  • I watched this version yesterday. Mr. Rochester is so passionate in this one. I loved it!

  • The best adaptation in my opinion. Stephens, Fassbender and Dalton all too mournful for my taste.

  • 6:11 What the hell is a cador?

  • @TwistedRose17 It's "present" in French. In fact he says "a petit cadeau", which means "a little present".

  • epic version. Ciarán Hinds and Samantha Morton are borned to play in this Jane version!! hahaha!! all the others just don't move me!

  • o.o This kissing scene is so . . awkward.

  • I think he fits the my imagination of Rochestor the best...the others portrayed have been too conventionally handsome or just not quite the right look. Ciaran Hinds look just right, and the jane eyre girl is good (though a bit old). I would say he is a bit too forceful, but Rochestor from the books wasn't exactly an angel

  • "WILL YOU MAKE ME THE HAPPIEST MAN ON THIS EARTH?!" "No, but I'll eat your face off!"

  • This is disgusting. This should not exist. Charlotte Bronte was rolling in her grave when this was made.

  • I like the scene, the lines, and passion, just not the guy who plays rochester. He's just too old looking... its weird.

  • Oh, come on people...there are some parts of this adaption which are VERY good. In particular, the score throughout is beautiful...it really moves the story, especially the reunion scene.

This was the first adaption of Jane Eyre I ever seen when I was a little girl, and is the reason I remembered the story. To then go on and read the FANTASTIC novel.

  • I can`t watch this without thinking about EMMA. The role of Harriet suited her a lot better.

  • I don't think the actors are awkard kissers - it's a director choice IMO. It's stupid to have all this passion but then kiss with sealed lips like the 2006 Jane Eyre - it's not realistic. They would kiss with passion but actors can't mack down heavy duty on A&E - but the characters WOULD have. So they do this open mouth, heaving bosom, too excited-to-get-your-act-together choice. It works IMO.

  • @Jesusfreak45731 i know that's what i thought. he's still pretty good but everytime i watch this, i keep seeing firmin and it doesn't make a good image.

  • omg!! they are eating each other!!!...oh no wait they are kissing ? lol

  • @deeptirao1 Hahaha, EPIC WIN!

  • @deeptirao1 haha that is my thoughts exactly, i love the romance in this version except that part of it..the kiss is just plain wierd.

  • @deeptirao1 I watched almost every version of Jane Eyre and this one by far is the nastiest. This Rochester was in the Phantom of the Opera and his character doesn't like the Phantom (and I like the Phantom), so I don't like him. I just can't like this version!

  • @KarliMarieRoberts i agree :)

  • This kiss kills me as much as the 2007 Persuasion kiss, but other than that, this proposal scene is ridiculously romantic. I have melted into a gooey puddle. It's simple but it's so beautiful.

  • Well I love this version and I love HInds as Mr Rochester!

  • Although this must be nigh the most disgusting kiss ever in film history :D, Ciaran Hinds and Samantha Morton and the script writer: WOW! This version may be short, but it is ever so clever! The doubt on Rochester's countenance when she is confessing... He can't turn back now. Above all, the viewer suspects nothing whatsoever. So much better than any other version. It is a shame that most people can't see that and prefer a flirtatious Rochester rather than an arrogant one. Truly great.

  • @bonnyweething no. the worst kiss in film history goes to the kiss between joe and jed in "enduring love"

  • The kiss was a bit awkard... The whole proposal isn't very powerfull to begin with. But When they step out of the carriage together and stand side by side, they truly look like a nice couple :D

  • Thanks for uploading all these. I love Ciaran Hinds' voice. He is one of my favourite Rochesters (the other being Timothy Dalton). I find Samantha too 'soft' as Jane though, the 2006 version definitely has a better Jane.

  • guhhh why are they ripping off Sound of Music?

  • I wish I could see this version from beginning to end. Ciaran Hinds seems to be perfect as Rochester (not my favorite but I think closest to the written Rochester than the rest). I have been watching all of the versions on youtube lately and I dislike William Hurt and George C. Scott as Rochester. I don't think it an American thing though because there's something I like about Oson Welles' portrayal even. Jane is harder to portray and I like Samantha Morton very much.

  • @greensmyth I'd like to upload the whole thing, but Youtube'd close my account if I did it.

I believe Ciaran is one of the best Rochester too (talking about his temper, of course).

And I like all the actors who have played Mr. Rochester, but my favourite (as I said before) is Michael Jayston. Nothing is written about likes, I suppose.

I like Samantha too. She's a very good Jane.

  • Ciaran Hinds as Captain Wentworth? Lovely in every possible way. Ciaran Hinds as Rochester? I don't know why, but all I can think is eewww...

  • she's a good Jane, but he's a DISGUSTING Rochester!

  • @Jesusfreak45731 Yes, his name is Ciaran Hinds, and IMO he's a good actor. I like him as Mr. Rochester... Very passionate!

  • one of the best scenes ever. i think this is the best jane eyre. thanks for the post :-)

  • @elizabethgaskelfan Thanks for commenting. I like this version, but my favourite is 73'

  • @mafegui Hola!

  • that kiss is dirty, he pure misses her face.

  • @MolestedByTheLion Well... I think it's because she doesn't know how she must kiss him. (I hope it!)

  • The whiniest Rochester ever...and the mustache XP

Least favourite version...thougyh I like seeing the look on Blanche's face durign the shoppingn scene XD

    s

  • @MadameChristie Well, I like it very much.

I think Ciaran Hinds is a very good Rochester, but his moustache. He's passionate, vehement, sarcastic and hard... as Mr. Rochester.

And I think Samantha is the best Jane, refering to appearance.

  • @audreyhepburn652 I think he's too whiny. He reminded me too much of a spoiled 6 year old in the scene when Jane leaves. No offence to him, I really do likemhim as an actor. He was great in Persuasion. Morton was good. Not my favourite, but I have nothing against her either. I think in terms of plainness, I think Charlotte Gainsbourg beats her,

  • Any chance of posting the whole show?

  • I think it will be impossible to me... Here, in youtube, if you upload a whole movie, the web may close your account. I'm sorry, I only can upload these films in parts.

  • This is my favorite version of this book. The proposal scene gives me goosebumbs everytime I watch since I first saw it nearly in 1997 when I first saw it on PBs. Thank you for posting it!

  • My favourite one is 1973's (I love Michael Jayston in that film), but I also like this very much!

    Thanks for comment!
