We are supposing that aliens or whoever found thi record will be able to listen it in the same way we do. Sound i heard due the atmosphere which is the mean in where acoustic waves propagates .... but, why the f**k the founding being should living on a planets provided with atmosphere with the same density and composition of ours? ....
I wish NASA also included a track of Fairouz -a lebanese singer- she is indeed more than worth it, and her music both remarkable and ageless. come fellow music lover, give it a listen and remember me your human brother.
Im thinking, how would the aliens be supposed to listen to this music anyway? :P think if it meets up with a planet that have like non technological creatures on? They just try eat it instead. lol
This is truly amazing.. all of these songs are brilliant. This capsule could go on for 4.7 billion years. If something finds this, I hope they share similar sounds.
If this probe were being sent out today the same music would be picked. The reason the music that was chosen, was because it had already shown it's ablity to stand the test of time. Does anybody here think that in a hundred or a thousand years our decendents are going to give a rats ass who Del the Funkee Homosexual was? I'm betting there will still be plenty of fans of Bach and Mozart though.
Simply put, these are " Earth's greatest hits ". I'm glad that they didn't include any Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osborne, or DJ Jazzy Jeff, R. Kelly, or any other " flavor of the month " stuff here.
@pioughd87 I have nothing against the artist you listed, but i think they will be a pretty accurate, if not favorable view of your likes, not that of human culture. In fact whatever your spending on your probe will be a steal at twice the price when you consider it will wake Carl Sagan from his grave to seek vengence apon you for your short sighted selections. Good luck to you sir.
@allpainppd The risen corpse of Carl Sagan will return from the grave to feast on the brains of the living, creating an army of BILLLYUNS and BILLLLYUNS of zombies
@PorroFirst Come to find out there was an artist called Del the Funkee Homosexual in the 1500's, but he had to change his name lest he face the rath of the church...Ahh, the good old days.
@allpainppd This is an awful comment. There are plenty of amazing artists making music presently; you just need to turn off your radio and look around. Comments like these are obnoxious and ignorant.
We are ALREADY sending millions of Hip Hop, reality tv and other trash into space by radio signals, which are way way ahead of this spacecraft, traveling at the speed of light in all directions, beginning with Adolf Hitler's speeches!
@soccom8341576 Well not entairly true. You see we bounce most of it back with sattalites now. Back in the 30s yould have to blast out a powerful signal for the rest of the world to get it. Hitler was the first to do this :/
@loknloll I disagree with this whole heartedly. I absolutely love Blind Willie Johnson, as well as Stravinsky, Bach, and Chuck Berry; I also appreciate them for some similar and some very different reason; but that's the point of the music on voyager, it was diverse. Hip-hop is amazing, not Lil' Wayne, 50 Cent, Gucci Mane, Eminem and all that Jazz, but Common, Guru, Gangstarr, Blu, Myka 9, Freestyle Fellowship, Aceyalone, Del the Funkee Homosapien, there's serious talent and soul here.

If they had included popular music, "Tonight's The Night" by Rod Stewart would be on its way to the stars. Thankfully, they did not.

@allpainppd i'm an eccentric billionaire and the gold record i'm sending into space will include Mott the Hoople and Soulja Boy
...which actually would give aliens a pretty accurate, if not favorable view of human culture

With all do-diddly-do respect... Del the funky homosapien is a talented musician and popular culture music would of been suitable as well.

Hey, lets not bring Del into this, he could fully support all of the music on the craft for all you know.

@soccom8341576 - Unfortunately, you're correct, although one of the FIRST transmitted messages was supposedly a hemorrhoid commercial !!
My God - We're bombarding interstellar space with transmissions touting Extenze, Cialis, Viagra & PosTvac, as well. Corrupting interstellar space !!
