@stratocasterFILL The biggest focus you should have going into next season is to just get stronger -- that should be your primary goal in the off-season. Power builds off of strength and technique builds off of power. But strength takes a long time to acquire -- that's why you should start NOW on a solid strength training program. Your focus should be squats. Set a goal to try to squat 2x your body weight with GOOD TECHNIQUE
@Jeezyman33 'Back in the day' (as they say), I was a consistent 23' long jumper. But this video was made long past my prime when I was coaching. This is a good drill, but it's scary with newer jumpers because if you miss a box --- well, bad things can happen. But it DOES encourage you to get your foot down underneath you at take-off.
Very nice drill but... i have a question...won't this make your running be different with 1 leg to reach forward and the other shorter like a constant?not only in long jumping?
@IceRevan I think if you did this drill too much it could negatively impact your sprint mechanics because you're essentially performing a penultimate step every other step. But if it's only used periodically, I don't think it will mess up a person's gait. But this is a valid concern, yes.
