • good to hear that a ''bayformers'' fan isn't telling me to turn of my brain.

since most reviews are saying this its really refreshing!

about 50% of reviews says the movie is bad. another 50% says its good. yet a number of those point out everything wrong with the movie but still give it a high grand telling me to turn of my brain.

the number (50%-50%) i heard somewhere and isnt just me trowing around numbers to sound intresting.

to me the movie series crashed with the first one.

  • Dude. Just one thing with that reply.

    I'm not a 'Bayformers' fan.

I'm a fan of the series in general with Beast Wars as my favourite series (I don't really like the term 'Bayformers', seems a bit too demeaning).

On the other hand, what reviews are you talking about?

Most reviews I've heard of the movie have mostly leaned onto the positive side.

Personally the first movie was better than I expected it to be.

  • (1) bayformers is a term used to say what movie we are talking about. where i dont think highly of the movie it wasnt meant as demeaning to you. i did say 'bayformers' fan. as in you like the movie. 500 characters per comment and all.

what reviews? there are many. but to see what i mean watch ''your geek news'' (one of those its bad go watch it reviews) and off course the full commentary that moviepreviewcritic made, its 2 hours long but says it all.

  • Fair enough, but to me, 'Bayformers' feels the same as 'Geewunner' or any other fan coined term.

But like I said, the majority of reviews from fans and critics have leaned more on the positive side (even Roger Ebert liked it, which surprised me).

I've seen those two you mentioned and the impression I got from them was that the movie could've been better (which is true), not that it was terrible.

  • oh yeah ''geewunner'' made me laugh. really if you realise there are 13 shows.

but like i said it wasnt meant to insult you, you are welcome to your opinion and your enjoyment of these movies.

i do feel that most reviews ive seen or even people i talked to or dont like the movie, dont care about it. or thought it was okay.

the puzzling reviews are the ones that make every argument i (and others) made but then to tell us to ''turn of your brain'' which to me means its a bad movie.

  • (2) i do find it odd how a fan of Beastwars, a character driven show with a ever building plot, could say that bayformers is a good movie.

oh by the way coming back to the comics, i remember that Barricade died in the comic book version of the movie.

  • Why?

I love Beast Wars but even I can notice plot-holes and flaws within the series. Doesn't stop me from enjoying it.

    Same as the movie.

I hold the first movie in the same light as Tim Burton's Batman.

Both had directors not familiar with the franchise.

Both had plenty of changes to the plot.

Both were more focused on style over substance.

However, both were received more positively than negative.

It's true than some fans don't like it. But a good number also hold little quarrel over it.

  • well Megatron-II (aka BW Megatron) wanted Energon and to change history. he felt that the Autobots/Maximals saw his kind as second class. turning this villain in an freedom fighter/terrorist. brilliant.

bayformers Megatron wants an army to...to eeh...well he wants it.

Tim Burton told Batman's story and added things to it. brilliant.

Bayformers is an movie that does nothing original. unclear action. doesnt used the TF plot or characters.

i wish Burton did TF! :)

  • All Megatron's have generally wanted greater power, no matter any other ambitions.

Movie Megatron wanted the Allspark, as that would have allowed him to not only rule Cybertron, but also have an irreplaceble source of troops and energy.

'Tim Burton told Batman's story and added things to it. brilliant.'

I beg to differ. Many things were missing from the overall film. A good chunk of Batman's character was left out.

  • Megatron-I wanted power, but part of that was to save his race. very intresting. the show could have done a better job telling this . later comic series tell that better i feel.

to say that Megatron-II just wanted power is really talking down to the writers of beastwars that really tried to make him more than a ''GRR im Megatron AAAARG KILL DESTROY'' okay bay-Megatron dint say this but it was all his personality ever was.

Burton may have cut chunks but the essence was there. unlike bs

  • G1 Megs never wanted to save his race. The way I saw it he only wanted more energy to kill the Autobots.

Movie Megatron I find to be of a similar ordeal. Except that the first movie was merely the introductory stage and it seems the sequel might deal with it more.

'Burton may have cut chunks but the essence was there. unlike bs'

    How?

The basics of Transformers has always been good vs evil.

    Autobots vs Decepticons.

The movie doesn't change this any more than it has been before it was released.

