Funny how all the pilot-engineers chime in as soon as an airplane video appears on utube. Nothin but the facts ma'am. 145 knots with a drop speed of blah blah with an external enchilada and turbo cig lighter. Please just fly the plane and we'll talk amongst ourselves you pilots.
I watched 4 of them in action on the same fire in real life, and they were picking up water in a coordinated system that looked like it was a military performance
These guys are professionals and their job directly protects the lives of Canadians from a threat when they are called to duty, rather than spending billions fighting a resistance movement in some foreign wasteland proclaiming it protects us
@shawnyblaze : They are spinning. They appear to slow, stop or even reverse due to strobe effect caused when the position of the blades roughly coincide with the frame rate of the camera.
I hate to criticize a cool video but your description is a little off you said that it can refill its tank in ten seconds at 7580 kn (139148 km/h; 8692 mph), 8,692mph? An SR-71 cruises at 2,200mph that's about mach 3.3, an F-16 about mach 2 1,500mph, and the fastest prop driven aircraft's have only reached about 500-600 mph. The max speed of a CL-215 is about 180mph.
@will13fox LOL I only copied and pasted that info from another site. Never even noticed or I would have realized that was impossible. I removed the rest of that sentence. Maybe it meant some kind of pump inside the tank is pumping the water in that fast? Maybe it meant the force in kilonewtons that the water is forced in? Thanks for pointing that out. Now it makes more sense!
@will13fox I think it was supposed to read "refill its tank at 75-80 knots" - I saw the article referenced and that's the data posted. Still, 7,580 knots - I'd be mighty impressed to see an aircraft flying that speed!
@will13fox I suspect it was a decimal placed in the wrong spot: But hey , It's an aiborne fire truck; it has to be fast. LOL. A herc has a drop speed of 145 knots , stall of about 130 I am guessing sop I suspect this thing is likely about 80 Knots Parehaps tanker refil speed is 139 point 148 or 139 to 148 KM per hour. These seam like reasonable speeds. Mach 12 is a little fast to hit the water.
the cl-215 are good the cl-415 are better and widely respected, what I would like to know is why no one has built an updated model of the martin mars water bomber.
That plane is in huge demand and no one has decided to build more of them.
Just realisd that strobe effect can happen at engine rpm other than camera shutter speeds but it's a bit complex and involves the number of prop blades...sorry !
What we're seeing is a typical example of stroboscopic effect, where the camera frames per sec' happen to match those of the props. A camera takes 24 frames per second or 1,440 per min'. Therefore if the aircraft props are turning at the same speed then the camera captures an image of the blades in exactly the same position every time so they appear not to have moved at all. The footage shows that this aircraft's engines happened to be turning at 1440 rpm at that moment in time.
i hear that happen to a woman a man an a child in a form of test an the persons in the water did no asked harm was done to them an air craft used picked them up an droped them persons placed in the water tank whom no wanted human trafficing marrages or drug use of life, a bazzkoa was called an a gov war tank
to kill ww2 air craft crime persons a few times in world history as use of job an air craft use no for they job only
The blades are spinning at the exact rate the camera is taking shots. Probably 30 shots per seconds. Blades spinning at 30 rotations per second... something like that. Weird optical illusion.
@blevin13 close to were i live here in portugal (theres fuck loads of forest fires here aswell about 600 or so every summer) a guy had/has 3 big tanks where he breeds fish, here choppers with buckets are aloued to get water from any were, where the bucket fits, they'll dunk it and fill, so they dunked the bucket into 1 of the tanks taking up most of his fish, he was on the news talking about what happen, and boy he was not happy
@blevin13 the answer is yes, some little fish get's in and are baked, ready to eat 10 minutes latter ;o) i've seen it with a CL415 in south of france after a big fire near were i live.
@peteygonzales27 Actually they are 6in in diameter. the odd fish probably does get pushed in. Not sucked in. But probably doesn't survive and gets dumped--lol. They can pick up 1,200 imperial gallons of water in 11sec. If I remember right they can drop in in less than 3 if they have too. Got to go inside one once and talk to the pilots. Got to watch the engine start and taxi across the Schefferville airport.
it's a 215 - radials (as others have mentioned). The 415 have turboprops and a slightly different wing design - and some other aero improvements. Saw a 415 doing runs over my house 2 years ago. Amazing aircraft.
I think you are right. Those DO look like Radials, not Turboprops. It does seem to have many of the extra aerodynamic bits and pieces of the 415, but come to think of it, I'll bet a number of 215's have added 415 "stuff". Actually, right up to the Turboprops themselves. That would DEFINITELY confuse me. But in this case you are right and I am wrong. Pretty sure, anyway.
That's my house in the background, it flew over it and scooped up the water from Sydney Harbour and dumped it behind the Mayflower Mall...pretty neat to see!!
without a lake...nothing special.

pretty cool how the fps matches the propeller rotation and it appears that the props stop and ever so slowly reverse direction.

pjvenner 5 months ago
@shawnyblaze I think it's because of the number of frames per second the camera is using, it gives the illusion that the props aren't spinning.

@MrMrSilviu it`s an optical illusion. A plane like that, picking up water, would still have its propellers moving.

The props are turning and the same frame rate as the camera
The plane is at full throttle with it's tanks full of water and climbing
P0PZILLA 7 months ago
@omyvega1 It is not fake,it's just the camera hasn't got high enough frame rates to pick up the props moving at such a speed.
