Continued: Very simply, This would have helped the economy if the $ to fund it was free. Prob is the $ is not free. Its taken from others. Yes it helps dealers ect ect ect but hurts others. I went to the local pick-a-part junk yard today to get some odds and ends, *some* of the cars DO end up in the junk yards to be picked off. I stress *SOME* not all.
The engines were still in the cars, useless of course, but the car bodies and interiors are decent minus the obvious 'clunker' chalked on the windshields/body. Hadn't seen any with the spray paint scribbled over the body, those were either already destroyed or still on dealership lots to attract more people I guess.
Oh please Obama! Wateva! A great way to help people is to give these clunkers to greatful people, who dont even have a bike to get to a job or to find one.

Now for your old car, they put 2 quarts of sodium silicate and run the engine till it blows, now they have sodium silicate in the oil pan mixed with at least a quart of motor oil that they did not get out of the oil filter and this is a toxic waste worse than straight motor oil.

I'm not sure about the figures, but the closing of tax loopholes, here in Europe too, gives people more confidence in the system. At least we can all get a grip on who is what and what they are. Sorry but that is not how it works. When corporations make a profit, it goes to the stockholders of the company. Those stockholders (individuals) then pay tax on those profits. I said that the top 1% paid over 40% of the federal income tax and that includes profits from corporations. Here is another figure for you. The top 1% paid more than the bottom 95% of taxpayers. By the way, these figures come from the government (IRS).

The assersion that most firms pay no income tax is a farce. Many companies are pass through entities such as S-Corps and partnerships. These companies pay NO tax at the company level because all profits pass through to the owners and are taxed at the individual level. The idea that the rich dont pay taxes is a myth.

1)That will never happen in our era. It will be when the idea of tuning an older car ceases to exist. There are still too many older cars on the road.
2)OnStar is the testing of OBD3 for the future. Once OBD3 is fully operational & distributed, no one will have 100% control of their newer vehicles ever again, which is why I refuse to buy anything 2000+. Anything that has a drive-by-wire throttle can be remotely controlled.
3)Hybrids suck & they have batteries, which are harmful when damaged.

This program helped: truck drivers, banks, insurance companies, salesman, dealers, stock holders and the following manufacturers: glass, plastic, wheel, tire, brake, carpet, electrical wire, steel plant, car radio, plants that manufacturer ALL the engine parts, the plants that assemble the engines, the plants that assemble the transmissions, the plants that assemble the cars....etc.
And ALL the above mentioned helped, ALSO have suppliers.

I went to the local pick-a-part junk yard today to get some odds and ends, *some* of the cars DO end up in the junk yards to be picked off. I stress *SOME* not all.
The engines were still in the cars, useless of course, but the car bodies and interiors are decent minus the obvious 'clunker' chalked on the windshields/body. Hadn't seen any with the spray paint scribbled over the body, those were either already destroyed or still on dealership lots to attract more people I guess.

I'm not sure about the figures, but the closing of tax loopholes, here in Europe too, gives people more confidence in the system. At least we can all get a grip on who is what and what they are. It means we are all on the same page and it can be a level playing field. Everybody, I think, just wants sustainable sanely directed recovery.
We are perhaps lucky that is China and India who are our neighbours, It could work that we all grow, restructure, together gently, greenly and in peace.

Sorry but that is not how it works. When corporations make a profit, it goes to the stockholders of the company. Those stockholders (individuals) then pay tax on those profits. I said that the top 1% paid over 40% of the federal income tax and that includes profits from corporations. Here is another figure for you. The top 1% paid more than the bottom 95% of taxpayers. By the way, these figures come from the government (IRS).

The suggestion is that companies report zero net income. small companies may be paying other taxes, but there is also very dodgy (unfair to the tax payer and market) dealing going on.
it seems not so much that the framework was wrong, more that it was abused, let's stop it leaking where it shouldn't.
it could greatly ease tax for others.

Mars, I dont know where you are getting your info but your original assertion that the top 1% are not paying much tax is wrong. What is your source? The assersion that most firms pay no income tax is a farce. Many companies are pass through entities such as S-Corps and partnerships. These companies pay NO tax at the company level because all profits pass through to the owners and are taxed at the individual level. The idea that the rich dont pay taxes is a myth.

To me this seems absurd, so I have had a dig around, I discover that many corporations have indeed been allowed to escape tax catchment.
I greeted with great applause Obama's visit to Europe recently, in which he pushed legislation to close channels for such money.
You ask me to contend the existence of a problem which your President is currently solving.

I believe that the largest corporations, many of who's dealings are veiled behind obscured parts of the military budget, and large multinational companies having root in the USA, are able to declare profit in tax havens, so avoid tax in the USA.
Obama has moved to close these practices down.
Bush and vast spending on arms recently inspire deep suspicions.
Such questions probe at political manipulation and at the incomes of the very top earners, at a time of literally, record breaking profits.

What concerns me about all this is that welfare has been hugely damaged in the USA. This gives the republicans, easy victories as it can always seem as though corporations are under undue burden. I want to see a progressive economy, where we can all become educated healthy and produce wealth for more than just the bosses' creed. While the right is a dead weight by repeatedly giving us Sarah Palins; farce. what else may one reasonably suppose?

A closed system cannot have proofs; it has nothing to compare it's elements except itself.
When reality breaks in, it will seem very incoherent.
What is happening is that revenue is being compared to quality of life, to stability, to solutions and so on.

The top 25% paid over 86% of federal income taxes while the bottom 50% paid less than 3%. YES, less than 3%. Look it up for for yourself. You can think what you want about taxes and how much people should pay. I just want people to make these decisions using actual facts.

The income from stocks is taxed as capital gains and dividends and not personal income. The rate is much lower. The stock market is wealth redistribution from the middle class and poor to the wealthy.

Actually, the income is double taxed. It is taxed first at the corporate level and then again at the individual level. These combined rates is Higher than the individual rate. Also, the middle class invest in the stock market through there retirement accounts. Anyway, the corporatin are not stealing from the poor. The corporation produce something of value which people buy of their own free will.

The extra money for this is going to come from another program that was in the stimulus. Since this program is working so well they should definitely prefer to fund it over other programs whose results are still not known.
So its not new spending, its just redirecting money that was already going to be spent.

The % of population that wanted Cannabis to be leagal in the US in 1960 was 12%, in 2000 it was around 38%, now it is around 40-45%. Deaths by alcohol just in cars in millions. By Marijuana...
