I really don't know whether to laugh or cry in pain. Such a propaganda against a minority whose members merely call for freedom from religion, it is just worrisome. Sure, the tone and fast food, heroic attitude of the protagonist, and the depiction of the dark eyed atheist as wanting to 'ruin happy times for everyone', they are ridiculous enough to become humorous - but they do serve a serious political cause. A cause filled with idiocy, which mercilessly burns the cells of the brain.
@Dimi8448 Well sometimes I do worry about you atheist. You hate everything that has to do with God and want to prevent people from worshiping God in public. So, yea I can see a bunch of atheists wanting to ban Christmas because it is know as a religious holiday to some.
@IAmLikeWhatTheHell hey i don't mean to jump into someone else's arguemeant here but i just wanted to point out that their are quite a few Atheists that love Christmas just as much as everybody else (i know this because i have atheist friends) and the ones that don't like Christmas simply don't pay attention. It seemed to focus on the message that (more or less) Christians should focus on more important things than the "War on Christmas".

the reason there are so many atheists is that the younger generation are too lazy to go to church.
if one person went to church for an hour each sunday for 75 years, the percentage of your life spent in church would be 0.006%, compared to 33% of your life sleeping and 16% watching tv. so, if we took that time going to church out of watching tv, we'd still watch 15.004% watching tv. @jackthayer Well just because Christianity as a religion is flawed, doesn't mean you have to be an atheist. @ForceRecon198 but due to my questoning all i see is hyprocrites and propoganda with a person trying to control the masses.... i don't like being controlled i like thinking for myself not having someone think for me
@jackthayer LoL that sounds a bit like me. Most religions are a sorta conformist regime where you have to forego your personal opinions and philosophies to be a part of. I didn't like that as well. We should live with what we see and not presume knowledge beyond that. I like that lifestyle. :)
@alphafan11 Find my statement that says puritans were not Christians, nope i don't see it. So im not nit-picking. I do agree with many of the beliefs of the founding fathers
And the fact that most if not all the founding fathers were slave holders is only a surprise in the fact that they are not "thrilled" by it are idiots who never picked up a history book and children.
What 'TheShadowyPahria' doesn't make sense. I never been so emotional attached to a fictional character to say i hate or i love it. If someone has strong feelings to a fictional character and still dedicate a emotional relationship with that made believe person, then he/she should she a doctor.
As an atheist i do not have any feeling about 'god', the 'devil', 'heaven' or 'hell'.
I'm a Christian and I hate Christmas. I certainly don't want to fight about it. I prefer Season's Greetings. The idea of 'holy days' is patently unbiblical and everything about Christmas is thoroughly pagan (which makes it perfect for Catholics).
Lol yes all us atheists are out to destroy Christmas, hardly any atheist and any atheist I know personally could care less about Christmas, I met a BUDDHIST that celebrated Christmas for christ's sake. Hardly anyone thinks Christmas is religious what so ever.
@videoguy604 Why do atheists want state atheism so badly? What's so great about state atheism? Have you looked it up on Wikipedia? What cultural enrichment can atheism bring? I know I'm just a meager theist but could you find it in yourself to answer these questions?
@fashklash It's not state atheism we're looking for. It's state secularism. Secularism as put forward in the Constitution's First Amendment; "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Secularism is desired so we base our decisions in facts, and not on the whims of a religious order. There was a time when religious orders made all the decisions. It was called the Dark Ages. They weren't very culturally enriching.
@jameshitchen Atheist believe the world started with a big bang so please tell me how I am believing in a so called fairy tale when you seem to be doing the same thing. Oh wait, i know the difference a guy with a science degree told you so you believe him.
Well, you know, if history does not support your ideas, you can just rewrite it.
"Christians happened to have started the United States" and "Christ the Lord is the centre of Christmas". Orly?
The bible tells us that Christ was born when the harvest started. Also, nowhere does Jesus tell everyone to buy gifts for each other on his birthday. Oh, and 'jule' have been celebrated in my part of the world way back, long before Christians ever showed up. It's not about Christ, it's about the sun.
2:15 Oh my Unicorn the stupidity. I'm from Eastern Europe I know more about the history of the United States. To all Americans: your country was founded on secular humanist ideas by a bunch of Deists and Agnostics. Some were Christian, but was moderate Christians which valued Separation of Church and State.
@EdwardVonFishington Yea yea I get it, you believe that you are a sceptic, open to anything (as long as there is evidence (evidence is a "commandment" of atheism).... understand that you are merely playing at being an atheist, the same way you are playing at being "EdwardVonFishington"... your identities are appealing, and "clean" feeling to you, so you go with them, and believe they are real and true...
Atheism is a tribe, just like anything else... if you label yourself, you limit yourself/you creativity a receptivity to new ideas.
