  • I always thought he had said 'I'll teach your grandmother to suck eggs' in the song...

  • No one seems concerned about the "I TOLD YOU I WAS GONNA SHOOT, YOU SHOULDA BELIVED ME. WHY DIDNT YOU BELIEVE ME?!"

  • WOOOOWWWW!!! You just blew my mind today! That's incredible, I thought it was just John K exploiting his crazy mind but now I learn that he just put together non related things that Burl Ives said in the past to make it sound neurotic and insane.

  • I had no idea. Thank you for making this. :)

  • Wow. This whole time I thought Stinky was supposed to be a nightmare version of Raffi, folksy childrens' artist extraordinaire, but with extra creepy lines.

  • Man I always wondered whether those were just random lines or they meant something. Now I know :D

  • @DinosaurCop: According to the DVD commentary of "Stimpy's Invention," John K. stated that they tried to get Burl Ives himself to perform the Happy Happy Joy song, but somehow no one could track him down. Too bad!

  • Nice use of the password screen tune from Mega Man 3 at the end.

It's also worth mentioning that in the Ren & Stimpy cartoon "Rubber Nipple Salesmen" that the face of the sun is also Burl Ives.

  • great video! I don;t know if anyone mentioned this, but in the original script for the episode, it actually mentioned Burl Ives by name. John K just improvised the name Stinky Whizzleteats during recording. Or so the story goes, anyways

  • @DinosaurCop

    Awesome!

  • @DinosaurCop Eh.. Ives actually lived the last few months of his live in my hometown... My mother's friend was actually his nurse.. You learn something new every day.

  • 00:58 HOLY SHIT I've never laughed so hard!!

  • Thanks, Adam... by the way, your voice... your voice... there's something about it...

  • @bonbonquest

    You're very welcome!

And you are right, there IS something about my voice.

    Something.

  • @AdamLore

    Yeah, Seth Green, That's what.

  • Pay attention to scenes where the sun itself has a face. Seems to have a similarity to Burl Ives, both in that bright grin and Van Dyke-inspired beard.

This can be observed at the best of similarity in the episode "Rubber Nipple Salesmen" where Stimpy orates his speech on distributing rubber nipples to everyone, the sun shining down on him with a winking grin.

I guess Kricfalusi and the crew at Spümco had a liking for the guy...!

  • @ZENX49

    Very true!

I should have mentioned that in the video.

  • According to the commentary, they actually tried to get Ives himself, but the one phone number they keep using to call him never picked up, so it's John K. as Stinky to make that up (and I think it's John as Stinky too in "Son and Stimpy"). Once John was gone, Bob Camp took over as the voice, eventually doing his own version.

  • Thank you very much, I had no idea Ren and Stimpy had so many references until many many years later. The show seems even more hilarious now

  • I watched "The Big Country" tonight for the fist time, came here looking for something like this. Did not disappoint. Thanks!

  • @stung47000

Glad to be of service. :-)

  • OOoooo coool!...yeah I was always wondering if he was a real guy...lol

  • WHY DIDN'T YOU BELIEVE ME!?!?

  • Can we just get the actual scene?

  • Really when I think of the name Burl Ives, I'll always first remember a snowman wearing a mustache and a plaid vest! Excellent memory from childhood but once I saw the real Burl a few years after the snowman I couldn't help but wonder why they made the snowman look so specifically Asian. It was his eyes that did it, they were always on a slant and like slivers. Hey AdamLore you know anywhere on the 'net to find the R & S episode "Pixie King"? Top 10 R & S and I don't know where to find it.

  • @YaWantTaters

It's true, the snowman does look a bit Asian.

Regarding the Pixie King episode, I don't know of a site to find it besides netflix or a torrent site.

  • @YaWantTaters netflix got it

  • This is hilarious. Thank you for revealing the mystery of the Burl Ives influence. I'm a big fan of Ren & Stimpy and John K's work, in general.

  • where did "i`ll teach your grandmother to suck eggs" come from?

  • @unitedwebargin

It's also a quote from 'The Big Country'. Ives' character says "mother", though, not "grandmother".

  • Thanks, AdamLore . @ 2:41 Burl Ives does a script reading for the next "Ace Ventura" movie for a recurring-role cameo appearance as a UPS man. ( I know he's deceased, just thinking about a humorous 'what if'.) Ok love ya' buh-bye!

  • where did they get the"i'll teach your grandmother to suck eggs" part?

  • @03mrx

It's also a quote from 'The Big Country'. Ives' character says "mother", though, not "grandmother".

  • Have a holly, jolly Christmas, Adam. Excellent video.

  • @SimuLord

    Thank you :-)

  • ahhh BY JOVE it is the glorious MM3

too bad you didnt beat the hammer

hahahah great work man love the artworks, its nice to see something

that's not ignorant racism for a change on youtube. ;)

  • @AdamLore

what is that video game sample in your credits

i know its nes, game over screen.

if you dont tell me i will bash my head in with a hammer (ha halarious right)

    and then you!

