Ridley was only distracting Samus, so he could fly away with the Metroid Larva. Mother Brain planned to clone the metroids and use them as a weapon to take over the universe, by unleashing them on any planets unwilling to sacrifice their land to her.

Ridley CAN NOT be killed in this first fight, 2 things can happen: 1) he does enough damage to bring your health down dangerously low then flies off. Or 2) you damage him enough to bring his health dangerously low and he flies off. But it is pretty sad that you could not get him to leave before he got your health down

@Solracxealz there's an easy way to do it, just stand on top of the door, you can keep hitting him in the head and most of his attacks can't hit you, it's cheap but it works.

technically I do believe he did get Ridleys health down enough for him to fly away as he dropped the metroid container at 1:38 THEN samus got hit afterwords causing his health to reach the minimal level. I remember that in order for RIdley to fly away due to your health being too low was when the alarm would signal like it is at 1:41 when his health is only at 16 in this video

it is based on the amount of hits with ANYTHING. all bosses have a health counter and every beam has a set number of damage it does to bosses at a charge, but since ridley 1 is defeated by no charging the code is to set its damage to a number of times you hit it.

ridley doesn't have to take a certain amount of damage to trigger the special event of dropping the metroid. the game counts the amount of hits he takes. it doesn't really matter if you use the normal beam, plasma, hyper, missiles or even power bombs. (it might be possible that charged plasma and hyper hit twiche as the beam is extremly large and goes through the enemy. charged plasma + ice defenitly hit normal enemys twice as you can see them freeze and half a second later die.)

Neh this fight isnt about damage to ridley but your damage. When your health drops to about 20 he will fly away.

If you do enough damage to him before reaching the health limit thingy, he will drop the container containing the Metroid and pick it back up again before he flies off (like shown in the video)

If you shoot him enough without getting below 30HP then he just flies away as usual. It's a forced ending to the space station. He just figures "I've Had enough of this shit" and blows it up.

Man, hyper beam doesn't seem to hurt Ridley in this first fight much worse than the basic beam! Well, maybe a little more, but it fires much slower. It's weird . . . it's so powerful in other fights.