Religion has been corrupted yes, that is why one must do their own work.
Atheism is often a reaction to judeo-christian dogma, and is a label taken by people too lazy to think/be creative, so they believe nothing(atheist pseudo-scepticism), and adopt smugness.
@EdwardVonFishington Howabout you stop with the petty tribalism, and just be generous... don't lap up the mind controlling dogmatic bullshit, distilled out of a perfectly good cause.. but enjoy the aesthetics of whatever religion you like, and see if it shows you a way of improving your life...
Does anyone else think this is really, really funny. I mean REALLY funny. I celebrate Christmas, and I am a non believer, because I like the good feeling around the time, the excitement and generally the zeitgeist is fun. Is this how other athiests act? I think I have approached this holiday all wrong, and next time I should punch a Christian in the face, because that is how they show people without god, heartless immoral business types. Long story short, this made me laugh :D
Eh... as a Christian, I find this movie so stupid it is funny. 'Christmas' has long lost the actual religious everything about it. You can have the feeling of Christmas and not be Christian. People all over the world who aren't Christian celebrate the holiday, so why attack the people that happen to have no beliefs and can celebrate whatever they want? :/
@kirabook Fuck religion. Atheism is a religion... religion comes from the latin word "ligare" which means to bind, tie or fasten. Re-ligare... anything that narrows our view is religion. I think most atheists dont like Christmas, because they see all behaviour as selfish, and they cant find a method of being generous/together/caring/altruistic. Christmas is a method of bringing people closer to each other, and closer to the universe, by not feeling threatened by it.
Well then, I guess some Atheist the believe they don't believe in anything need a redefinition of it. Though that sentence is completely contradictory... believing that there is nothing to believe.
I know some might not like Christmas.... but I think some don't like the idea, like you said, of people that take it selfishly and just want to receive and so on.
@kirabook Haha yes, I totally agree... Paradoxs drive atheists insane aswell (most of the are materialists)... Your statement is proof against the existence of paradox, because I know what you mean, yet the sentence makes no "logical" sense!
So what is there to do? Drop the whole idea of believing and not believing; believe what you NEED to believe in the situation, ie if theres are comming, believe its real, if it hits you, believe the pain is unreal.
They say that is one of the essentials in society. Or a healthy one. To believe in something. Not necessarily someone, but something.
When I think of an atheist, *right or wrong, I can be corrected, lol* I think of someone that really doesn't want to be tied down and told they can't do this or that because some fantasy from ages ago said so. They can be what they want, when they want and not based on some set rules. 'Free' is one way to put it if religion is considered a barrier.
@kirabook If you ask a buddhist what they want, they will tell you that they want to be free. They do not want to be tied down by tradition/fantasy either. They use religion as a METHOD for escaping from tradition, however the method can easily trap you.
Aslong as you "be who you want" and "construct" your personality, you are trapped in believing that is who you are, and so you have to behave predictably in order for people to take you seriously.
Some people actually do like Christmas for the fact it brings the family together rather than just for the gifts. That might not necessarily mean they don't like Christmas. Or they do dislike Christmas and would rather celebrate X-mas.
@kirabook Exactly! Religion is a METHOD of bringing people together, though it can be used to do the opposite. It is a method of bringing people together, clothed in a strange middle eastern-greek-roman-european aesthetic. It is the aesthetic/cultural aspect/use of metaphor and old language that make people feel alienated from it.
But you know what I find, our Christian family rarely associate Jesus with Christmas at all. It really is a time just for family to travel across the country and see each other. We don't have the reenactment of Jesus's birth sitting around the house or outside. All we have is a santa and a Christmas tree.
I feel Atheist that don't like Christmas should reconsider. As even Christians don't exactly celebrate Jesus. Sad to say he is almost rarely mentioned at the time.
If Christians started this country then why don't we have the U.S. National Christian church? Or anything about Jesus or Christianity in the constitution? Why don't all public schools teach the book that only has about a quarter of it mention Jesus called the bible? The people that started this country were not people who called themselves Christians sorry but it's true there would be way more government documents saying so.
@ 2:17 Christians did not start the US, and if they did I gurantee there would no separation fo church and state, no freedom, dissenting religions, etc this country would be a theocracy.
I am an atheist and I love Christmas.... I would absolutely die to go one year without Christmas; It's my favorite Holiday and ..... everything just seems warmer during that period (the metaphorical warmth, as in warm heart... not temperature); actually I like Easter too, they're both fun (in addition to what I already said about Christmas) (Christmas and Easter are the two major holidays of my culture); and this goes with my atheism like water with... more water - it goes just fine;
