I think you have to consider that this music was something new for the audience. So most of them are rather listening than going nuts. + they are white ;)
@mattervalley That's interesting. I figured it wasn't in the States, since everybody in the audience is looking at them like they are from outer space! hahaha
THIS IS ONE OF THE PLACES IT ALL STARTED......RECOGNIZE YOU UNEDUCATED RAP FANS...LOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLLO.....FUNNY SHIT IS A LOT OF THE YOUNG GENERATION WILL NOT LISTEN TO THE SHIT THAT STARTED IT ALL....LOLOLOLOLOLO.....AND IF THEY DO LISTEN TO IT THEY WILL COMMENT THAT ITS WACK OR CORNY.....LITTLE DO THEY KNOW ALL THAT SHIT ABOUT WHO YOU SHOT WHAT CAR YOU DRIVE HOW MANY CHICKS YOU BEEN WITH IS CORNY......THE BEST SHIT I FEEL IS WHEN THE SONGS WERE ABOUT PARTYING HAVING A GOOD TIME...NO DRAMA..
@penorpls I DON'T SEE ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS AND THE RIDICULOUS SHIT KIDS TRY TO BE COOL WITH NOWADAYS. TELL ME, WHAT EXACTLY IS THE DIFFERENCE TO YOU? EXPLAIN TO ME HOW MUCH COOLER THE WAY YOU DRESS IS FROM THIS GUY. INCLUDE A VIDEO OF HOW YOU DRESS SO WE CAN MAKE OUR OWN JUDGEMENTAL COMMENTS ABOUT YOUR STYLE.
@xraydelta1 the difference is that in this kind of rap it isn't about where you're from what you represent(gangster)... this is like WHIZBOY1 said... about being together and rocking it with each other, no race was involved in this! yea in any generation you want to rock the freshest clothes and shoes so there is no diff there... but in style of music and its representation is diff.
THE BRONX CREATED IT , THE BRONX CREATED RAP , THE BRONX CREATED BREAK DANCING , GIVE THE PROPER RESPECT TO THOSE WHO CREATED IT WHERE WOULD ALL THESE SO CALL MONEY HUNGRY RAPPERS BE WITH OUT THESE PIONEERS AND OTHER CREATORS ? THEY DESERVE TO BE IN THE RAP HALL OF FAME FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TOP THE WORLD.
Maybe I'm just inundated with gangster rap, but I just can't get into these guys stylistically. It's like watching the Village People or at best any mainstream hard rock group. Fortunately, the music itself is great.
god i loved this song (still do) so inspiring -Sums up everything real hip hop is supposed to be about - LOVING YOU LIFE rather than excepting what society wants for ghetto people which is death and despair.Classic.
I "rapped' this whole track acapella in front of my entire summercamp when I was like 12!!!!!! big up tha jamz!!!!! They just don't write hip-hop (not rap) songs like this anymore!!!!!!!
I've followed HipHop closely for almost 30 years now and I still believe that 2nd verse ("newspaper burns in the sand' etc..) is the best rap ever written! prophetic, informed and an inspiration to a whole generation, big up Mel..
No Flash is the DJ the group was Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5. they split in 1983 then Mel took Keith "Cowboy"(RIP) and Scorpio and added King Lou and "kamikaze" Clayton Savage and took on the Name Grandmaster. Flash took Raheem and Mels brother "Kid Creole" and added Lavon and one more member Dude One Way(?) Anyway thats how they both had the name Grandmaster. They got back then Mel dropped the Grandmaster from his name. My fav Group & first Rap group inducted into Rock&Roll hall of fame.
The reason this is Melle Mel and the Furious Five is because Mel and Flash were fighting legally over the title"GrandMaster" This feud led to a breakup. Mel then started this live band in which I,Double-Z played keys and bass! The 1st Hip-Hop bassplayer, was a girl!Flash was NOT in this band!

I, Double-Z was proud to be the bassplayer of this band in 1985! This show was performed in Germany...NOT Alabama! I was with them for several tours!

This track sounds so much better with the live drums, and guitar! Not that im knocking the original!

No...Flash and Melle both have the titles of 'Grandmasters'.
Both were also in the same group.
