  • You are doing a good job here.

  • on every comparison such as this. the zune screen always owns the ipod.

  • zune screen is 2 times bigger trust me zune is better i have owned both and zune wins

  • ZUNE IS BETTER!

  • ohh ya and 160gb that's 40 thousand songs w0000000t

  • ohh ya till stupid apple quit making them. 120GB or less, suck it fanboy

  • im sick of this talk of "fanboys"...

we all come to like products, especially when we buy them, as annoying as it might be(?). but calling apple stupid and then calling him a fanboy hardly makes a point. are you not a microsoft fanboy?

  • I think it's stupid that apple discontinued a 160GB iPod in favour of a 120GB model. Seems like a step back to me. I called him a fanboy because he is yelling irrelevant facts about apple's discontinued product.

  • ahh

  • i agrreeeeee ipod classic all day awesome batrey life man i chose it over a touch if gonna buy a i pod for the internet buy a laptop

that's just me though colemyster out!

  • ya cause, you know, laptops are just as cheap and portable as an iPod touch. Zune has a bigger screeen and the same battery life, you ignorant fanboys really piss me off.

  • CLASSIC ALL DAY BITCHES

  • ipod touch.......... same friggen screen and everything and better quality

  • But a lot less space. And by a lot, I mean 72 GB less space. For the same price? I'll choose the latter.

  • if u make a video u can upload it straight to your zune plain and simple ZUNE is ten time better then the IPOD

  • thank you! this was exactly what i needed! can u put your own movies on a zune or do u have to buy them from Zune marketplace?

  • any MPEG4, h.264 or WMV file will work.

  • what are those lol i'm not a techie at all. i mean like from a store-bought dvd to my zune.

  • technically it's illegal to rip a DVD onto your computer. There's protection against it, but you can get software to do it. It's easier to download the movies in zune format. It's equally legal to ripping the DVD itself as long as you own it.

  • also, I'm not sure if they sell movies in the marketplace because it hasn't launched in Canada yet.

  • yeah sure you can, its not hard at all. simply insert the disk into your computer.(go to google and get some sort of a DVD decrypter) open the program you got. then select the dvd to open in that program. should be able to find tutorials here on youtube to show you how.

  • Can someone tell me which of these players has a better online store for movies/tv shows/video podcasts? I dont have as much music as most people (around 500 songs at the moment) so im mostly going to use it for anything video related.

  • I live in Canada so the Marketplace isn't availible here yet, but in the United States you can subscribe to Zune Pass for $15/month for unlimited music downloads. Apple offers more TV than Zune, but Zune Marketplace is adding more and more TV shows. Zune has LOTS of great video podcasts, so does Apple, they're cross-compatible. Neutral.

  • Cross compatible as in a movie i download from Itunes will work on zune? Well yea i agree, i bet zune marketplace will add more movies and tv as time goes on. So now its just between which player is better for viewing videos and i think we all know which that is :D

  • No, the movies and music won't (ask if you want a DRM-remover for apple protected music though, then you can add it to Zune) but podcasts can be subscribed to from either Zune or iTunes, regardless to whether or not they're in the software's marketplaces.

  • i tunes all the way!!! zune marketplace has vewery few videos making it ironic for a huge screen i owned a 120gb ipod and zune and i think videos are better on ipod b/c the zune has very little pixels so when its zommed into people the quality is bad and so is the battery

  • both are good in their own ways, they both have pros and cons, pro ipod classic 160 gbs that means lot of movies and shows, con tiny screen, zune pro huge screen, con 3 hours video, 30 hours audio, pro iTunes has 30 million some songs and artists, con RMD which means you can only use it on ipod, zune marketplace has no RMDs, con only 8 million songs, me I like the zune for radio, and big screen, you can change the battery on either for a worn out battery or extra life, but I have an 80 classic :(

  • whatever i prefer pod

  • you changed the bightness you liar!!!!!!

  • You're an idiot. If I changed the brightness on the video, both screens would be affected. If I changed the brightness on the iPod during the video for all to see, which I did, it was only to compensate for how washed out and crappy it was looking.

  • ipod is ZUNES bitch!!!

  • ZUNE!!!!!

  • This just shows that the iPod classic has brighter screen. Notice when the camera focuses on the iPod classic, the contrast is just as good. And BTW, if you compare iPods and Zunes Screen to a (good) monitor, you will see that iPods Screen colors are the same as on the monitor, but the Zunes screen has a bluish tone to it.

  • just tell me what you opinion is on my comment so we can end this

  • zune better colour nioce...

  • HAHA, your British. I can tell cause you spelled "color" wrong in America anyway.