I'm a christian but I totally believe that Dec. 25 is NOT the day when Christ was born and the idea of christmas came from the pagans. I read history of both civilizations and religions. In order for us to find the truth, me must compare facts with those things we only hear.
This movie is a fail. God and Jesus has nothing to do with Christmas.... well not THEIR god... Pagans gets all the credit for Christmas but Christians don't know that.
@rudyfortner2007 Some actors and directors are. But Hollywood is a business. It's main goal is selling movies and theater seats. It's about the profit. Studio heads are actually conservative, and only greenlight movies that they think will 1) make money, or 2) are their own vanity project.
That's why there's pretty much no innovation in Hollywood. No one is willing to try something new because the tried and true makes so much money already.
I'm an atheist but I do all to be respectful to the mores and ideals of my fellow humans, especially if my countrymen are super ignorant and proud of it.
You cut down a tree, put it in your living room and hang lights in it, give presents, eat a cake that looks like a log and supposedly there's a fat guy flying around in a sled; how's that christian? Even the date! Experts can't agree on a date for Jesus' birthday, but they do agree that it wasn't Dec 25.
Basically, they just changed the name and added the nativity scene.
So, if there's anything atheists shouldn't care about, it's christmas.
Not only this, but it's been proven that Christmas was chosen on Dec 25th to make pagan conversion easier. But it's because on Dec 22nd, the sun stops "moving" south on the horizon. It stays still for three days by the constellation called "Crux" or "The Southern Cross."
On Dec 25th, the sun or "son" rises from the cross back into the sky. There are so many figures in history that were crucified on Dec 25th and rose after three days, because of the son being the first "god."
@DeLilleD Basically. OK. You moron. You give atheists such a bad name. I am an atheist. First off, almost no Christians celebrate Christmas based on the date or the tree. The tree isn't in the Bible, neither is the date. Why even use this against them? The Christmas tree can be seen as a symbol for Christ or whatever the fuck you want. Just because it used to be something else centuries ago, who gives a fuck? Plenty of Christians don't give a real fuck what actual date Jesus was born on! Idiot.
my favorite part. "and i do have a problem with christmas, and all the rest of the garbage you christians have been jammin down my throat." amen brother.
Ridiculous. Christians try to run everything and then cry about oppression when something doesn't go their way. Why can't they play nice and share? No one is trying to ruin their holiday. That's just silly. Anyway, axial tilt is the reason for the season. And let's keep SOL in Solstice.
Why can't Christians be satisfied to have the 24th and 25th? Why does it bother them so much that some people want to celebrate other holidays? Can't they share the rest of the month with others? Why can't they respect that others have their own beliefs? This year I wished all my Christian friends a Merry Christmas. One 1 if them wished me a Happy Solstice. To me, that is selfish. Nobody is stopping them from celebrating their holiday. We just want the right to celebrate ours.
This is based on the bullshit propaganda that Faux News spews out 24/7 around Christmas to get people to turn against the ACLU which conservatives want banned as a "terrorist organization."
this is the result of the dumbing down of people through religious indoctrination: people who are so deluded and intolerant that they can take a film like this seriously.
seriously people, you need to get your thinking strait!
relgion is a touchy subject and christians push it to far which pisses me the fuck off, as long as ignorent christians and athiets bitch to each other about the topic of christmas then we truely lost the TRUE meaning of christmas, so enjoy urself assholes, merry fucking christmas
@AnxietyPro so did murderers, white supremacists, racist, slave owners, thieves and greedy businessmen just because they were here when the country started doesn't make them anything more than illegal immigrants that over took the real (read native) Americans do not elevated dead people above their merits.
@damierrumble Technically the Native Americans were immigrants too. They came from Asia and crossed the frozen land bridge which connect Russia and Alaska. I think they should drop this whole fucking immigrant bill thing (Can't remember what it's called) in Arizona. We're all fucking immigrants. Somewhere along the line one of ancestors hooped the border or got here by a boat. Why the hell am I talking about immigrants now?
@AnxietyPro they got to america first so they are not immigrants if you want to expand the meaning so much then technically east Africans own earth because they were here first and never left. this is not my main point though what I said was just because they were here at the founding doesn't make them deserve merit just because those ideas were here first doesn't make them right. America has gotten better socially because we moved away from oppressive ideals old ideas are not always good ones.
What a load of shit. I am an atheist and yes I can't stand Christianity, as little as Islam, Hinduism, Scientology and all the other brainwashing instittutions. At least I keep my opinions to myself and don't make movies about evil Christians pissing everybody off. This movie only serves to paint a very false and insulting picture of differently-thinking people, or rather people who actually think instead of believing in god, unicorns and Santa driving the Coca-Cola Truck.

