  • Wow I kept on complain about the same thing. Why couldn't they call the gangsters and not fuck up an entire reputation of a country. What is kinda worse is how we still have not gotten a response from the film makers!

  • Actually it's PURE respect to all africans who suffered in the apartheid many many years ago. The way all humans treated the aliens in this film was cruel and unhuman. They treated them as if they were DIRT. Just as white people treated black people during the apartheid. As i watched District 9, i felt for the aliens 'cause they clearly did NOT deserve that treatment. They looked for rebellion and nothing more. I'm white and i felt it in the sense that black people suffered in the same way.

  • Fuck Nigerians, they all stink. Im more concerned about the aliens feeling. Come on Nigeria, the world know what you are, but really scamming the aliens with cat food, lol you fools!!!!!!!!!

  • but you're just being in idiot about this movie 'cause they depicted nigerians as the ones who treated the aliens like dirt. If that's what you think then you're completely wrong cause not only did blacks treat them like that, ANY human black and white treated those aliens like shit.

  • Are you serious dude? You have to stop being so sensitive to that stuff. Your compliants reminded me of some pple that were mad about 300 because the persians were depicted badly. Im persian and it didnt bother me. I didnt exactly like the movie but not because of any race-sensitive reasons, and in 300 they didnt even make many of the persians human. so a gang of Nigerian gangsters in a SA slum shouldnt bother you this much especially when its not completely unrealistic at all.

  • i'm not nigerian, but i agree with you 1000%. Those parts w/ the Nigerians was not only f*cked up, but it was soooooooooooo stupid and pointless. Seriously, aside from being the people to run to for guns, those characters empowered themselves by eating human flesh and killing -- USELESS FOR THE PLOT -- and the director has the nerve to tie those creatures to Nigeria? Just stupid typical cracker media behavior.

  • Your argument is like saying American; yakuza's represent the Japanese people. It wasn't meant to portray Nigerians negatively. It was just to symbolize a sinister side of human culture. All ethnicities have this, the label was irrelevant but it was needed for the storys structure.

  • @Brendan3D . For example if the Nigerians were replaced by say a Somali gang or any race of people it wouldn't chance the depiction because its about humanity in general. Remember the film also depicts a white African man in charge multinational company who is willing to sacrifice his son in law for his fanatical value.

  • @Brendan3D The whole incident is covered up to protect the moral stance of the company whose real interest is using dealing alien weapons for profit. The representation is about humanity there is no racism as its generalising humanities flaws. sorry for the typos..

  • i GET WHAT UR SAYING MY FRIEND BUT PEOPLE KNOW THESE GUYS R NOT REPRESENTING AN ENTIRE NATION. I THINK PEOPLE GET THAT TRUST ME, I DID IM LATINO AND WHEN I SAW THE MOVIE I WAS LIKE DAMN THOSE R GANGSTERS THT A HAPPEN TO BE NIGERIAN I DID NOT THING WOW ALL NIGERIANS R LIKE THAT AND I THINK THATS WHAT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WHO WATCHED THIS MOVIE THINK TOO. ONLY REALLY INGNORANT PEOPLE WOULD THINK THAT AND YEAH THERE STILL ALOT OF THOSE IN THIS WORLD BUT I WOULDNT WORRY ABOUT IT WE GET IT DUDE

  • this is not funny at all!!! I am behind my nogerian brothers this is not acceptable!

No one has the right to mess with any african country's image like it is done in this movie.

That not only a joke of bad test but it is higly racist!

  • Who ever said that the voodoo guy was supposed to represent all Nigerians? There are some that do practice cannibalism, Most don't but some do. It was portraying THOSE Nigerians. Nobody ever said anything about ALL Nigerians being like that.

  • i love the movie i am getting it on blue ray hey did u know the ps3 pissed them of 2

  • The depiction of Nigerians in this movie is deplorable and an INSULT. To paint Nigerians with this type of broad brush is unacceptable. BOYCOTT THIS MOVIE!!!

