Enjoyed very much. Great job. When I was in college I was a member of a 20 piano team. We gave concerts every spring. We did have a conductor. I played with them for 5 years. Great fun and alot of work and practice. Keep up the good work.
Very well done. People don't realize how distracting it could be trying to play together, each person nervous of mistakes I'm sure :) Very synchronized and well played gentlemen.
And yeah, I agree that there really is no point in performing with so many people when there's little variation between them. Orchestras don't have instruments playing the same thing - only when the sound is supposed to be large and full...which this piece certainly isn't in most instances. Ecossaises is also not strict in tempo; all the accelerando and ritenuto directions are ignored.
So in all, it's moreso a bad thing that it's played by so many people in sync. Though I do commend the skill.
@starburstfunky Yeah, like I said, that's nice and all, playing in sync, but it undermines the other musical aspects (like expressive sensitivity). And all for what? A big, clockwork sound. I'm not criticising the pianists (they played great) - I'm just criticising the idea behind playing something on 5 pianos just to prove you can.
@starburstfunky Dynamics (there was dynamic variation, but there was either not enough, or were misplaced) but and rubato (not explicit of course). Busoni's arrangement characterised each Ecossaise extensively with dynamics and expression markings, but few actually made it to this performance. I notice that at some points, some pianos play something different, but that really only justifies the use of two, maybe three, pianos.
The second variation was too harsh, (the direction states 'ancora tranquillo' - calm). The mezzo-forte sections in the fourth variation are also too harsh for con grazia. They sound almost exactly the same as the sforzando segments near the end.
What language are you trying to type? It certainly isn't English. Ever hear of spelling and grammar? There is nothing impressive or interesting about 5 people playing exactly the same thing in exactly the same way. Machines can do that.
That was great! Thank you!

don't worry what everyone else says - it's beautiful what you're doing. Bringing something completely new to piano playing.

THANK YOU you included the Piu Allegro at the end. And I love that variation from the Kempff recording at the end. 5/5 and I'm liking it.

They are kind of playing the same thing...But I find that oddly fascinating. xD
Especially because they all have similar suits/hair from what I can see, it's kind of neat.
I enjoyed it for that. :)

@TheWanderingNight debatable... elaborate on what you mean by "expressive sensitivity"

This is like watching synchronized swimming. What's the point of five pianists playing exactly the same thing?

well, i agree that it's difficult for them all to keep the tempo, etc
but really, there's no point in doing this
it's sounds EXACTLY the same as one or two pianos xD
at least if they played different parts, like an orchestra...
but, this makes no sense (N)

I was hoping they'd each play a different one of the variations at the same time!

Actually me and another kid in this group tried that, it sounded pretty cool, but there was no way we could do it for the actual performance
drewcubed007 3 years ago
Lol that would probably sound...interesting. But kind of muddled, though XD