  • on G1 the war was over Energy. Cybertron no longer had any and the race was about to die off. Prime goes to Earth to get energy and Megatron follows he realizes that Earth is a power source. he said many times how he wanted to repower Cybertron.

that a plot is dropped for the sequel is just bad writing. it doesn't make the first movie any better. this type of story telling works better on a tv show or comic book. not a movie.

the main plot of Batman was still there. you cant say of bs

  • 'he said many times how he wanted to repower Cybertron.'

Yes, but for his own gain.

    No different to the movie.

'that a plot is dropped for the sequel is just bad writing.'

    What plot?

'the main plot of Batman was still there. you cant say of bs'

    Yes, I can.

Batman= After losing his parents to crime, Bruce Wayne trains himself to perfection and becomes a masked crime fighter. CHECK.

TF= Two sides of sentient alien robots bring their war to Earth whilst battling over an energy source. CHECK.

  • 'Bayformers is an movie that does nothing original. unclear action. doesnt used the TF plot or characters.'

I'm sorry but you'd be wrong there.

It made a new backstory for the characters, newer designs and to say it doesn't use the plot (which one?) or characters is just ridicoulous.

'i wish Burton did TF! :)'

I don't. Because it's not his kind of film.

  • the backstory made the TFs look like any other sci-fi movie. the plot was based on Small Soldiers and the story is told like a Terminator movie. all what TF never was.

Bumblebee pies and is a giant. Optimus makes odd mistakes. Starscream is leader. very weak TFs, weaknesses, powers and abilities where also altered.

wich plot? in 2005 it was asked which one show will the movie be based? Armada? Energon? no they said non of the other shows we will go back to the roots and base it on G1.

  • 'the backstory made the TFs look like any other sci-fi movie.'

    I don't see how.

'the plot was based on Small Soldiers'

The only scene I found similar to Small Soldiers was the backyard scene.

'and the story is told like a Terminator movie.'

    How??

Terminator movies up t'ill now have all been basically time-travelling chase movies.

'Bumblebee pies and is a giant.'

I'll give you the first, but he is still depicted as the runt of the Autobots.

  • 'Optimus makes odd mistakes.'

G1 Prime was known for unorthodox plans as well.

    'Starscream is leader.'

Only until Megatron shows up. Not a very relevant complaint.

'very weak TFs, weaknesses, powers and abilities where also altered.'

Care to name a few specifically?

I wouldn't call them 'weak' at all though.

  • 'wich plot? in 2005 it was asked which one show will the movie be based? Armada? Energon? no they said non of the other shows we will go back to the roots and base it on G1.'

As I remember it they said they would base most of it on G1, with little elements here and there; for instance they specifically said Scorponok would be more like Beast Wars than G1(at least design-wise).

  • 'i remember that Barricade died in the comic book version of the movie.'

Yes. But comic adaptions often don't match what is presented in the movies themselves. They often leave out many parts of the plot or have things happen in a different way.

The writers however, confirmed his survival, which was later reaffirmed by the official IDW comics and he apparently even appears in the newest trailer somewhere.

  • he died when he and Bonechruser (i think cant really tell them apart) attack Optimus.

the comic book versions are ofter based on one version of the script. but Bay is a very chaotic filmmaker, changes so much that even Spielberg had no clue what was going on, and it shows: they FORGOT about Barricade...the writers killed him off. but this likely is one of the things cut at random by bay.

i still don't get how Megatron died, he wanted the power of the live giving Allspark, which kills him?

  • 'he died when he and Bonechruser (i think cant really tell them apart) attack Optimus. '

I'm sorry, but it seems an awful lot like you're trying to hate the movie here (Bonecrusher and Barricade are two wildly different characters, with entirely different colour schemes).

And no, the official story by the writers is that Barricade is alive. Bay may have screwed up here, but it wouldn't be the first time something like this happens (Blaster in the animated movie).

  • when Megatron is holding Jazz it looks like a Megatron with a long arm to me, that's not hate that's over complicated cgi.

two Cons died in the comics, in the movie Bony gets his head cut of and dies (creating a plot hole)

in an interview after the movie it is said that they forgot Barricade.

    Blaster? i dont get it.

  • The CGI was done very well. It could have used more wide shots which would have benefitted it better (and other material I've seen does do this).

'two Cons died in the comics, in the movie Bony gets his head cut of and dies (creating a plot hole)'

Say what? I don't get your point here.

And no, in the interview after the movie it is said Barricade was being left as a thread for the second movie.

As for Blaster. He appeared at the Autobot base, then vanished mid-way through the movie.