The idea of 'holy days' is patently unbiblical and everything about Christmas is thoroughly pagan (which makes it perfect for Catholics).

fashklash 2 months ago
@fashklash It's not state atheism we're looking for. It's state secularism. Secularism as put forward in the Constitution's First Amendment; "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Secularism is desired so we base our decisions in facts, and not on the whims of a religious order. There was a time when religious orders made all the decisions. It was called the Dark Ages. They weren't very culturally enriching.

TheThordir 10 months ago 2
@EdwardVonFishington Yea yea I get it, you believe that you are a sceptic, open to anything (as long as there is evidence (evidence is a "commandment" of atheism).... understand that you are merely playing at being an atheist, the same way you are playing at being "EdwardVonFishington"... your identities are appealing, and "clean" feeling to you, so you go with them, and believe they are real and true...
jackrowet1234 11 months ago
@EdwardVonFishington Your religion is believing that you dont need religion.
Atheism is a tribe, just like anything else... if you label yourself, you limit yourself/you creativity a receptivity to new ideas.
Religion has been corrupted yes, that is why one must do their own work.
Atheism is often a reaction to judeo-christian dogma, and is a label taken by people too lazy to think/be creative, so they believe nothing(atheist pseudo-scepticism), and adopt smugness.
jackrowet1234 11 months ago

