eye hooks is the best idea i've seen. i just wish there was a closer shot of how you bolted the eye hooks into the joists. i'm assuming you drilled holes through the joists for the bolts to hold the eye hooks
@sucracristo Thanks for that... yes I pre-drilled the pilot holes prior to twisting the eye hooks into the joists. It works very well for my applications. Good luck!
Brilliant. I never would have thought of attaching carabiners (spring clips) to those eye hooks. I already have a joist mounted chin up bar, but thanks to your carabiner and interchangeable handle idea my bar just got a whole lot more useful. Thanks a ton
Pretty smart. i like the eye hooks and carbiners. If your doing P90x what are your modifications? for instance wide, narrow or reverse. do you have three eyes across to vary the width? regardless i like it.
i saw it on the web (trainersplanet) and was wondering if it's worth buying.
it supposedly tells you everything about nutrition and dieting that no other books have, like all the stuff you really need to know (how to formulate diet plans for each individual to burn fat AND grow, etc).
a body building friend recommended it as a must read.
Hey! Just did my first P90X workout with your setup! Works Great!! Way better then the one in the door and much cheapear!! Hung it out on my patio for the perfect outdoor workout! and no waiting for stuff at the gym!
@velfarreclubber it looks like he has 1/2 gb 45degree bends, but if you get some plumbers steel pipe, you could easily pull them in a bench vice, just dont pull it to much or the pipe will kink, or even under a car tyre(do this at your own risk and its best to leave extra foot or so on the angled side, when using this method)
Excellent. I know where to find the eye hooks, but where can I find the cargo straps/suspension straps, the spring clips, the stirrup handles and the rowing attachment?
Let me just say that bolting the bar or the eye hooks to the floor joists in my house work fine for me. They easily support my weight (195lbs) and I've trained athletes on them that were 220 and 260lbs with no issues. Basic physics would recommend that you try to get them as close to a wall as possible while still having room to move. However, I cannot guarantee the home construction of everyone's house, so you'll have to be the judge there : )
@TodayFitness - thanks for the tip. This is a great info. I wanted to buy a flimsy pull up system but I wanted something specified to what we do. I am an MMA fighter and having something like this build in your gym is awesome. Great stuff.
Personally I'd feel a bit self conscious going to the park and doing all that. Also, isn't the point of this to show you how you can set up a good workout area in the comfort and convenience of your own home. I thought the video was excellent, and will be employing a lot of the tips in my own free-standing set when I eventually get it made.
@soccerkidd1195 if you buy one, you still have to hang it, which is actually most of the work and atleast if you build it yourself it should be built to suit its location, unlike store bought ones, were you have to find a place to suit that,
great advice! :)

How did you add the angle pieces on the side? I couldn't find a thing like that at home depot.

Why waste your time when you can go to a park down the block....

Sometimes a homemade chinup bar is the only option. How many people would go to a park and workout if its snowing, or raining outside?
