awesome man! My 9yr old wants to get his first .22. He wants an AR chambered in .22 Thats not happening lol, I have been looking around and did not want to spend an arm and a leg on a .22 this looks like a very good option. Thanks for sharing :-)
my first gun was a cooey model 39 single shot 22. made in Cobourg Ontario. Good ol' Canada made wood and steel. Got it from my uncle, the thing is a good 50 years old and still shoots like a dream! This vid inspired me to take it out and fondle it lol. Nice picture at the end.
YouTube is full of videos of some idiot "teaching" a newbie to shoot without proper safety/handling instructions and too large a gun and then laughing at the shooters reaction. It's always good to see someone introduced to weapons the right way. Your good sense will ensure your daughter will probably never injure herself or worse yet someone else due to improper handling. Well done.
@thebudgetarmory1 It always warms my hart to see youths interested in firearms. I remember my first .22, it was an old single shot bolt savage stevens long rifle from 1921, My grate grate granddad bought it new when it came out. I still have it, and fire it at lest once a month.
Don't worry, tons of kids are interested in firearms, almost none for the good reason, it's all M4 carbines, Ak-47's and some other guns that nobody ever heard of, I'm a bolt action/ lever action fan, and all my friends are like "Those guns suck they will get you killed in a war zone. Blah blah blah" well guns are not all made for killing :/
@puppymew The first rifle I fired was a single load bolt action (Sorry, I don't know gun terms. It was bolt action and had no external or internal magazine), so that's that I mostly like now. I know that sounds silly, but I just love them. There's a certain appeal to them that semi-automatic and fully-automatic guns do not have. They are fun :)
I got one for my daughter for Christmas, she's 9. She knew that we had gone to Cabela's. She took one look at the wrapped box shape and asked if I got her a BB gun. I said No. She said is it a gun of some other type? I quickly changed the subject. I thought the lock was really cool. But later realized that most bolt action rifles have removable bolts. Just remove the bolt and its as safe as a baseball bat.
this was one of the guns I really wanted as I was growing up, my dad never bought me any, not even a bb gun. In my first youth hunt, he handed me a 30-06 and that's how I started. think i should buy one just because they're so cheap and perhaps serve my kids in the future.
Did you pick up a new rifle for yourself? I can't go into a sporting goods store and not purchase something. Last week I went in search of primers ended up buying a .300 Weatherby rifle. I am waiting on brass and dies. I Can't wait to sling some lead out of it.
@500SWMAGOPERATOR Nope, I just got one for the kids. I wish I was able to buy something for me, but fiscal realities prohibit such necessary activity. That's quite the cannon you got there. Have fun with it!
My first gun was Ruger Mark III hunter and then after to match it up with a rifle, my dad got me a Ruger 10/22. Of course I can't carry the pistol and I'm very responsible and knowledgeable in firearms. I might know more than some people at gun shops! I've amazed people many times.
yeah i dont have kids of my own yet but i have taught my 13 year old brother the basics. my mom and dad are kinda anti gun but me and him are gun nuts so it works out.

Or what other rifle would you suggest. It doesn't matter on the round as long as it's bigger than a .22 haha
Great job! I remember when my dad bought me my first .22, it was a Remington Viper semi auto. Guess that's what started my love of firearms, plus it taught me safety early on. Your kids will enjoy this and remember it for their entire lives.
@txmalcontent I remember those! My family physician actually has one that he uses at the range on occasion. Hopefully we can send some rounds down range this weekend. Thanks for watching!
@lateprepper They're actually pretty accurate. We're not talking tack driver, but not bad from what I hear. I do believe that you can add a scope as well.
@MrRichardbryan Well said! They already know the four basic rules for firearm safety, thought my daughter knows them better than my son. That's one of the best reasons for starting them young. Thanks for watching!
@brotherskeepers111 Hey, you were my inspiration! Great dads just think alike. And for us, that's just WAY too scary. LOL! We'll get together again soon!
@Glockster42 It can be hit or miss, but there are some regular vendors at the shows in this area that can be counted on for good deals on different things. After a while, you pretty much know who to go to for certain things. Thanks for watching!
@xmike8259x That's a good age to start. I thought of getting one for my daughter when she was younger, but my wife wanted to wait until my son was older. Thanks for watching!