  • depletable

Fuck off dude, nobody mentioned SOMALIS, the nigerians however were mentioned so fuck off. you shoud blame South african bantus and zulus who are donkeys given the way they treat other africans they should never got help from other africans during aparthiad

  • Anyyyywaaayyyyyyyyyyy. They did this cuz they knew thw whole world would agree with them. Everyone is so frustrated with NIgerian trickeries, and that's why everyone at the movie theater was laughing. Sorry, though.

  • this movie maddddd hating to nigerians this is fucked upppp !

loll everyhting hating on us mann it's whack like wtf prostitution

  • Dude, you're bitching. You wouldn't say this if they replaced Nigerians with any other nationality.

    I mean be real, plz.

You and Nigeria are whining; very sensitive.

There are plenty of movies that focus on nations, and don't portray them to the best, and you aren't arguing for them.

So in closing, I just wanna say: sorry about that.

  • Don't judge man, just cause I don't put up a video every time I have a problem with offensive material doesn't mean that I don't speak up when it's necessary.

In short. I guess you are right. I am bitching, but then again, so would anybody else who cared about their country's image and it's certainly no crime to ask to be treated with respect

  • First of all depletable, I am a very proud Nigerian woman. I did not apprecaiate this movie at all. You say that we are just bitching but when you are constantly portrayed as savage people in the movies and on cable television you get tired of the mis-representation. I can't tell you how many times I have watched law and order and they cant even say the "nigerian offenders" name right. All I am saying is before you want to portray a race of people do your homework and portray them appropriately.

  • But it's fiction. In District 9 Universe Nigerians are Somalis.

  • True, but no matter how bogus a story may be, there's always an intrinsic truth. It's like they always say: Art Imitates Life. And I know for a fact that the sentiments of a number everyday South Africans closely parallel the depictions of Nigerians in the movie.

Everyone I've met who's been to SA recently says the legacy of racism and apartheid is still very much a part of the culture. So it's not really that hard to see why the movie has so many stereotypes.

  • I have one thing to ask: inter species prostitution? what the f&ck?

  • It's very sad to see what'd been done to Nigeria, while we are trying to re-brand the image of the country, but whatever happened, we caused it ourself.

Look at our local movies, we show cultism, blood-money making, and then show that we cannot enjoy life if not in the West and so many thing. I agree with you but we have to change first.

  • I must say that you are correct and what was done in that movie actually falls in the class of things that should be considered treachery or treason against Nigeria.

  • Treachery or Treason? the people who made the movie are not Nigerian. they can't have betrayed the country.

  • ...and one approach is -- I want to say traditional, because it's culture is traditional medicine in South Africa -- one approach is scientific and one is voodoo. But they want the same thing. So, that's an interesting concept. That's two human groups going about things radically different from one another and they both want the same outcome.

  • Neill Blomkamp: The thing I find interesting about it is witchdoctory is a huge part of African culture whether you like it or not. That just is a huge part of African culture. So, the thing that I liked about it is, on one hand you have the west and you have Multi National United. All they're trying to do is extract or reverse engineer this technology so humans can use it. The Nigerians are doing the exact same thing. There's no difference. The only difference is one approach is scientific....

  • So its acceptable to portray africans as unscientific, that in itself is an unacceptable stereotype... I do not lay the blame at the feet of Peter Jackson, its rests solely with Neill Blomkamp, who has shown himself to be typical prejudiced Caucasian South African with a low view of African Cultures. What was particularly wrong was that the treatment of Nigerians in the film just showed them all as criminals, no effort was made to show them a small subset of Nigerians...

  • It didn't show other nigerians because it took place in Johannesburg. If they were trying to portray Nigerians as a whole it would have taken place in Nigeria. But it had to take place in Johannesburg for the apartheid symbolism so the only Nigerians they showed were ones that had a reason to be in Johannesburg, which naturally would be criminals trying to exploit the aliens. Nigerians would most likely be in Nigeria and not Johannesburg unless they were criminals who intended to use the aliens

  • I and my Father am Nigerians and I agree those names were FAKE. My name is Akinwunmi not going to give you my last name though.

  • Akinwunmi Montove. Got you.

  • Not even close : )