MrRadiospread 11 months ago
@MrRadiospread
Eh... as a Christian, I find this movie so stupid it is funny. 'Christmas' has long lost the actual religious everything about it. You can have the feeling of Christmas and not be Christian. People all over the world who aren't Christian celebrate the holiday, so why attack the people that happen to have no beliefs and can celebrate whatever they want? :/
kirabook 11 months ago
@kirabook Fuck religion. Atheism is a religion... religion comes from the latin word "ligare" which means to bind, tie or fasten. Re-ligare... anything that narrows our view is religion. I think most atheists dont like Christmas, because they see all behaviour as selfish, and they cant find a method of being generous/together/caring/altruistic. Christmas is a method of bringing people closer to each other, and closer to the universe, by not feeling threatened by it.
jackrowet1234 11 months ago
@jackrowet1234
Well then, I guess some Atheist the believe they don't believe in anything need a redefinition of it. Though that sentence is completely contradictory... believing that there is nothing to believe.
I know some might not like Christmas.... but I think some don't like the idea, like you said, of people that take it selfishly and just want to receive and so on.
kirabook 11 months ago
@kirabook Haha yes, I totally agree... Paradoxs drive atheists insane aswell (most of the are materialists)... Your statement is proof against the existence of paradox, because I know what you mean, yet the sentence makes no "logical" sense!
So what is there to do? Drop the whole idea of believing and not believing; believe what you NEED to believe in the situation, ie if theres are comming, believe its real, if it hits you, believe the pain is unreal.
jackrowet1234 11 months ago
@jackrowet1234
'Free' is one way to put it if religion is considered a barrier.
kirabook 11 months ago
@kirabook If you ask a buddhist what they want, they will tell you that they want to be free. They do not want to be tied down by tradition/fantasy either. They use religion as a METHOD for escaping from tradition, however the method can easily trap you.
Aslong as you "be who you want" and "construct" your personality, you are trapped in believing that is who you are, and so you have to behave predictably in order for people to take you seriously.
DEFINING yourself is creating personality
jackrowet1234 11 months ago
@jackrowet1234
Some people actually do like Christmas for the fact it brings the family together rather than just for the gifts. That might not necessarily mean they don't like Christmas. Or they do dislike Christmas and would rather celebrate X-mas.
kirabook 11 months ago
@kirabook Exactly! Religion is a METHOD of bringing people together, though it can be used to do the opposite. It is a method of bringing people together, clothed in a strange middle eastern-greek-roman-european aesthetic. It is the aesthetic/cultural aspect/use of metaphor and old language that make people feel alienated from it.
jackrowet1234 11 months ago
But you know what I find, our Christian family rarely associate Jesus with Christmas at all. It really is a time just for family to travel across the country and see each other. We don't have the reenactment of Jesus's birth sitting around the house or outside. All we have is a santa and a Christmas tree.
I feel Atheist that don't like Christmas should reconsider. As even Christians don't exactly celebrate Jesus. Sad to say he is almost rarely mentioned at the time.
kirabook 11 months ago
If Christians started this country then why don't we have the U.S. National Christian church? Or anything about Jesus or Christianity in the constitution? Why don't all public schools teach the book that only has about a quarter of it mention Jesus called the bible? The people that started this country were not people who called themselves Christians sorry but it's true there would be way more government documents saying so.
CandJCuesta 11 months ago

rudyfortner2007 1 year ago
@rudyfortner2007 Some actors and directors are. But Hollywood is a business. It's main goal is selling movies and theater seats. It's about the profit. Studio heads are actually conservative, and only greenlight movies that they think will 1) make money, or 2) are their own vanity project.
That's why there's pretty much no innovation in Hollywood. No one is willing to try something new because the tried and true makes so much money already.

Funny thing is: christmas isn't even christian.

@rangergxi Oh, I thought you meant the birth date.
Megajanitor 10 months ago
@DeLilleD
EaiteFojdcee 9 months ago
@DeLilleD Basically. OK. You moron. You give atheists such a bad name. I am an atheist. First off, almost no Christians celebrate Christmas based on the date or the tree. The tree isn't in the Bible, neither is the date. Why even use this against them? The Christmas tree can be seen as a symbol for Christ or whatever the fuck you want. Just because it used to be something else centuries ago, who gives a fuck? Plenty of Christians don't give a real fuck what actual date Jesus was born on! Idiot.

wohodude100 1 year ago
Why can't Christians be satisfied to have the 24th and 25th? Why does it bother them so much that some people want to celebrate other holidays? Can't they share the rest of the month with others? Why can't they respect that others have their own beliefs? This year I wished all my Christian friends a Merry Christmas. One 1 if them wished me a Happy Solstice. To me, that is selfish. Nobody is stopping them from celebrating their holiday. We just want the right to celebrate ours.

damierrumble 1 year ago
@damierrumble Technically the Native Americans were immigrants too. They came from Asia and crossed the frozen land bridge which connect Russia and Alaska. I think they should drop this whole fucking immigrant bill thing (Can't remember what it's called) in Arizona. We're all fucking immigrants. Somewhere along the line one of ancestors hooped the border or got here by a boat. Why the hell am I talking about immigrants now?
AnxietyPro 1 year ago
@AnxietyPro they got to america first so they are not immigrants if you want to expand the meaning so much then technically east Africans own earth because they were here first and never left. this is not my main point though what I said was just because they were here at the founding doesn't make them deserve merit just because those ideas were here first doesn't make them right. America has gotten better socially because we moved away from oppressive ideals old ideas are not always good ones.