Very cool, Ed! There is nothing like creating great memories for your children. I try every day to be a better Father to my children. They are my pride and joy...I can tell you feel the same for yours. Awesome gift, from an awesome Dad!
@stlrayedwards You know, that's all we can do. We pray for wisdom, teach them to do right, and just love them with all our hearts. If we do that, then we've done all we can. You keep doing that, and you'll be on the right track!
@auradud3 Thanks! Some stuff is still higher priced at gun shows, but there are still some great deals to be found. It helps to have a buddy along that also knows prices on stuff. Bk111 is no exception.
I got my girl one when she was 6. and she loves it! Got hers at walmart for $99 as well that was like 6yrs back. they do make great gifts and great learning tools.
@willwood487 Have you added anything to it yet? Knowing you, you've probably already increased accuracy to 1/2 MOA at 300 yds. with some of your own special tinkering. LOL! Great parents think alike!
@thebudgetarmory1 not mine to modify. somethings need to be just left as is. We did have a chipmunk awhile back we used to coon hunt with that we threw a laser under so we could shoot the coons out the tree and it was short enough to drop down the side of my hip waders! lol
@iRockGlock I tell you, when I was younger I couldn't imagine having children. Now, I can't imagine life without them. I couldn't wait till my daughter was old enough!
@creekbed01 Thanks! I think the Cricketts are great first rifles. Bolt action, single shot, manual cocking, and bolt lock. All for around $100! On top of that, they're made in the USA! Thanks for watching!
Nice video! I recently got one of these to use in teaching a young man how to shoot and I ended up getting the red, white and blue laminated stock, figuring that boys and girls would both like it. They are pretty nice rifles with lots of build in safety. I hope your family enjoys it greatly.
@starrw0lf Wal Mart only had either the pink or the black. I would've gone with something like what you did if the option was available. Thanks for watching, and I truly appreciate the fact that you are passing your shooting knowledge on to the next generation!
Very Cool!!! I have been looking at the crickets for my son as well and glad you told me about wal-mart because I was afraid i would have to spend 150+.
@kryptos7799 They were $107 a couple of weeks ago, but ours has them on sale for $99. I don't know if that's a permanent price drop, but I thought it as a great deal.
my father bought my mother a similar one from winchester back in the 50's when they were dating...i have it now and it will hit a bottle cap at 100yards with no problem...have a great time...
Those rifles are made in my home town, I grew up with the owners of the company, worked with them when it first started, and now it is still making the Crickets, and you should see the stocks they make now, too. =) Thanks for supporting the Cricket/Chipmunk line of rifles.
@brokor1 I really liked the fact that they were Made in the USA! I went to their website and saw all the available models and was duly impressed. They seem to be growing, and that's great to see. Thanks for watching!
@ammohead73 My pleasure! The only thing I can't do is actually teach them to shoot from inside the house. Now THAT'S where you rule the roost, bro! LOL!
Your kids are awesome! Regrettably I was honestly expecting her to be dissatisfied by the black stock versus the pink one and throw some sort of fit (like I've apparently come to expect from today's young people) but I was HAPPILY surprised to see her appreciate what was gifted to her! You have done an excellent job raising your children so far! Thank you for sharing this with me!
@Tenacious21 She would've preferred the pink one, but we try to teach our kids to be satisfied with whatever we are blessed with. They've both been good kids, so I thought the time was right. Thanks for all your kind words. I truly appreciate that!
I bought one of those about two years ago for my son and It was a great teaching tool as well as a great little accurate rifle..... Once my son got good at shooting I let him shoot my AR15 and now the Cricket can not hold his interest.
That's awesome! Teach them at a young age. That's whats wrong with the world today. Teach them that firearms are to be respected, not feared. It's nice to see someone who gets it. I tip my hat to you sir. My daughter is 2 and I can't wait til she gets older so I can pass on my love of firearms to her. Keep up the good word my friend.

Nice video! I recently got one of these to use in teaching a young man how to shoot and I ended up getting the red, white and blue laminated stock, figuring that boys and girls would both like it. They are pretty nice rifles with lots of build in safety. I hope your family enjoys it greatly.
starrw0lf 6 months ago
@starrw0lf Wal Mart only had either the pink or the black. I would've gone with something like what you did if the option was available. Thanks for watching, and I truly appreciate the fact that you are passing your shooting knowledge on to the next generation!

Very Cool!!! I have been looking at the crickets for my son as well and glad you told me about wal-mart because I was afraid i would have to spend 150+.
kryptos7799 6 months ago
@kryptos7799 They were $107 a couple of weeks ago, but ours has them on sale for $99. I don't know if that's a permanent price drop, but I thought it as a great deal.

Tenacious21 6 months ago
