I was actually on a cruise whille this happened. It was AWeSomE. When you looked on a map you could see it. One day it REALLY bad so we actually had to change ports because it was heading straight for us.but it was still awesome!
@cwaezywabbit The lack of water on the lens in this video is actually the combination of several factors. Mostly I edited out portions of the video where water did get on the lens and/or I was wiping the lens off. But, I also had the camera in a professional rain cover that provides some protection. I also tried to postion myself in areas where the camera (and myself) were not directly exposed to the rain... and, for the most part, Igor didn't really produce that much rainfall.
@canechase Thanks so much, Brad!!! The highest officially recorded winds on the island were sustained at 74mph with a peak gust of 93mph at L.F. Wade International Airport... which was about two-miles east-northeast of my location. There was also another gust of 89mph reported, from a different location... so I estimate peak gusts at my location probably topped out right around 90mph too.
and for it's price range .. what do you think is the best HD 1080 recorder , or am i looking at it lol ( oh i wanna get one of these ) .. it would all work so lovely together with my Nikon D700.
@Barsopen1970 Thank you so much! I'm really glad you like the clips. All of my recent footage, from 2009 on, has been shot with the FX1000. Within the pro-sumer video market, my recommendation is definitely the FX1000. Specifically for the type of videography I do, a camera's performance in low-light is the key criteria I look for... and, in my opinion, Sony's models were better at reducing noise than the comparable Canon offerings. Of course the FX1000 has a slew of other amazing features too.
Awesome footage! Great atmosphere with big waves, especially in the evening. All stormchasers travel to a small island to chase a fish storm. Is that not crazy?
I guess this hurricane was very dangerous, because it had the right combination of strength and size. Good luck for chasing such a storm at landfall with your new camera.
@germanhypercane Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the footage. And yes, there were quite a few chasers on the island. Even though the 2010 hurricane season was one of the most active on record, there were very few chase opportunities, so even though the chances of a direct intercept on Bermuda were slim, many chasers opted to make the investment... especially since Igor was so large and some impact on the island seemed inevitable.
@MsBest450 Thanks so much... glad you enjoyed the video!!! And yes, Igor definitely sounded like it was going to be a bad storm, even before it formed.
@StormChaserMax Thanks so much, Max!!! Yeah, those huge waves were definitely the most amazing part of the chase. It would have been so cool if you could have joined us, especially on your birthday...lol. Hopefully we'll get to chase together again soon.
Michael what can I say, AMAZING composition! This video is a reference for chasers like me beginning to work on videos in HD quality. Thank you for all the help over the years. The colors look so vivid and the wave action was gigantic. We just need a storm like STY Megi to document cat-5 intensity in HD!
@huracanado1 Thank you so much, Jose! I'm really glad you enjoyed the clip. I'm sure one of these days we'll be in a storm like Megi... can't wait till then!
@LDCTSTORMCHASER Thank you so much, Greg!!! The video quality this camera produces is definitely worth the investment! Can't wait till we're in a really big one.
@ReiMomo To be a successful and safe storm chaser, my recommendation would be to learn as much as you can about meteorology, especially the types of storms you would be chasing. And before chasing on your own, it's always a good idea to partner up with an experienced chaser first. It's also good to learn the basics of photography and become proficient at using whatever equipment you have... in the end, it'll pay off with better shots. Hope this helps.
Awesome video, Michael! .. finally enjoy a hurricane in this magnificent camcorder .. Igor retained enough strength as I could see .. Very careful!, a good wave and disappear these stormchasers the bridge. Thanks for the link! :D
Absolutely awesome footage you got of this storm. Bermuda is definetly in "Hurricane Alley". Seems like they get a tropical storm or hurricane every year.
@Torn80cj Thank you so much!!! Bermuda definitely gets their share of close calls and a few direct strikes... so I'll definitely be back the next time there's a decent chase opportunity.
Awesome, awesome and MORE awesome!!! that was fantastic Michael! I love the shot of all the guys out on that dock while the winds were howling. Great stuff!
@tornadovideostock Thanks so much, Scott!!! Glad you liked the clip. Yeah... I was the only one who decided to stay semi-dry and not go out of the dock... but it gave me the chance to film all of them having fun...lol.
Beautiful Place! Everything about the storm surge and waves in this video is really neat to see! The power of the winds through the palm trees is my favorite of Hurricane footage, and you did magnificent filming of this storm! Just incredible Michael! I think the best footage that I have seen of Hurricane Igor! Great job!!!
@VideographyOfStorms Thank you so much, Nathan! I'm really glad you enjoyed the clip. Bermuda is an absolutely beautiful island... so it was easy to find lot's of great shots. Thanks again!
sorry but can you tell me the information about the Hurricane like wind speed and your location in the storm ! :) and I am waiting fore your next clip thxxx so match
@MrShanfara Sure... all the details about Igor's impact on Bermuda, including the peak winds and minimum pressures recorded are actually in the description for this video... just click on the down arrow next to the beginning of the description. At my location, I estimate peak winds were sustained right around 75 mph with peak gusts near 90 mph. I also recorded a minimum pressure of 965.7mb when the hurricane was at its closest point to the island.
@MrShanfara No problem at all! At its closest point, Igor was about 40 miles (65 KM) west of Bermuda... with a central pressure of 955 mb, which would normally support a much stronger system. But, since Igor had a very large and fairly shallow pressure gradient at that point, it was only supporting sustained winds around 75mph... so it was actually a minimal hurricane when it impacted the island. That said, the duration of strong winds was very long... about 36 hours!
@vmax135 For me, the wind speed of 75 miles per hour here in Egypt is so strong that it leads to disaster as a result of the desert sands, but as I see in the video that the wind is very strong and high waves with a large that the demolition of the firewall on the beach
It's good that the hurricane passed without significant loss of property
@MrShanfara Thank you so much! Glad you liked the clip. I'm also planing to upload a time lapse of Igor from Bermuda over the next couple of days... so look for that.
