Hey, I'm getting a new camcorder and it's a toss up between this or the HG20. Both have their pro's and con's for me. One main concern is direct audio recording. Is it good? Also, is there audio control for this one? I read somewhere that there wasn't...wanted to confirm. Thank you :)
There is no audio control for the HG10. You might want to look into the HG20. However, if audio control is an essential for you, you might as well grab a sibling or a friend to be your boomer (someone to hold a giant mic and record audio while you film).
Is the direct audio recording passable? I've actually found more things I like about the HG10 at this point and wouldn't want to fork out the extra money for the 20.
The built-in mic picks up more volumn from the front approximately 45 degrees than other radius around the camcorder.
I would get a digital recorder and a mic with either 35mm jack or usb connection and do separate audio recording. You can use video editing software like Sony Vegas Pro 8 to merge the audio with the video later on.
With wind deduction mode turn on it's as I described it above, other than that it picks up quite some noise as the volume becomes louder.
how is your cam working in low light and how about color and noise performance? i buy camcorder for my 3d animation movies could you please help for this my range is under $500..
By slowing down your shutter speed you can accommodate for low light. However, this may result in ghosting. Most of the time it's not necessary to slow down the shutter, camera will adjust accordingly.
Thanks it's really helpful for me..plz tell more thing about, which format that produces, i prefre AVI, or MOV, i use Adobe premiere for editing.and there are different between Canon VIXIA HG10 , and basic Canon HG 10?
The Sanyo FH1 lacks colour shading variation in white balance, you won't be able to see the roundness of a white shiny plastic ball very well outdoor, and in low light condition, it's very blurry. Due to the lack of colour variation, the Sanyo causes the image to be foggy.
Sony incorporate many features to their camcorder but actual video aren't as good, plus it's too expensive for what it's offering. If you're just looking for film as you go camcorder, you don't really need Canon VIXIA series. The Sanyo FH1 will suffice for that job. If you're looking to bring more creativity in filming, but don't want to spent a whole lot on professional product then the Canon VIXIA line are the better choice.
PLEASE HELP ME..i just got this camcorder but how do i upload it to my comp??? i pluged it in and than whaat??? i downloaded the software but how to i put it on my comp??? please help me out
hey something wrong the after i did that and put it on youtube it was only 13 sec long and was all green?? this is what i have done skip to part 7 ok 8 i renderd it as Windows Media Video V9 template is the default one than went to custom Default Template again the top thing under that video rendering quality as best than next page to audio CBR format windows media audio 9.1 attributes 64 kbps 44 khz stereo (a/v) cbr part one of comment
part 2 of comment next page which is video is mode quality VBR UNDER THAT IS FORMAT WHICH IS windows media video 9 under that is image size is HD (1440X1080) THE FRAME RATE IS 23.976 (intc fim)
I have the HG10 and mine came out EXTREMELY blurry on YouTube. Clear on the camera and computer, but not on here. Did you do anything to your videos besides upload them to your computer and then to YouTube? PLEASE HELP! No this camcorder does not need night vision because the manual mode allow you set the exposure level allowing more light in for video with less noticeable noise.

