I'm enlisting in 1 year and getting in the DEP where i get sent to bootcamp in 2012. I'm joining with the 11x option 40 contract to be a Ranger. I decided ALL BY MYSELF. Never talked to a recruiter before, ever. Not while deciding on what to do so what do you say to that? It's not always the recruiters fault, not all lie.

It could merely be that they don't believe it's right to be recruiting people at this moment because it will likely lead to their involvement in an illegal war.

soakchips- Every person that enlists in the military is given a piece of paper that spells out all of their obligations... it's called their contract, trust me I'm a vet and I was smart enough to look over mine and took it upon myself to ask questions. So if someone chooses not to read it that's their fault when their military career doesn't go the way they expected it to, not the military's.
well, whoever recruits somebody has a duty to make sure that new soldier fully understands the contract he or she is signing.. especially that clause where they own you for 9 years.

A kid walking into a recruiters office during a time of war need to understand that the possibility of deployment to that war zone are pretty high. I did my research before going to a recruiter as im sure you did as well, We both KNEW we would go to Iraq or anywhere near there. So why cant other kids do the same? If a recruiter says that you wont go into a combat zone, just leave the office, they cant force you to sign.

We, the USA, are the aggressors, we are the ones invading and occupying not just Iraq but many other places too. We have military bases in over 150 countries right now. That doesn't sound like protecting the states to me, that sounds like a military and economic EMPIRE!

thats true, my recruiter is originally combat engineering MOS. He's a great guy, he never lied, he tells it straight, and he tells me the risks of being a soldier on active duty. Im gonna be a paralegal specialist soon and an OCS candidate in two years to be a Military Intelligence Officer.

Never talked to a recruiter before, ever. Not while deciding on what to do so what do you say to that? It's not always the recruiters fault, not all lie.

The people saying 'military recruiters get out,' could be doing that for a number of reasons, none of which necassarily entail a dislike for individual troops or even the military as an institution. It could merely be that they don't believe it's right to be recruiting people at this moment because it will likely lead to their involvement in an illegal war.

soakchips- Every person that enlists in the military is given a piece of paper that spells out all of their obligations... it's called their contract, trust me I'm a vet and I was smart enough to look over mine and took it upon myself to ask questions. So if someone chooses not to read it that's their fault when their military career doesn't go the way they expected it to, not the military's.

It's mostly politicians, during the 90's (thanks to Clinton) there where major cutbacks in military spending which effected everything including the military hospitals. I did my research before going to a recruiter as im sure you did as well, We both KNEW we would go to Iraq or anywhere near there. So why cant other kids do the same? If a recruiter says that you wont go into a combat zone, just leave the office, they cant force you to sign.

The dislay with the u.s. soldier was tasteless. I have a friend that went to iraq and didnt make it back and for you to do what you did is very disrrespctful to him and his memory, i couldnt imagine if his mom saw something like that knowing what happened to her son in Iraq(Anbar province IED, March 2004). All this protest would do is mentally scar young kids on their way to the RO for a career in the Army.

and for your information retard, not all Army careers put you in combat (you have a choice of what you want to do) If you chose Infantry or combat support dont be surprised when your in fallujah trading shots with insurgents, recruiters make that clear. Im a parleagal specialist MOS my job is out of an Army fort in Queens, NY and i have deployments coming up in Kuwait and later Germany.

We, the USA, are the aggressors, we are the ones invading and occupying not just Iraq but many other places too. We have military bases in over 150 countries right now. That doesn't sound like protecting the states to me, that sounds like a military and economic EMPIRE!

pixiliatedmost of those bases are in allied countries with their permission. the U.S. military best serves its purpous in forward deployment. we dont any enemies on our borders so the bestwe can do is help others with theirs.

Did you know that the majority of recruiters didn't ask for the recruiting duty? We are tasked, and HAVE to do it for three years. In the 70's, soldiers volunteered too ... to storm the WH and take that hill, after hearing enough crap. It just frustrates me. I've been in 7 years, and am just trying to do my job to get home and see my family. Why do protesters have to make it as if we are the ones to blame for the war? When they cause our station to shutdown, we must work longer hours when we already work 12+ hours a day. Lots of divorces in Recruiting.

It's also pathetic of them to be recruiting children at public schools or the schools lose their govt. funding. thats true, my recruiter is originally combat engineering MOS. He's a great guy, he never lied, he tells it straight, and he tells me the risks of being a soldier on active duty. Im gonna be a paralegal specialist soon and an OCS candidate in two years to be a Military Intelligence Officer.

Congress is actually planning to send alot of Iraq War soldiers home (probably ones nearing the end of their deployments) most the ones left are gonna be stationed in the countries surrounding Iraq. Im going into the Army in a year myself bro, but im gonna have to differ wtih you on terrorists following us home. In my opinion i think they just want us out, cuz then the countries theirs. and you and i both know that Iraqi troops and police officers have no idea what their doing.

If it weren't for soldiers like them, this kind of thing would probably be illegal. I happen to be joining the US Marine Corps, and my recruiter hasn't lied about anything. I've checked what he's said with others, and he was straightforward about everything. He didn't say shit like, "Oh you won't go to Iraq" or w/e, he said he'd been there, and knew others who had, and that he'd go back and fight in a heart beat. Maybe it's just the Marines,

What happens when recruiting moves out of your community, and you deny people the information that is necessary to continue an all volunteer service? Will the rest of the world simply lay down there weapons hold hands and start singing cumbaya? I doubt it. People get drafted to serve when they don't want to,... that's what happens. Would you rather have people serve who are willing to serve, or would you rather have people serving when they are being forced to serve?

wrong, your trained to kill because when your in combat its either you or him thats what you train for, if someone is shooting at you and you sit and think about killing him your gonna get popped first, thats what war is. The people that our soldiers are killing are insurgents. Read the newspapers, the innocent iraqis die from insurgents bombs. Just the other day 250 were killed when a bomb went off in a crowded marketplace. Let me ask you this, whats the extent of your military experience?

Lying is one of their best sales tools. Just remember, they'll tell you anything you want to hear but none of their promises are binding; only yours is! Don't sign up thinking you're going to get money for college; that's mostly a crock.