  • 'i still don't get how Megatron died, he wanted the power of the live giving Allspark, which kills him?'

The Allspark is an energy source.

Like any energy source, if you have it at the right setting it works fine. If you use it at a greater setting than it should be, you could blow the entire thing it's powering.

Or... attempting to resuscitate a patient using electricity.

Use the highest voltage, you'll kill them.

Get it right and you could save their life.

  • that wasnt said in the movie. (correct me if im wrong)

all the Allspark seems to do is create mindless robots out of nothing, that then kills humans.

the Allspark was a tiny cube. i would say if the thing had settings that was the lowest one.

but it went into Megatron's chest. why would a life giving holy object seek out one of its own creations and then kill it?

if it was such a massive power source where was the explosion showing the overload?!

  • 'that wasnt said in the movie. (correct me if im wrong)'

It was very clearly stated numerous times by both Humans and Ratchet that the Allspark was a source of energy.

And really, this isn't that hard to understand.

The Allspark gives life with small concentrated bursts of energy, but Megatron absorbed virtually all of it into his own spark with overloaded him.

He basically suffered the Cybertronian equivalent of a heart attack.

Do you really think a Michael Bay movie needs more explosions?

  • dont want to start this all again. but one point i want to add. you said that the basic TF story was still there. well i disagree off cource, i will not go into detail. but let me give you this example.

if i made a movie about a spider alien that came to Earth and merged with a human. both get spider powers and use that to save the world from the alien Venom who wants the Oscorb orb to create more spiders. well i can call that ''Spider-man'' but it really isnt about Spider-man.

  • Fine. But your example is completely off.

Transformers still has and always has had the same basic concept; two sides of (good and evil) shape-shifting alien robots at war with each other somehow end up on Earth and wage their war amongst us.

The movie (as much as you dislike it) still uses the same concept that has always been used.

The example you used about Spider-Man is completely irrelevant as the changes made to Transformers were only superficial by comparison.

  • ''two sides of (good and evil) shape-shifting alien robots at war with each other somehow end up on Earth and wage their war amongst us.''

    1) that was a side-note in the movie. 2) that could have been gobots. there needs to be more to make it a TF movie. so my example is completely relevant. 3) the movie plays more like a man versus machine movie. with other words Terminator.

imagine Sargent Clark Kent gets an alien injection to become Superman to fight Nazi's. its still a ''Superman'

  • '1) that was a side-note in the movie.'

    How?

It was the very basis (albeit more subtle) of the movie. Otherwise the prologue wouldn't have started as such.

'2) that could have been gobots.'

    But it wasn't was it?

'3) the movie plays more like a man versus machine movie. with other words Terminator.'

Yes, it has greater Human involvement. But really, if a bunch of giant robots started fighting on our planet I don't think the military would just sit back and watch.

  • (3)

'2) that could have been gobots.'

    But it wasn't was it?

that wasnt the point. you say that TF is about (in short) alien robots on Earth fighting a war. same story as Gobots. so it may as well have been a Gobots movie.

if i say ''movie set in space with space ships and space battles'' what movie am i talking about? its what makes the franchises different from each other that makes them stand out.

  • 'you say that TF is about (in short) alien robots on Earth fighting a war.'

And it is. Although you left out the 'shape-shifting' part.

'so it may as well have been a Gobots movie.'

Except that the characters, situations, scenarios etc. are all Transformers. Which makes it a moot point.

I've heard similar comments about Beast Wars, Animated etc.

'its what makes the franchises different from each other that makes them stand out.'

Which is why I said so in the first place.

  • "Let's not pretend that there is something bigger to this movie when it comes to themes and characters."

Yes, let's not pretend that. Why should we NOT, however, be upset that there ISN'T anything bigger than that?

  • 'imagine Sargent Clark Kent gets an alien injection to become Superman to fight Nazi's. its still a ''Superman''

No, it isn't. There ya go again.

The changes made to the movie have been relatively minor; no more than any changes made to past franchises.

  • (2) stealing plot points from Captain America. that is what Bayformers is. its everything but a TF movie with only the names that link it to that franchise.

still dont believe me? the T-1000 a Terminator dressed like a cop was looking for Connor. Barricade was a cop car looking for Sam. combined with the basic script of Small Soldiers. (including main hero cant defeat the villain and a boy needs to do it) creates an inspire less movie that has very little to nothing to do with the material.
