your dad was obsessed with mumford well tell your dad if he remebers sesame street episode 2359 when mumford puts moustaches on everyonme would like to know what people did he put moustaches on im looking for it
Today I was reading about sesame street characters and I couldn't remember who mumford was, then I read the line "a la peamnut butter sandwiches", and the both the visual and voice instantly came rushing back to me. Something about that line sticks with you, that and the fact that he has no eyes.
I read in My Life As A Furry Red Monster (writen by Kevin Clash) that they expiremented with different puppets at the time, and unforunately, not many made it past one season, including this one.
There have been at least two other short-lived rabbit characters on Sesame Street:
Benny worked as a hotel bellhop and hated the "cute cuddly rabbit" stereotype ("Don't touch me....and the name is BENNY, not Bunny!").
Preston (who lasted only one season) liked giving presents to other characters; the presents were usually letters, numbers, or words being discussed on the show. Unfortunately, nobody else seemed to want them! :(
I'm reminded of the cartoon/song in Elmo's "family" discussion: "Rabbits are we/We live under this tree/And we love our kids, all one hundred and three..." :)
This is great! I like Professor D. Rabbit. I thought that he was very clever at letting Mumford pull him out of a hat-on one special condition. The ending was hysterical
From 3:12-3:15, how did Professor D. Rabbit do a magic trick without waving Mumford's magic wand?

Is anyone else convinced that Mumford is played by Bob Barker? I'd like to hear him say, "Here's the next item up for bids," just once.

The rabbit's name is Professor D. Rabbit. He was performed by Kevin Clash, but it sounds more like Richard Hunt to me.

does anyone have the one where Grover has to identify words that rhyme with Mumford? I loved that one!

That rabbit was pretty funny! He claimed to be 98 years old once, how many rabbit years are in one human year anyone know? LOL

I wonder if any Muslims ever protested the Amazing Mumford? "ALLAH peanut butter sandwiches!"
DiAnno13 5 years ago
I doubt that was their reason for banning Mumford (no joke!) in Arab countries; Islam also teaches that magical powers are satanic.

Another was Santa Rabbit/Easter Claus, who delivered Halloween treats on Christmas.

There was also Howie, a one-time rabbit Muppet performed by Fran Brill from 1970.

The prof must have about six hundred thousand great-grandchildren!

That reminds me of the "Rebels" song in Woody Allen's "Bananas": "rebels are we, born to be free, just like the fish in the sea..."

Mumfy's magic wand looks like one of those fancy-schmancy cigarette holders.
