It never used to matter what a musician "looked" like. You listened to the music. It was only icing on the cake if (when you saw them in concert) they had good looks on top of stunning talent. So sad that the music is diminished by criticism of surface appearance...............Shallowness created by a video world where looks trump talent now.
How about you and "@thewalrus999" just STFU and enjoy the band. Guys like you two make me sick.....people get old. Things change in life....get over yourselves.
and YET imagine.there are legions of devoted worshipers(blind as WELL as deaf) that believe deep conviction that Rush is the greatest band in the world AND of all time ( and these are actual QUOTES).LOL.IMAGINE?beyond belief! That Geddy the Tucan has the greatest voice in music and that peart is( and i quote) the greatest drummer in the world and a "god"!LOL!NO
exagerations here! And think that REAL bands like YES,GENESIS,PFM etc are NO comparison to this boring"all girl trio"that is so LAME.
What's with all the Benoit bashing? We all agree he's not as good as Jon. Would you rather Yes not play anymore for lack of a vocalist? Yes has given me more than my share of pleasure in my lifetime. My hope for them is that they find happiness , acceptance, and appreciation with whatever they pursue. Oh, and Alan White Rocks!
These guys look terrible, but if you close your eyes and just listen it doesn't really sound that different than it did 15-20 years. They sure can still play.
If feels as if your traveling through space and finally reaching that place promised by God. It's also fantastic to see all the emotion generated in everyone from this song.
What I find funny about the detractors of Benoit David is what this clip completely points out. There is singing for 1:45 seconds of this song, the rest of it is instrumental ONLY. Tell me oh folks who worship at the altar of Jon, what would he have done to make this better? Believe it or not, there are a lot of people out there who find Yes music to be more about the music instruments than the singing. The singing is secondary to the brilliance of the composition.
@Triewer I agree. the music is brilliant. Been a fan for over 30 years, but Jon is an integral part of the Yes experience. His voice IS another instrument. Not to mention the fact that he had a vital compositional role in most of the music. I admire Benoit for taking on the challenge and he does a fine job, but Jon Anderson is a uniquely gifted artist and it's just not the same without him. Must admit though "Drama" was a killer album :)
@keyboardkomuso Agree for the most part, especially about Drama. Have you seen or heard Benoit do the Drama stuff? I can picture that's probably how John would sound doing those.
I was there. Being 15 and having the privilege of seeing a Yes concert is an honour for me. Even though I didn't get the chance to see Jon up on stage with the band, it was a great experience.
I think he does a great job, never the same, but he carries a consistent performance. Just by Listening to the "speak to me of summer...." you can tell he's good.
Yes is an embarrassment with this "poser singer" who couldn't compose if his life depended on it.......he is a mockery dancing around singing this amazing song. Yes without Jon Anderson is not Yes!
i agree. seen them in atlantic city a few weeks ago. show sucked. goes to show you they aint shit without anderson. i mean look they arent even playin big places. steve howe is still the man though
are you listening? i've never heard any bass player make the richenbacher and taurus sound so incredible..the master, one of the greatest of all time..keep eating sir squire....ill continue to listen and learn...
I just saw then a week ago in Copenhagen and they were GREAT. Benoit carried the spirit as much as a man could who isn't the original singer... I was so glad to experience Howe/Squire and those amazing compositions executed so well. Well worth the ticket.
Great Video. Been a Yes fan for 35+ years. Wish I could go back to the early days but we can't.Things change so enjoy what we have.Steve Howe is scary good. I miss Rick, and Jon but we all do. Not sure about those stretch pants on Chris though....had a hard time looking away !!!
I think their replacement is too good. This may be the best replacement I have ever seen for a band. He's even more authentic sounding than Arnel Pineda the new Journey singer. It's hard to see them bringing back Jon Anderson now, why would they? Maybe out of loyalty, but sound wise the younger guy sounds fresher, clearer voice, he breaths new life into Yes!
All the notes are there. Sounds just like Yes. Why isn't my heart soaring? Magic is a delicate thing. You can't goose the golden goose and expect it to keep laying.
he scuttlebutt is that Anderson is also off the 2010 tour, thanks to a Squire decision. Fine, I'll pay for the Anderson solo show, and avoid seeing this. The Wakeman guy, good as his chops are, sounds too much like Pat Moraz for my taste...
You all just need to shut your pieholes. No need to be nasty for christ's sake. I think the singer is doing well...but nobody can replace Jon. Period.
I think Howe checking his watch was a joke between him & one of the other guys........you cant dis him for doing that!!!!!!!!! Totally Agree with the Squire comments, ditch the gear & the belly.......still going to see them in Edinburgh in November cannot wait!!!!!
Chris, among all of them, seemed most unsuccessful in shaping up for the 35th anniversary tour and here in 2009 he's still a porker. Could've done just a LITTLEbeffort on that score, IMHO.
You have to cut Steve Howe slack for looking at his watch. This venue is extremely strict on tme and everything else. He worked that night, double bill opening with Asia and was still bouncing at the end of this which is the end of the night. The new kids weren't as disappointing as Squire. He let me down and I'm not just talking his weight.
Nobody mentioned that Squire needs to get rid of that shite singer tho' and bring Jon back. I'd rather see Chris baby naked than go and see this 20% band!
Someone else mentioned that Squire needs to get rid of those medival tights. Its not working for him. He was so skinny in the '70s. I never thought he would end up being so heavy. Still a great bass player though (and the best).
Thanks for the tip. I'm taking my 11 year old daughter to see them In Edinburgh. I'll tell her to concentrate on Steve for this one, and not to look at any wobbly bits.
I think that for many of us, this was the high point of the night--or of Yes's performance, at least. It was right up there with Heart of the Sunrise, Machine Messiah, and Astral Traveller. Benoit David has come so far since he first started filling it for Jon--a real showman who has great singing chops & shows great respect for Yessongs. Fantastic evening!
@ctask633 LOL - Steve Howe wasn't checking any watch at 2:54. He was just adjusting his sleeve. Nobody could check a watch in less than a second in the dark with flashing lights.

Squire is out of shape in this video, he's grotesque looking, but he's still got chops. There isn't a better prog rock bassist alive.