  • @funk45750

    Mega Man 3 password screen.

    :-)

  • Mind = Blown

  • The Big Country, that's a good movie.

  • @kingrex2005

    That's very interesting!

Do you know if any recordings still exist?

  • @AdamLore There is none. Cobain wrote lyrics for a song, but never discussed recording because whoever was in charge thought he was just another fan who watched the show, and threw the lyrics out! Nothing was said about wether or not they were recovered, but no, there is no actual song.

  • @kingrex2005

    bummer!

That makes me think of how The Beatles were originally supposed to do music for The Jungle Book.

  • i loved ren and stimpy, still do. wasn`t it stinky weasel-teats though? i always thought it was. weasels` having teats, that stink. speaking of which, son of stimpy is my fave episode.

  • Mega Man 3 game over theme was great.

  • This was awesome... thanks for the research you did. I love Burl Ives AND Stinky Whizzleteats (hehehe his name is funny)!! Now I know why! :)

  • The greatest single video ever made on Youtube ...

  • wow......Great info

  • And you even have the original where Ren hitting his head with the hammer, all the sound effects in there! Well done, tyvm! I remember renting Burl Ives movies looking for some of the quotes,. ><

  • I'll teach your Grandmother to suck eggs!

  • Whoa sweet, Mega Man 3 music at the end!! I was not expecting that.

  • @goheklikaplunco

    ha, glad you noticed that!

  • Wow

  • that still doesn't explain why he teaches our grandmother to suck eggs

  • @MattRichproductions

I think I forgot that part!

But I'm pretty sure the quote comes from that same western movie.

(though he says "mother" instead of "grandmother", if I remember correctly)

  • Nevermind weird people like CarvinV3 Adam, this was great, thanks for this video!!

  • @DemonDrummer1018

The pleasure is all mine. Thanks. :-)

  • There was method behind the madness afterall

  • Someone @ Spumco LOVES Burl Ives!

  • I love how they took the most RANDOM person they could, then took RANDOM lines from the most RANDOM person's work, then compiled it into the best song of all time, Happy Happy Joy Joy.

  • My dad has Burl Ives Christmas songs.

  • @Talor9298 Really?

  • I TOLD YOU ID SHOOT BUT YOU DIDN"T BELIEVE ME! WHY DIDN'T YOU BELIEVE ME?!!

  • Thanks so much for clearing that up! You're awesome! :)

  • I'LL TEACH YOUR GRANDMOTHER TO SUCK EGGS!!!

  • Originally Ives was going to do the voice but he couldn't be contacted, later John K called him and played the song and he said he would've done it.

  • I DON'T THINK YOU'RE HAPPY ENOUGH.

  • eeeewwwww!GROSS ren at 1:12!

  • Wow, I'll never think of Sam the Snowman the same ever again!

  • XD omg lol this is awsome

  • theirs a ewoks movie???

  • oh fuck! ren is about to fuck up stimpy!

  • @terorvlad actually cartoons like looney Tunes Tex Avery and other MGM gems were initially intended for adults. ( watch some of the old WWII propaganda films from that studio and you'll see what I mean. They didn't become a kid's thing until the late 50s. And Ren and Stimpy is hardly a kid's cartoon. Just watch APC and you'll get it.

  • Lol! Thanks for sharing that! Wizzleteats, my god, that sounds sexual!! Lmao I had a feeling the dude on the record cover was based off of some famous dude! Yes you learn something new every day! n.n

  • LOOK AT RENS BUTT 2:26

  • holy crap adam thanks man. i kinda knew it was based on a real guy but thats hilarious! crazy... great how they used peicesof his movies n songs for the happy happy joy joy song. i always died of laughter at that ''thats very funny... a fly marrying a bumble bee... i told ya id shoot... but ya didnt beleive me. why didnt you beleive me?'' classic

  • @extracredit100

Glad you got something out of it!

  • @extracredit100 Wow yeah thanks Adam.18yrs later.lol

I don't know about you guys but after I know what Ren &stimpy did its hard to take those moive sence seriously.

I was chuckling the hole time.....for the little creatures.

No wonder some of that stuff wasnt making since

  • this ruined it for me

    thanks dick

  • @CarvinV3

What is your deal? First you complain to the author of Twilight that she ruined the movie for you. Then you look up the lyrics to the new Justin Beiber song just to complain to the girl that posted it that she ruined it since you hadn't heard the song yet. Then you got to imdb and look up who did the voice for Simba in the Lion King. When you find out it was Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Mathew Broderick you complain to the owner of the site.

    And now this!

