I always knew you’d have to be willing to die to do this job, but I don’t want to push my chips forward and go out and meet something I don’t understand. A man would have to put his soul at hazard. He’d have to say, “Ok, I’ll be part of this world.”
@Killermike2178 dexter's too soft for anton, plus anton is a real psychopath, dexter just kills bad people, i'd say anton wold ice him in a second, no drama.
Film is a visual medium, and the very first shots are the most important of any good film; they introduce the themes in the movie and the point the director wants to make. Here, we begin with a darkened sky: is something beginning or ending? (It's ending, by the way, according to the rest of the movie.) We have a ridge separating light and darkness, with a slight plateau in the middle, just as Ed Tom and Chigurh are polar opposites with Moss in between.
"Told me that he'd been planning to kill somebody for about as long as he could remember. Said that if they turned him out he'd do it again. Said he knew he was going to hell. "Be there in about fifteen minutes".
@shogun996 He's talking about how the killer said he (As in the Killer not as in Tommy's character) was going to hell with some casual disreguard. Be there in about fifteen minutes. He said that because he was going to get the chair and he'd die and go to hell. He reckoned he be there in about fifteen minutes. That's all.
@aegisgfx, I see you are athiest, or agnostic. Most criminals say they are "religious" just so people can pity them, or make them out like they are not as bad as what the media claims them to be, or just to make those who are sincerely religious have a bad name just to fufill some personal satisfaction (maybe their father was "religious" yet got drunk and beat them, or their mother treated them like they were worthless)
...or maybe religious people who believe there is an all forgiving sky father who loves them no matter what atrocities they commit has something to do with it? Whereas an atheist, who has no such unlimited forgiveness waiting for him will take responsibility for his/her actions and not commit the crimes in the first place.
@aegisgfx thats weak, i think religious people can understand that god gave us humans free will and we must be accountable for our actions. personally i dont believe in religion but i have no problem with spirituality if that gives someone comfort and helps them live a better life. as long as you try to do your best with whats thrown at you thats all that we really should be judged upon. not race, class, religion or any of that shit that we use as scapegoats for our actions
A prime example of why they cuff people to a fixed u-iron next to the seat nowadays. When I was in training, the police also said that when they have someone detained, you never have another officer stand directly behind the suspect. In Texas, that happened once, the suspect bent down, handcuffed, grabbed an ankle gun and shot the deputy behind him from between his legs.
Epic intro.
I love the accent and scenery.

Am I wrong - shouldn't Tommy Lee Jones have at least been nominated for an Oscar for his performance in this film?
2taggs2 6 months ago 5
@2taggs2 Agreed. I think two many people thought he was just playing himself. But I thought it was a subtle and nuanced performance.

@jvaish or "too" many people.

@tach69 I don't get it when he says, "Be there in about fifteen minutes."? Was that a quote Tom Bell was saying about the killer?

Plenty of real killers say shit exactly like this, more proof that belief in superstitious nonsense is what causes most of the problems in society.

@Theredsol I don't think anyone does. Sheriff Bell didn't. In my opinion, he didn't want to anymore.
