Your talk of the Internet being clamped down, I don't think U.S. citizens would ever, ever allow that to happen. We would protest endlessly unless it was open again. Many would protest violently no doubt and to no end. The people responsible for closing down the Internet could be in danger.
I simply don't think it would happen, and if it would, people would do whatever needs to be done to stop it.

Having people being monitored about what they download, ISPs having to taddle tail on their customers, it's all screwed up.
For the internet to be totally free of piracy; groups not being able to make any form of peer-to-peer file sharing protocols work, it would only happen if the Internet was very restricted and I don't think it would not effect other parts of the Internet too.

@victormusictechnique A lot of people use magnet links just because it lessens the burden of bittorrent sites because the torrent file is downloaded by other users (p-2-p) instead from the server. That's why piratebay will eventually only use that. Makes sense