  • uhh, Canadians spell colour too. Americans are the only ones in the english language idiot enough to spell it wrong.

    Colour

    Flavour

    Favourite

  • Don't call us idiots for making revisions to a language that already sucked!

  • if it sucks so much, don't speak it. ;)

  • Hey I'm just saying, it's simpler: in my (definitive) opinion, to spell it "color" as apposed to "colOUr".

  • Yup, Americans always go for a loosely revised, simple route. The language is great, minor changes like taking out a U is ridiculous. If you're stupid enough to think that theres a significant difference in simplicity between Color and Colour, you're not worthy of reading and writing... or you're American.

  • Okay, that's bordering on offensive. Settle down your pen and say something sensible next time.

  • It was meant to be offensive. In simplicity, having or removing a U in words like colour&color is so insignificant that you shouldn't have commented on it in the first place. How was that not sensible the first time I *typed* it?

  • (Answered in order) Okay... ; Maybe I was just bored and YOU'RE the idiot for REPLYING to my "insignificant" comment. ; Because it made almost no sense and was generally retarded. Goodbye, I'm done talking about the word "COLOR" (not "colour" BTW, Fire Fox doesn't recognize that as a word.) >:p

  • oh my god. you're so damn pretentious

  • ipod is nice but is clunky, just make a 160 GB zune

  • lol clunky. Wow, a windows fan calling an apple product clunky. haha

  • hey I've got an 80 gig ipod classic but the zune's screen look's more crisp and is bigger , besides I hate windows I just use it because the computer is cheap

  • Regardless, you still called an Apple product Clunky compared to a Microsoft product.

  • I couldn't find the right word at he time so thats what I called it, what I ment was the zune is more crisp and nicer looking than an ipod classic, you can't say I wrong other wise you must be blind or somthing

  • Even though that comment made nearly no sense towards the end, realize I was pointing out what you typed. Failure on your part to realize that thats all I have to work with displays your ignorance to the fullest.

  • just tell me what you opinion is on my comment so we can end this

  • End it? lol, it was over before it started. By this point, this is just fun to me.

  • then let's start it, tell me your opinion about both ipod classic and zune

  • How about no.

  • fine I thought you were having fun, but fine. zune rocks and you can say what ever you want about the zune, the ipod classic sucks I would know I have one

  • I agree it's not a fair comparison, but Microsoft fanboys, if you want to counter-attack by pointing out the price difference, don't bother. Have you seen the sales? iPod sales beat Zune's by a landslide. iPod is already popular, it's going to take more than your thrash-talking for Zunes to beat iPod.

Oh, and ToyFlameThrower, iPod shuffle costs $200? Why not stop by at Apple's website and check the price? ;D

  • What are you talking about there IS no price difference. An 80GB iPod classic costs $250 and an 80GB Zune costs $250. It's a perfectly fair comparison as they both have the same storage space, and they're the same price. The iPod classic is the most compared to Zune because they are the most direct competing products. Go look up on google "Zune compared to iPod" you'll get comparisons against the classic.

  • dude a camera wont show the difference its going to screw up the quality

  • I thought of that, but I decided that if it was going to screw up the quality it would screw it up equally, as the same camera settings apply to the entire image, and not just a certain part.

  • hahahaah you can see the huge difference even in this bad video, zune has an small LCD screen screen if you guys don't know.

  • you do know that the Zune is on the RIGHT, right?

  • Yes i know duh!!! is just that most commonly LCD screens are bigger, mp3 players go for cheaper VGA screens but not Zune, they have small LCD. That why i love my zune.

  • ya u have some isues the zune is on the right of video ipod screens arent that big........

  • god you are really stupid, you are the second person that tells me the same thing!!! read all the recent comments first. Look 3 comments down dumb ass.

  • Okay seriously?....Its really the Zune BY ALOT! ;p

  • Wow, the zune looks a lot better. I think it's mostly the contrast and colors. Plus the extra size.

  • how did u get the movie on to your zune

  • 5. How is the interface? Do you like it? I currently have a player that allows you to immediately go to menu with a menu button. For the Zune, would you have to go backwards through all of the specifications? I have a lot a questions. I am really conflicted between getting the Ipod or Zune. Ipod is very popular and trusted. The Zune is still improving. Is it worth getting the Zune? Thanks for looking at my post. I hope that you'll answer my questions.

(I had to split up this post in two, sorry.)

  • I love the interface. It's easy to use and very quick. If you are in a menu finding a song or something like that and leave it for 10 seconds, it will go back to the now playing screen. If you hit the back button, it goes right back to where you were. To get back to the main menu you do not have to flip through all the subcategories. All you have to do is hold the back button for about a second and it goes all the way back to the main menu.

