Which MSX2 computer would be worth getting? I want a basic 128K, FDD, 2 cartridge slot MSX2 with no frills. I also want whatever's the most common MSX2 model. So which one should I get?
Hmm, wherever you said kilobits, you meant kilobytes (kB)... It doesn't have "MS-BASIC" but "MSX-BASIC". This is the Sony HB-55 with 32kB of RAM. The last turboR is from 1992, not 1995.
If you need more info, contact me or check the Ultimate MSX FAQ.
Anyway, I'm a bit late with my reaction I suppose :P
The classic Hit Bit model, probably among the best of the first wave MSX machines. The European model had a SCART socket instead of the RCA's. Never knew about this red coloured one.
FYI: The MSX machines will accept and use any 9pin Atari D plug style controller with at least two independent fire buttons, ala SMS, MD and Atari 7800 pads :)
I had MSX Yamaha version, this machine was advertised as a musical machine like atari ST. I had every game possible on this machine, from disk drives, to cartridges. I had a great time witn MSX2 Yamaha version. the sound capability was amazing on this machine, did you know Hideo Kojima, the creators of metal Gear solid series his first game was pinguin adventure on MSX2? MSX was very popular in Middle Eastern countries, southeast Asia, and eastern Europe. I loved all of the Konami games on it
Wow great machine, I love the MSX myself. I have had mine since 1985 and it still runs beautifuly.. It's SVI (Spectra Video International) 728 MSX, .. I haven't played with it in ages though *sad* still I know it works.. The quality on these machines where outstanding...
Great video I am such a nostalgia buff myself so I absolutly adore all old computer games.. Given the hardware, I think that programmers where much more talented in the mid late 80's than they are today..
Wonder what the "Hit Bit" referred to?

In the Netherlands the Philips variants were pretty huge. I have MSX1 and MSX2 machines.

the Sony HB-F1 is probably the sexiest MSX variation I've found to date :)
it's quite impressive that Microsoft started with this "console" and are still in the market.
Said "console" because some call it a console and some call it a PC.

I've seen a red MSX with a built-in tape deck. I'm not sure which model, I think it's a Sanyo?
oldskoolrc 3 years ago
I know that Goldstar now known as LG did make a version with a buildt in tape deck

Ahh, Yeah, Gotcha. In that case, you're right about that, it would have been nice to have true enough.

Thanks man. Sony actually did make an MSX2 in bright red, I've seen them floating around.
lukemorse1 3 years ago
You might be thinking about the HB-F1 and HB-F1XD. Those models are Black/Red. I wishing for a MSX2/2+ that entirely red like yours.
AFX6502 3 years ago
Basically any controller using the atari pinout will work on the MSX, and the most buttons you'll need is two really.
That machine is in great condition. I especially love the red color. I wish they made their MSX2/2+ models in other solid colors than in black.