  • @AdamLore I know! I cant help it, its just you and i share all of these things in common. I still have the nsync pendant you gave to me with your picture inside. I just cant throw you away from my life. oh and we didn't even get to finish twilight thanks to you.. wink wink

    And now this?

  • @CarvinV3

haha... why revive a 6 month old thread? Get over it.

The N*SYNC pendant was a nice touch, though, I have to admit.

  • @AdamLore haha! i barely noticed it the other day. So its back from the dead. plus i cant get over you, never!

  • @CarvinV3 You ruined life for me, thanks :(

  • what's that music at the end of the video? I remember hearing it in a video game but can't place it...

  • @davidzacuto

    Mega Man 3 password screen !! :-)

  • @AdamLore oh $nap now I remember. nice touch.

  • brighter colors.

  • Wow. . .I've always wondered what those in between, random, crazy musings meant. . .

Thanks a lot for this one. . .

  • Back when nickelodeon was actually good

  • Ver' nice!

  • frickin sweet man..awsome

  • very useful. luv it!

  • this is really interesting

  • bring it

  • Stimpy doing that butt dance on the floor is the best part

  • wow, nice information. thanks for the upload!

  • Very cool! :)

  • @starsandsea

    :-)

  • This video needs more exposure, seriously. Very well done!

  • @hellfactor

    Thank you. :-)

  • HILARIOUS SONG!!!!!!!!

  • And Stinky Wizzleteats' voice and guitar is John Kricfalusi. Accept no substitutes.

  • @MsGeek703

    Exactly!!

  • OMG thank you so much for this! WONDERFUL information!

  • @AliceMarr

Glad you got something out of it. :-)

  • Thanks for the Info, dude....but what about the sucking eggs part?

  • @StangBoss70

    I accidentally forgot it!

But it is in that same western movie. (The Big Country)..

only I believe he says "mother" instead of "grandmother".

  • @AdamLore Aah, Thanks! it makes a TON more sense to me now, and I can laugh smarter...if that makes any sense...Only b/c I now know the references!

  • I u know u peiced together one of the most disturbing and intriguing mysteries in the history of Cartoons.

So thank you u r a service 2 ur peers and ur Country!!!

  • Jesus, whoever made this show loved their drugs.

  • @seamusotorain I don't think you're happy enough!

  • This is great!! thanks for the inside scoop!!!!

  • @edsquidful

    You're welcome! :-)

  • I'll teach you to be happy! I'll teach your grandmother to suck eggs!

  • oh ^^ eggs* and ty

  • Great vid! I know Bob Camp voiced Stinky Wizzleteats on CD. Does anyone know if it was Bob or John K. that provided the original voice on TV? I always thought it was John K. and they replaced his speaking/singing parts with Billy, Bob, etc. when they issued CDs (after John K. was canned), but I could be wrong.

  • John did the original voice.

Why they would re-record the song is beyond me. It sounds awful.

  • Thanks for the confirmation. I agree that the re-recordings don't match up to the originals. John K. is a genius. It's a shame Ren&Stimpy imploded like it did. The old school episodes, before John K. left, are amazing.

  • For sure.

Although I could still see Ren & Stimpy making a comeback. The Adult Party Cartoon had a few gems, and I think John is developing new stories perhaps for the Cartoon Network.

  • well i wounder where did they get the gremma and edds part

  • It's from the Big Country. (I just forget to include it )

I think he says "mother", though, instead of "grandmother".

  • yeah, but you'd also be Romanian, so... =/

  • in Japan grown men watch cartoons called anime T.T.

  • i am guessing the writers did the "i'll teach your grandmother to suck eggs!"

  • That comes from the Big Country but I forgot to include it. I think he says "mother" instead of "grandmother" in the movie.

  • Great info -- I don't think your happy enough-- I love when they say that lyric

  • I remember being the only kid who got the whole Happy Happy Joy Joy joke. It helped to have a grampa obsessed with Burl Ives.

Ah, good times. Such a show wouldn't make it a step passed the censors today.

  • Is that music from a Game Boy Mega Man password screen, and is it sad that I know that?

  • @evenmorebetter

    very sad.

  • I saw part 1 - part 2 or 3 of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer for the first time a couple weeks ago and I'm 11

  • Nice! This is very interesting!

  • cool ty:D

  • I'll teach your grandmother to suck eggs

  • Wow..that's heavy.

Thanks for the Colonel Sanders trivia! I certainly can see the resemblance.

  • this owns, thank u so much, this is even funnier

  • I was never a fan of Ren & Stimpy, but I saw two things I liked. One was this song. The other was something about Powdered Toast Man.

When I was a kid, I had a friend who thought Burl Ives was an alter ego of Colonel Sanders. Some trivia.

Great video. It brought back memories of a pre-suicidal existence that was eventually eclipsed by a cowardly non-suicidal petering out. Ah, fate! Five stars... "cinco estrellas."