hey, amazing video. im getting this. i was wondering, if i use Ulead VideoStudeo 11 to make a movie how would i get it so i can watch it in wmp and upload to youtube, whilst still being full HD
Well enough looking, got the camera! Just wondering how you rendered your clip to get youtube to use it as HD? resolution DV etc, Im a noob so please dont be afraid to go nuts on the explaining ;)
I use Sony Vegas Pro and save it as AVI file type using the DivX codec to compress the video. I believe as long as the vertical scale is greater than 1080 pixel it'll be consider HD on Youtube. If you require additional information there should be some contents from previous comments, any other info please contact me.
There are 2 settings that you can try if you wanted less colour saturation, they are N for Neutral in the colour section and Cine Mode (film icon). These settings works best in 24p, although there would be minor ghosting if you were to pan quickly.
Use Divx codec and set it to HD profile. The rest should be automatic. For $19.99 you can get full Divx codec to play with, the quality compare to the free one is by far uncomparable!
After you import your video to Sony Vegas Pro, just drag the movie to the time-line, there you can shrink or expand the block of the video. By shrinking the block it'll condensed it and make it play in speed motion, where as expanding it will allow it to play in slow motion. Typical video editor should support this feature.
How do you get the Vixia HV30 tapes converted to youtube? like my hg10 records to a hard disk and the quality is amazing then i put it on youtube and then i edit and it doesnt look as good like ive already returned a sony for it and i dont wanna return it again is there a way around it so it still has superior quality when i edit?
Don't edit on youtube, it'll down-sample your quality. Use software such as Sony Vegas Pro as mentioned earlier, you can get the trial version at the Sony website. After you're done editing, export it to avi with divx compression.
If you're using HG10 do the following: 1. on top of the camera swap it to P (near zoom button) 2. press FUNC. at bottom of the lcd screen 3. change to CINE MODE 4. go to N> change to NEUTRAL colour 5. change to HXP HIGH QUALITY 15Mbps 6. go to [=] Menu 7. change FRAME RATE to PF24 under CAMERA SETUP 8. exit all menu, press SET button center of wheel 9. press down until you see EXP, press UP, adjust exposure until you're comfortable 10. down again, FOCUS press up, adjust until target is clear
with an AMD QUAD 9600 black edition, 4GB performance OCZ ddr2 ram and 2x (ATi Radeon HD3870x2) it took approximately 25min to convert and render it in 1080p.
Very Nice. I liked it. I use sony vegas 8 to edit and just got this camera a day ago. Can i transfer it using SonyVegas8? Also when recording this clip what were your settings? Lowlight/custom/cinematic/auto/60i/24p and all that crap im sure you know wha tim talking bout.
You'll need to plug in the USB cable to the camcorder, navigate to and copy the STREAM folder to a local hard drive. This folder contain all the content you filmed. Open Sony Vegas, pull the content into the library and drag the one you want to edit to the timeline. As for this video, it's filmed in Cinema mode 24p using 15Mbps (max quality), Manual Focus so that the camera doesn't refocus on anything that moves. Don't use Auto, the quality is just comparable to that of the Program features.
Omg moving files from the camera to the comp is hard so far lol. I installed all the cd's required and im a bit confused where to find the Stream folder is. Can you help me figure out how to find my clips? I followed the manual and i think im just missing it under my nose.
Found the clips and put them onto my computer, but when i play with InterVideo DVDSE or windows media player no sound comes out. Also, thx for the reply about the Mode you recorded in
Use sony vegas and convert it to wmv format or divx format and you'll be able to watch it on other movie players. preferably either quicktime .mov or .wmv because they do not require codec to watch.
Hey dude, great video! I recently bought the hg10. I'm trying to upload it onto my computer as an avi or similar so i can open it and edit it in another editing suite. Is this possible? How do you do it?
Very nice, but wish you had waited until the sun actually went down. Does the HG10 model have a "time lapse" function? Must have, unless you figured some other way how to do it?

So what do you recommend HG10 of HF10?
supernerd1800 2 years ago
I would say, HF10 because you have the flexibility of changing out memory cards :) HG10 is limited to 40GB
tkruvgt 2 years ago
@tkruvgt The only trouble with the HF10 is that it feels like a toy in your hand.
The HG10 has a good solid feel to it.

This and the HF10 are perfect for low budget film, in fact, Crack 2 uses these to make their movie!

mmoby1 2 years ago
VIXIA is just a name for this line of camcorder, there isn't anything different. People tend to leave the VIXIA out to shorten the name.
The HG10 provide a pretty good manual control over the camera, ie. manual focusing, shutter speed, etc.
It records the video as *.MTS file, which can only be read by Sony Vegas Pro 8. The later release of Premiere may support this file type.
The newer model records it in QuickTime's *.MOV format, just like the Canon 5D MKII.

2. Plug in power or have extra batteries and record the whole sequence then speed it up in the end.

Very Nice.

Matriculation 3 years ago
download the trial copy of sony vegas, there you'll be able to export it to AVI or any other file extension as you like.

Very nice, but wish you had waited until the sun actually went down. Does the HG10 model have a "time lapse" function? Must have, unless you figured some other way how to do it?

hook up to a laptop and there you'll find the timelapse option with the accompanied canon software.