  • As a final comment about the interface, everyone that sees my Zune loves it and anyone can just pick it up and learn the interface in a matter of seconds. The only problem I have in showing people how to use the Zune is that they move their finger in CIRCLES on the pad!

  • Exactly. I have yet to find a single person who likes the ipod interface more after using the zune. Even ipod owners... It's simple and fun.

  • Thanks for replying. This helps a lot in my decision.

  • ?? I assume you're talking about my comments... If you've read my comments, you'd see I am simply asking to know more about the Zune. I can't decide between getting the Zune or Ipod. How am I "proven wrong with every single point you've made"? I'm not trying to make points against the Zune. I just wanted to ask someone with an actual Zune how it works and whether they like it. I'm not for or against the Zune or Ipod. Just trying to be an informed buyer in the electronic market...

  • Oh wait, my bad.. idk what I was thinking. I got mixed up between a few video's... But I hope computerdude28's comments helped with your decision. :D

  • Since you personally have a Zune:

    1. Do you notice a difference in image quality because of less dpi? I really like the screen, but am worried about the video quality being less. For example, Youtube videos would look the same, etc.?

    2. How is the battery? I've heard the battery doesn't last as long as the Classic.

    3. It must be kind of inconvenient not having a clock.

    4. How important is the Zune software? Most of the time, I'd use Windows media player to sync.

  • 1. Video looks amazing on the Zune screen. If you look REALLY closely, maybe you can tell a little bit of a difference in DPI between the Zune and classic, but it's otherwise unnoticeable.

    2. The battery is rated at less than the classic, but I have no problem with battery. I've never had the battery die before I got home, and I charge it every night. Regular daily use ~30min - 1hr of video and 5 hours of music.

  • 3. I wear my watch 24/7 and therefore I think it would be more inconvenient to pull out an MP3 player to check the time, but if you don't have a watch, yes.

    4. The Zune software is actually the only way to get music on the device without hacks, but I wouldn't use Windows Media Player if I could. I love the Zune software. It's really easy to use, and you don't have to worry about duplicates like with iTunes. Download it free from Zune[dot]net and try it out yourself!

  • I've heard only particular content can be on the Zune (lilke things only from its music store). Does this means you can't put your own music or videos on it? Thanks.

  • I only have 2 music video from the Zune Marketplace. MP3s downloaded (legally) from anywhere work as long as they don't have DRM. Any MPEG-4 and WMV files work fine. I have a few hundred songs on my Zune from ripped CDs, and a few ripped movies too. It all works fine.

  • I am sold on the Zune due to a visit to Best Buy. Woot!

  • Again, I'm personally struggling with the choice between a Zune or iPod. I know that the iPod treats video on it like it does music, as a secure, stable feature. Does the Zune treat video the same way, or as a thrown on feature to compete with the iPod?

  • I find video just as solid and perfect as music on the Zune. You can read the description for each video before you play it (good for movies and TV shows recorded), and they each have a thumbnail just as the iPod. Look at my TV out video to see what the interface looks like under videos.

  • And is the Zune a dedicated video player like the iPod? Or is it just thrown on there to compete?

  • What are you trying to say? Neither are "Dedicated" video players. They are called PMPs or portable media players. Both of them.

  • Really? Because at Best Buy, their newer generation Zunes only have "All Videos" and "Music Videos". How do you get "Movies" and "TV Shows" as tabs?

    Thanks. :)

(Also, what is a better media player in general? You have no idea how much I have been debating with myself about whether I should be the Zune 80 or the iPod Classic 160GB. I know that I want a player that will last a long time, that's for sure.)

  • I love my Zune 80. Music videos show up in the Music Video category when they have been bought from the Zune Marketplace. TV Shows and Movies show up when your computer records TV (with a TV Tuner card) in Windows Media Center. There is also a program to tag WMV files as any of these 3 categories so that they will show up there on the Zune.

  • This is a great vid, thanks for posting.

One thing the iPod has over the Zune, though, is video organization.

  • How do you figure that? The Zune organizes videos in "All Videos" "Music Videos" "Movies" and "TV Shows". They're in tabs at the top the same way "Artists" and "Songs" are under music.

  • I dont understand why everyone is attacking him! Even cnet and pc world has said the the zune screen has more color! The zune screen ahs 21 million colors and the ipod classics screen has 17 million colors!

  • imagine your product constantly being compared to the old style (classic) version of another companies product. That must suck.

  • I don't think someone with the username uneducated should be commenting on videos. Way to live up to your username!

Ok ok aside from that, how is this not a fair comparison? They are the same price, have same storage, the same display resolution, and they are BOTH still for sale and therefore up-to-date.

