When using the vacuum hose-- is there some type of cover on the part of the vacuum hose that's still attached to the vacuum. Hence, if I'm using the hose, I dont want dirt etc. to be coming out of the hose.

No actually it doesn't work like a dyson. Dysons don't clog. I've fix 2 of these eurekas at the store I work at already. They are horrible.
