i-shift available over here as well, but don't know of anyone using the voith yet, rumors are that some will start. my comment was just about engine brake only. d13 max hp until scr engines over here is 485. scr engine will have a max of 500, with 1750 ft lbs torque

volvo trans were offered in the 90's, but were not popular, so discontinued in this country. my co. is all volvo and the d12's very not good engines, low power, bad fuel econ. our new d13's better but havent had long enuff to evaluate yet. my cummins has much stronger engine brake than the d13, but is noisier. yes, volvo eng cannot be worked on everywhere, but getting better.

@berhorst59 Dont know if you get volvos I-shift gearboxes over there but i swear on my grandmothers grave that a D13-I-shift-voith compact retarder-jakebrake combo, will brake two times better than your cummins enginebrake... I have driven that combo 540HP for a year now and its all good with far better fuel econmy than the old D12. :)

I drove a Volvo with a Detroit Series 60 in it. All of the fluids had to be full or it not run. It would not even idle for a long period of time, unless I bumped up the rpms on the cruise control.

I have friends who have had Volvo engines in the uk and i am telling you they wont last as long as a Cummins and you can hammer it all day and it will take it..

someone help me out here- im in bc- lower mainland.. i want to get my class one. i LOVE driving, iv had a couple delivery jobs n really enjoyed them- not the most glamorous job to love i know but it appeals to me for whatever reason. ANYWAYS i see jobs in the paper for class 1 drivers but they all want atleast 1year experience. so how does someone go about getting that? iv had my class 5 for 8years.. 3-4 without a ticket. class 1 schools only give 2weeks training..what should i be doing?

my dads kenworth has about 15? 18? I can give you some examples. You got turbo boost, oil pressure, transmission temp, oil temp, water temp, air supply, applied air, and i think 1 even has a outside temperature gauge.

The big ones: Left is rev counter, right is speedometer.

The little ones: Top left is exhaust temperature, middle left is turbo boost pressure, bottom left is oil pressure, next to that is coolant temperature. Then, the other side of the screen is fuel level, next to that in the bottom right is rear air pressure and above that is front air pressure, top right is application air pressure.

i am from Sweden and whent to "Göteborg" (Where the Volvo´s are made..) on a demo day. Outside the democentre there was an Volvo made for the American market (something double the size a Swedish truck made for hauling half a Swedish load :D ) just for display. But as we looked closer to it we discovered that the axels weren´t Volvo!?! (it was some American brand) Why? I have never heard anything bad about Volvos axels so why put some American made axels on a Volvo when they make good axels?

He's climbing a hill... It does not look steep but it's hard to tell with a vid camera. Keep in mind that fully loaded the truck weighs 40 tons. I found myself going 25MPH up hills more than a few times.
