  • There's no light in the refrigerator. Funny since there was a hilarious bit about the refrigerator light in another episode.

  • Between All in the Family and Archie Bunker's Place they were on for 12 years. If people identified with the bigoted Archie Bunker did they also grow with his character? The series morphed into Archie Bunker's place when Jean Stapleton left, in the end Archie was raising a niece that was Jewish and joined a local temple so she could receive religious instruction , had a Jewish partner at the bar and a black house keeper, maybe America grew with him

  • Such good writing and acting. I miss shows like that!

  • you know, I'm getting tired of clicking on these videos of a hilarious show and I find a dozen arguments on whether Archie or the Meathead is right. For God's sake it's all jokes people!

  • Whaa? No top comment? MY TIME TO SHINE BABY! WOO HOO!

  • Christ....what's wit the tiny text? ANOTHER 'imporvement' on YT.

  • The show was most likely discontinued when it was discovered too many viewers began to identify with, and thus agree with, the lead character. While the character of Archie Bunker was greatly exaggerated, the core of much he said often made sense to many. Indeed, given the alternatives (Meathead, Gloria, etc), the character of Archie Bunker usually seemed the most sane.

  • @stewartx5 Sorry you feel that way. The show wasn't discontinued but rather morphed into Archie Bunker's Place. Archie was, indeed, a bigot on many levels and for you to say,"..... too many viewers began to identify with, and thus agree with, the lead character" leads one to wonder upon what you base that claim. The characters' sanity had nothing to do with it but rather a generational divide.

  • @frc1968

Are you really that naive? Even if you don't believe me (about many identifying with Archie), a quick look around this website at the number, still to this day, quoting Archie Bunker in a positive manner should certainly convince you. Compare that to the darn few quoting Meathead or Gloria (the generational divide you mention). Bigotry is a relative concept, viewed vastly differently by different people at different times.

  • @stewartx5 Personal attacks are totally unnecessary here. You have your view and I have mine. Your's is no more or less valid than mine. Archie is the most memorable character on the show which is why he is the most quoted. I placed these snippets here because I love the show and they are some of my favorite moments on All in the Family. I want people to enjoy and laugh not argue debate and be rude to others.

  • @frc1968

Where did I engage in personal attacks? I said nothing about anyone here, other than asking if you're really that naive? That was a question, based solely on what you said, not an attack. Heck, I don't know you personally, so could not possibly engage in a personal attack. Regardless, to avoid further offense, I'll end my comments here.

  • @stewartx5 You know, I thought about you tonight when I watched the 200th episode anniversary special on my 9th season DVD set of All in the Family. Norman Lear back in 1979 articulated the very same thing about the bigotry of Archie Bunker that I have. No.... I'm not naive... I happen to agree with the show's creator. I'm afraid you happen to disagree with Norman Lear. And to attack someone as naive IS personal..... under your assumtion Norman Lear, the show's creator, is naive too. How sad....

  • @frc1968 wellll, la---dee dah, then!

  • @frc1968 Archie was no bigot, he was an intellectual far beyond the dumbed-down society that was tuning in. The majority of people do side with Arch because he is right and commie are WRONG! So Stifle, will ya, sweet nips?

  • @stewartx5 Yes, it certainly was discontinued because the audience identified with it in a way that you find uncomfortable. That's it. Must be. Of course, it was on for 8 years...

  • @stewartx5 - 1/2 the characters had left by the time the show became Archie Bunker's Place and then Stapleton left as well. The show ran it's course as all shows do but it's not as deep as you suggest.

  • @stewartx5 Archie is the smartass that proves himself to be a hypocrital dummy though he thinks he's smart. He's very much like my dad...

  • @stewartx5 Douf!

  • @stewartx5 The show ran it's course that's why it was discontinued. Go watch the U Tube videos

All in the Family 20th Anniversary Special Part-1

    (there are 7 parts total)

  • @stewartx5 edith bunker wanted to be done with the show so they killed her off. the show is great and they should remake the show again. too many liberals would cry though.

  • @TheShootTruth10 Do you know that Christianity is correct? The world around us reveals that G-d DOES exist, and the historical evidence reveals that Jesus Christ really did come to this earth and there is overwhelming evidence that Jesus Christ really did physically rise from the dead. Jesus is coming again and the signs of the end times that were foretold in the Bible are coming to pass.

  • @marionetemanJ yeah I know it is. people dont want a moral code to live by because it cramps their agenda. just like people dont like the government telling them what to do because they want to do what they want.

  • @marionetemanJ shut the fuck up you meat head, YOU.

  • @stewartx5 - FRC 1968 is right, All In the Family was not discontinued, it just faded away.

Nonetheless, I agree with you- although the show was written by liberals (Norman Lear) and the character of Archie was exaggerated for effect, there was enough grain of truth to his statements to make the political debates between characters realistic. That's what made the show so good and yes, many Americans DID relate to Archie Bunker. In retrospect, his character WAS right on many issues.

  • The humour back then was better.

  • One of my favorite shows!!! If you read (or listen) between the lines you can see that the Archie Bunker character was basically a good guy--misguided, but a good guy and the show was funny as hell!!!

  • @kramer1959 I totally agree!!!

  • Anyone else opposed to building an outhouse out of bricks? I think it's better to use a material that breathes.

  • @mustang6172 Yeah or at least some form of ventilation.

  • Love the high def. Terrific post!

  • @87MonteCarloSS100 Am I?... I was married to man who said and did exactly what Archie is saying... He's not the only one I found. There are a lot more out there.

  • @peanutbuttercrunc100

ashatbula..... was def wrong IMO as well, but you're comment was really uncalled for. What are you, 12?

  • @sharonar22

I didn't mean that she was "wrong," that was the "wrong" word..... just that she took the show wrongly, IMO

  • Chill out ashatbulaparanormal

..it was a TV program and most intelligent people knew how to take it

  • Put a sock in Archie, get off your dead ass and fix your own self something to eat, pick up after your self!!!

  • I think those telling you to chill out and that you are overreacting are the ones who are overreacting and really need to lighten up! We all know it's a fictional show; that doesn't mean we can't bitch at the characters once in a while. Many times I've wanted to tell Archie to shut his pie hole. The people complaining probably just agree with him and his cave man ideas. He IS a great character on a great show, but he wouldn't be anywhere near as great if we didn't want to give him a big slap!

  • Tell 'em Arch!

  • she was such a wonderful actress !

  • R.I.P Betty Garrett.
