I heard this song at Rachel's Challenge and it really touched my heart. It's been playing in my head non-stop because it has such a good message. They are YOUR hands, that is 100% in your control. You do what you want with them, whether it be to comfort, or like Stizou777 said, kill.
Love your video. Hands are so expressive. They are an extensision of heart and soul. They are tender & tough. Tiny & young or old & withered from years of hard work. So many images come to mind when I reflect on hands...a photo of grandparents holding hands, a grandson's hand near his deceased grandfather's at his wake, a wedding photo of the parents', grandparents' and wedding couple's hands, my nephew playing with and holding my hand...Hands: they are small but powerful...
this song inspires me when nights like tonight happens...and I look at my small hands and realize how much i can do with them that makes a difference to some one else...when they don't even recognize it...that's ok, at least I know...only kindness matters even in the most bitchy sh!t I find my self into...
I'm writing from Peru, I love this song and son many others from her, like foolish games and standing still; they bring me beautiful memories. Love JEWEL
i heard this song today at an assembly for rachel's challenge as a follow up rachel's challenge is very powerful and you should accept everyone no matter what
R.I.P Rachel Joy Scott and all the other victims of columbine
We had that about a month ago. Our school got into major fights a few weeks later so we had a reminder assembly yesterday as a follow up. the whole jr and sr classes stood and held hands.
your hands are you; no one can make you do ANYTHING with your hands; if they do, they are using their own hands.
will you help someone with those hands- a gentle sympathetic touch, play a musical instrument, or blow a kiss to someone? or, as Stizou777 said (there is a point there), will you kill with those hands?
Rachel's Challenge is a great presentation. I think her family is doing a great thing to help prevent this kind of stuff to stop in High Schools. Rachel's Uncle came to my high school in West Virginia and he presented rachel's story my entire community because he strongly supports what rachel believed
I found this version on a Christmas cd in my collection. The cd is called "Superstar Christmas In Rome". It's the only track by Jewel on the cd. Glad you enjoyed it. :)
rachel's uncle came to my school to talk about Rachel's Challenge. everyone cried. even the toughest guys cried before it was over. it was so touching and i can honestly say i've been moved by her. she always said she'd touch the world. i hope she's watching.<3 thank you rachel
i have changed. this day forward my life is nolonger the same <3 God bless you.Rachel said yes, they pulled the trigger),:create a chain, make a change..
no offence, but what did rachel say yes to exactly? She was never asked "do you believe in god"... she didn't even see the killers coming, she was outside on the lawn with Richard Castaldo.
You may be thinking of Cassie? Myth has it she said yes, but it was not her either.
A third girl was asked "do you believe in god" she said yes and was shot, she lived though
how do you know? where you there? and the story is that Cassie and Rachel were singled out because they were Christians and the guns man pointed the gun at Cassie first and asked do you believe in god she said yes and he shot her and she died then he asked Rachel the same she said yes and he shot her and she didn't die so he asked her do you still believe in god and she said yes and he shot her again and she died. both girls died for something they believe in and its a beautiful powerful thing
were you there perhaps? I wasn't, but i've read about people, and talked to people that were.
Richard Castaldo was sitting next to Rachel on the lawn, he was the last one to talk to her. The gunmen shot them without notice, witnesses have confirmed this.
You believe in articles published like the week after the massacre, sources that are unreliable.
Cassie? Hahaha, nope, three witnesses have confirmed that she was not asked that question.
It became a mix-up cuz Craig Scott heard someone ask "do you believe in God", but when the police brought him back to the lib, he pointed in the wrong direction, towards another girl (who was actually asked the question) and she survived.
I suggest you go read 'Columbine' by Dave Cullen, and not 'She said yes' which was published like the year after...
Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments. I knew that I was touched by this video when I finished it, but I never expected that it would have the same effect on so many. Thanks again. ~~ Lynn

Poverty stole your golden shoes
It didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But I knew it wasn't ever after
We'll fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
'Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There, ours shall go singing
In the end, only kindness matters
We are God's hands, and we are in his hands. Amen.

this song is about more than rachel's challenge.
your hands are you; no one can make you do ANYTHING with your hands; if they do, they are using their own hands.
will you help someone with those hands- a gentle sympathetic touch, play a musical instrument, or blow a kiss to someone? or, as Stizou777 said (there is a point there), will you kill with those hands?
the choice is yours.
