Well you can be Roma and Serbian or Yugoslavian I suppose. Roma is a race and sometimes a culture not a nationality. I hope that someday Yugoslavia gets back together
I said i remember NOT "sound like" and let me said that folk mexican music was introduce in this country by inmigrants Europeans and some rhythms like "polka" for example, is taking by many folk groups.
If you had a Cuestion please visit Mexico and you know what im talking about!
If you visited there is no pass more than 3 hours and you are gonna dancing at the compass of "banda sinaloense ".
Jews, Romani, Serbian, Africans, Latinos, Germans all have a majority of people who like music! The wars and hate filled comments belong to those who don't feel the music. That is their problem, this is great music!! Thank you for posting this song that unites cultures.
Are you trying to be a wise ass? You know that the Nazi's overran the country and the monarchy was forced into exile. Serbs lost lives standing up to want Nazi's stood for.
To answer your question, yes, Beograd (Belgrade) does have a small Jewish community complete with synogague & rabii.
It's not a matter of being a wise ass. But many cities in the balkan used to have rich jewish communities before WW2, after that everything was different....
i sat this band at a bordres in chicago il, boban is fantastic, a true messenger of the great serbian brass band music (and a great person to promote serbian culture I might add) my favorite current world music along with the african jazz bands (bembeya jazz, orchestra boabab you know old rumba grooves) the cuban retro combos and brazillian samba/choro groups, keep it up boban from a fellow trumpet player, yves francois
Wonderful musical performance

it sounds so familiar since its kind of a song which jews in Turkey do like it. it sounds cool though
SimplyTurk 5 years ago
Also if this song is traditionally a jewish song, sort of hymn of the jewish pride, in the balkan region it is a standard for the gypsy bands.
onthecorner1978 5 years ago 3
By the way, the lyrics say "lets be marry and happy...blah blah"
Definetely the gypsy spirit!

This is actually gypsy music, but yes he is a great promotor of serbian brass music, although serbia has many different folklore-genres :)
serbiannorwegian 5 years ago
Actally this is not a Gypsy music, this is a very well known Jewish/Israeli song called Hava Nagila
ejbost120 5 years ago 2
He isn' a Serb. He is a gypsy from Serbia. Good music, i think, Jewish wedding music or something.
