As for the hit, it was well after Phaneuf had gotten rid of the puck, and Foligno dropped himself to aim for the knees. It was obviously a malicious attempt to injure him (moreso, obviously, than regular hits in hockey).

At the beginning, foligno lands huge punches and has Phaneuf on his knees. After that it was close but based on the first bit of the fight which was missed on most videos, Foligno won. Which is surprising.

The hit was fine. If anything it was interference, clipping is for the knees.

Seems pretty clear that the hit was premeditated. Players have certainly lost "respect" for one another. What happened to "clean" hip checks performed in stride on the fore/backcheck to rub someone out?