  • computerdude28 - You start your reply with an unprovoked attack on the uneducted. Even I'm not dumb enough to do that. Anyway - again - Imagine your cuttling edge product constantly being compared to the old version (classic - well over half a decade old platform) of a competitors product. 'BOTH' are still for sale -yes- and there is a reason one of them is called the CLASSIC! . You can't be more than 13yrs old 14 at the most. Lock step school system drone. Don't "F" with the UNEDUCTED!!

  • ok so I don't think you're seeing something here, you are saying "UNEDUCTED" but your username says "uneducated" I think you should have a close look at a slight difference in spelling. Anyway, google "ipod zune comparison" and go to the zunescene[dot]com site they have a whole chart and it's comparing to the iPod classic. The Zune is not meant to compete with the touch. The classic is the closest in features and hardware to the Zune, and that is why it is the classic that is being compared.

  • Here, look at the video that this video is responding to. The man clearly explains that the Zune 80 is meant to compete with the Classic.

  • If you don't get uneducated spelled wrong - UNEDUCTED - I don't know what to say. Think hard - uneducated spelled wrong - come on, think. I give up. Have fun in school -- Book Smart!

  • ya your right.....something is not quite right about the ipod......Its about time people realize is this, and face the fact that ipod is the cheapest and lowest quality mp3 player on the market.

  • dustychalkmud It is a fair comparison and all you fanboys need to face that!!! Zune pwn's ipod!

  • There's something not quite right here. The iPod looks washed out and then it doesn't and then it does and then it doesn't. That tells me that you've probably got a Brightness setting on the iPod that's not ideal for watching a video in pitch darkness and it's confusing your camera. I've never had any trouble with the display on my Classic so I think you need to look at some settings before you do a like-for-like comparison.

  • Both displays are on 100% brightness, and as you can see, later in the video I turn down the brightness on the iPod because it was looking like that.

  • Fair enough, I admit I stopped watching after a while so my bad.

  • 100 brightness, are you kidding me?

I have a z80 and my brother a 80gb classic, and the default is 50, which you should leave it at.

clearly, either you fucked up or made it so the zune would look better because the zune uses a 64k screen while the ipod a 262k color screen

  • Zune brightness on high, iPod on 100%. Fair, no? The iPod doesn't look that bad, but it was brighter. That's why I zoomed in on the camera, so it would adjust to te brightness. I'd like to know where you're getting this 64 and 262 bullshit.

  • He totally cheated

  • exactly aND its the camera!

  • The reason the iPod screen looks so bright and washed out is because the Zune screen is so much bigger, the camera sets the brightness by this standard. I try to compensate for this in the video by zooming into the iPod screen.

  • Thanks for the video man !!

  • allright forget my post below, but can you turn on the lamp so we can really see the player that running the movie. Just to be sure, because in the dark we cant really see, if on the left is really ipod classic or ipod video or some crappy mp3 player, btw I believe the right one is zune

  • I swear the one on the left is an iPod classic. I'll bet my Zune on it! ;)

  • now the real problem is I'm at Indonesia here and I can't find Zune anywhere, only ipod, ipod and ipod, since Microsof don't have branch here. Heeelp anybody can help??? Lol

  • yeah, travel to USA like i did and buy one, or buy by internet, or something

  • Buy it on EBay! I swear they won't scam you as i have boughten like 100 items including my zune. and i have never got scammed! Just make sure you have paypal!

  • Okay then, thanks I'll try it. I never buy anything online before. Guess this will be my first experience. Anything for ZUNE, lol.

  • seriously it's safe. Just make sure the sellers feedback is more than 98.5% positive-to be safe, and make sure you add the shipping to the bid to get the total Price- sometimes the shipping is crazy! But Most likely you'll get a good deal including shipping!

  • and you have to put a video of the tv out, in the zune it rock's!

  • That's a good idea. I'll do that!

  • wow ipod screen sucks, thank you for the comparison. Now I guess ill go for zune

  • ZUNE PWN'S IPOD!

  • yeah ive done that comparison too with my ipod classic and zune 80 and that's the diffrence. the zune is brighter and clearer and bigger screen. i luv zune, but they kill it with the no games. still zune is great!

  • The games are coming, check my channel xna games. thanks for this video nothing beats side to side comparison,i love my z80.

  • Great video- it's awesome that there are gonna be games on the zune!!! Do you know around what time they are going to be released? Those look like some awesome games!

  • haven't you heard. they are making games for zune and the are great, but they arent out yet.

just youtube it. search fot zune games, or zune xna

  • wow iam assuming the zune display is on the right side it looks alot better
