He moved to Kingston, Ontario. Became a very successful businessman, especially in real estate. Was known for his tremendous generosity especially to the local Jewish community where just before he passed away was starting to get more involved with. His sudden and unexpected death was a real loss to Kingston.
I love Zally. As a fellow guitar player, I can't get over the little things he did on the guitar all throughout his time with the Spoonful. They were like tiny ingredients to a wonderful musical recipe. Check out his playing on "You Didn't Have To Be So Nice" and see what I mean. There's a guitar throughout that I used to think was an electric piano. Nope, it's Zal. What an ear! RIP my good man. You were very underrated and the BEST!
Thanks so much for posting this. It's a very touching and very joyful.
That shot at about 3:56 of those three women grooving to Magic is brilliant-look at the woman in the middle pumping the air. . Just an outpouring of spontaneous joy.
Those tunes of the Spoonful were built to last. God, here we are over 40 years later and they still sound gr eat.
So, Yanovsky had been out of music so long. Does anyone know if he's returned to music at all in the years since this awards show?
Two great talents. Saw Sebastian solo shortly after leaving the Lovin Spoonful. Great performer, harmonica player, and songwriter. The combined energy of Zal and John was unbeatable. It is such a shame that John's throat condition prevents him from singing many of his most wonderful songs.
