I'm taking Mechanics soon. This was really helpful to get an idea about mechanics. I like it. I kind of enjoyed it while you were solving it, I'll be sure to check your tutorials. Thank you!!
How come when you was calculating the acceleration, you took into account the resistive forces of BOTH vehicles but then when you was calculating the tension in the rope considering one vehicle, you ignore the resistive force of the the other?
@Cesariono I don't like to ignore questions like this but it is a good question, not easy to answer in the written word. But. Listen again and I say, for finding the acceleration I consider the lorry and car as one unit, which as long as the tow rope remains taut and does not stretch, it IS one unit. But for part (b) I consider ONLY the forces acting on the car, OR ONLY the forces acting on the lorry. Not sure if this helps. But best I can do in written word. Mathstutor.
cheers mathstutor. ive got my m1 exam 2morrow so this was useful as clarification, because i did these questions b4 u did and then checked if they were right and they all were, so im pleased now 4 2morrow :D! i just wanted 2 know if u hav any c4 vids up because i hav that on the 15th of june and i find that a lot harder :(

@mathstutorbiz No, that makes sense! When you treat the bodies as a single body, F = ma can be applied. Thank you very much.

is the DVD available in other countries? I know all the maths methods and theorems are the same, but the exams and papers would be very different.

For the lorry's total resistance, doesn't the van's (750) count. Meaning the total resistance for the lorry being 750 +1850 ?
samydude 2 years ago
No. The resistance of the car is "taken care of" when using the tension in the tow rope when considering the lorry. Ok?

AHhh .... ok.
Thank you, for the quick reply.
Cheers.
