i watched this over and over again as a kid, it was one of my favourite movies. It was good animtion for its day. It is a movie that plays on your mind, hence why some twenty five years later i have looked it up,
I remember watching this I think on Nickelodeon.....? Even then I realized how cheap the animation was (how they kept reusing the same animation loops over and over again, just with different backgrounds)
I remember watching this on either BBC1 or Children's ITV back in the 80s. However, as I recall it was a series, not a full movie (as I now understand it to be). Was it a movie which was 'cut up' and shown as a serial?
A lot of people are saying how the bunyip scared them. Scared me and my brother 2. Even now sometimes we just randomly sing the bunyip song. Like seeing even kids nowadays liking this movie. Love my nephew singin the bunyip song and my niece telling me the bunyip is gonna get me, lol. Oh and I absolutely love the Platupuss song, always have, I think that is my fave song, lol.
I saw this on tv when I was younger but didn't remember the name of it. My brother is the one who remembered years ago and showed me on here. We do not have it on tape. I think it came on HBO or something. The bunyip scared the crap out of me too. My 8 year old nephew loves this movie. Probably the only 8 year old who has seen this video. I used to love when she rode in the Kangaroo's pouch.
Does anyone remember a film similar to this but possibly set in the futire or on another planet whith a boy wandering around with a big white bear. At some point the bear goes sniffing in a cave and gets pulled up by some tentacles and possibly eaten.
Thank you, thank you to everybody who said this movie used to freak them out!! When I was little I remember being so ashamed of how powerfully this movie affected me. Especially since my mom hired it for me because it was a cartoon about a lovely little girl who played with some lovely little animals. I'm now 27 and I can feel all those old feelings creeping back. I sincerely don't know whether to click on like or dislike.
I remember seeing this a few times as a Kid. I never forgot the cartoon, i'm not sure if it is the Bunyips song that sacred me a little, but i remember a scene Dot was possibly chased?, or maybe a creature in the darkness - not a song. I guess i'm going to enjoy watching this to find out. Thank you for posting this :)
this was one of my fav films when i was a child. my mum hated it because i'd repeatedly watch it. i love dot and the whale too and othe dot adventures but this is defo my favourite.
Didn't she have a little bird friend of some sort. I think I still have the clay sculpture I made in the first grade. I think it was from these Dot cartoons.
I used to watch it in French when I was little... but all the songs were in English... My father taped it but missed the beginning. Never mind I loved it anyway.
My children loved this, they are now in their 20,s.All those happy days huddled together on the sofa to watch Dotty ahhhhh if only we could go back .............
I used to watch it all the time! I love it! Unfortunately the cartoons nowadays aren't at all like that. I lik Dot & Ketoo too but the person who had posted it took it away. Does anyone have it?
my god! is so nice to see this movie! I can not believe it! For more than 13 years since I've seen! haha makes me feel strange to see it now! but I'm happy because I remember old times! thanks! =)
I watched this so many times as a kid....it just seems a little creepy now...Although 20 years later, the bunyip song still gives me nightmares, without having it seen in that long....
Bought this on DVD in the dollar aisle, and I've never seen it anywhere else since. I've only ever seen it and "Dot and the Bunny," and the first was always my fave. Glad to know it's up here for others to view, even if it's out of print.

Holy weird flashback. Talking like 28 years, back when the cable channel changer had a row of 12 buttons with a lever on the side to give you the additional 24 and 36 channels.

I think it's hilarious that a child was left in the outback. I would love to drive out there in my car to where she is, drinking a mountain dew. Then I would smack her in the face until she fell down and cried, and leave her there to starve. Talk about a productive day!
Oh my what what...? I was 8. showtime. i think it was the only thing i ever got to watch. except for showtime shorts before this of that kid getting in the bathtub with his pajamas on. this was so heartbreaking but i did eat alot of eucalyptus leaves hoping to talk to the animals.
Whoah...I (for no aparent reason) suddenly remembered that I used to see these films on VHS when very very little.
Mom would buy them for me and watch it together...she always brought me cartoons related to nature, music and stuff...
Man, this could be the very first influence that got me into making art (I'm into illustration and music) not to mention a huge respect for nature....I wish more of this stuff was made for kids nowadays.
Thank you so much for putting this up! My Grandad and I used to watch it all the time! I would always insist on hiring the video cassette from the store when I stayed over and he being the wonderful amazing man he was would sit and sing all of the songs with me! x x x
I too watched this over and over when I was a kid. The only part I remember is when the kangaroo is injured by the dingos and dot needs water but can't find any...until she does a bit of digging! I will never forget that lesson.

holy cow, I was searching for this for years - I couldnt remember the title of the movie and in austria nobody could help me because nobody knows that movie. I swear Im gonna cry.. it was my favorite movie when I was a child. thanks for sharing!!!
OMG. I'm gonna cry. I haven't seen this movie since I was a child. My Aunt recorded these for me when I was a little girl :( omg this reminds me of my Aunt.
It's strange watching something like this when you're older......the magic seems not quite there as it used to be but all the same you can faintly feel how it used to feel with a hint of nostalgia. It's a really strange feeling.
Couldn't agree more. And the first time you watch it after you're older, you're constantly going "oh yeeaah, I remember this scene now, or song, etc. When I saw one of the "Dot-running-through-the-forest-with-harp-playing" scenes just now it was like a vicarious flashback.
@Chenoan The magic has returned far as I'm concerned. Ok, not totally since i am an adult, but gods I loved this as a kid, and I still do as an adult :)
tanks, Realy Impacted me when Kid, love its Sensitivty, Kite Strong for a Kid, but totaly my Style, there are more of this Series, no? tanks a lot , hope it stays here
Wow. I can't believe this is here. I remember getting this movie for Christmas, and watching it on Christmas day after lunch, eating the smarties I got in my Christmas stocking.
i am not ashamed to admit it that despite of being a guy i used to watch it again and agian :) from 8 till 14 . i still had kept the copy of the cassette(not cds at that time) for my child but now i can show him on youtube :) heheh seems funny now
I am so happy that someone has posted this. I am currently writing a PhD. Candidacy on the Australian Rural... and this has always been in my mind. For a decade.
I used to watch this movie and bawl my eyes out at the end when the kangaroo left Dot..then i would rewind it and watch it all over again crying again at the end ha ha. I used to do this about 4 imes a day :S
Would i be right in saying it was a big aussie thing?? My godmother lives in australia and sent me the film when i was a kid!! was never out of the video player!! haha!!
This was my favorite movie when I was a child, I remember watching it when I was two. Thankyou so much for the upload...brings back a lot of good memories.

the world is losing it's beauty and it's nothing do with writers not having the ability, its just not marketable, no longer a targeted audience.
My cousin came out of the movie trade, due to artistic freedom, it's not just in movies but tv also.

@Chenoan I completely know what you mean! Thank you for expressing it so well.

@Chenoan The magic has returned far as I'm concerned. Ok, not totally since i am an adult, but gods I loved this as a kid, and I still do as an adult :)

@Chenoan Actually I think there is MORE magic now looking back. Great stories don't come along very often, some once in a lifetime...

I remember seeing this at primary school on a projector screen with my class.
I think there must have been a guy going around all the schools and showing the film on a projector. It was about 1982.
