  • potty mouth

  • This game pushed the c64 to it's limit, sometimes I swear beyond. The music, gameplay and variety were awesome! One of the few gory games back then too.

  • Now I know why this game is called "torture"

  • Class......i think this came out around '92....hope Nintendo put it in their Wii shop along with all the other RETRO GAMES they release every week for download from their catalogue

  • Yay Creatures 2!

Yay Commodore Format's Diary Of A Game!

    Yay Apex!

  • An amazing game. But you make this game look harder than it is.

I'll admit that Creatures 2 isn't an easy game, but it's definitely possible to finish without cheating after a bit of practice. You can rack up some lives on the Interludes.

The Demon Screens were awesome; loved the music in those!

  • thats THALAMUS not thamalus jeeze..

  • must agree best looking game on the 64 and one of the best to play and the music was good too

  • THAMALUS?

the game itself is great, though.

  • @kingamuza yeah thats wrogn isnt it. I thought i had been pronouncing it wrong all these years!

  • Have to agree. It was more fucking luck then judgement he completed the first level

  • The Brummie accent is the worst in the world. This fella was sending me to sleep just listening to him.

    What the fuck is 'Feck"?

    Terrible

  • i love creatures II - greetings from germany - c64 the best, forget the rest :)

  • had 2 use the infinite lifes cheat though lol

  • i had creatures 1 , it was total heaven 2 play , brilliant

  • you are fucking horrible at this game.

  • A great one indeed. This game should never be forgotten!

  • creatures 1 and 2 were both classics.

  • No you are wrong, I already mentioned in a previous post that I love new games just as much as the old as long as the game is genuinely good. Creatures on the Amiga. Reality is I owned an Amiga for years and I used to own Creatures on it and it was crap. I am not saying the Amiga was crap. I loved the Amiga. But Creatures on the Amiga was crap, on the C64 it was a classic.

  • You still haven't given any real concrete comparisons as to how the C64 version could possibly be superior. I've already established that the graphics on the C64 look like a shit stain, and that is just a fact.

  • Fair enough that the Amiga version had a higher resolution and SLIGHTLY better graphics. It was not exactly a graphics leap of epic scale! They only slightly improved the graphics. But they made the Amiga ver more serious and less cartoony which ruined it. Also the music on the C64 ver was infinitely better. And the gameplay I cannot provide anything concrete because it is just my opinion vs your opinion. And thats all it is, opinion. Neither is fact just personal preference.

  • any chance to get this for iphone?

  • looks cute,but whats about it? ^^

  • This didn't even exist on the Amiga!

  • TheNilvarg, I remember the Amiga version of Creatures and it was terrible :-( I was well disappointed because the C64 version was so amazing I had high expectations for the Amiga version. But it was clearly rushed, the graphics were crap (considering it was an Amiga), and the gameplay had just lost its magic. Big shame :-( Im still a big Amiga fan but Creatures was a disaster for it :-(

  • That's terribly wrong. The graphics were completely maladapted for the Amiga, and the music had lost all its charm. I still played the C64 version even after I got the Amiga version.

  • Well, you fear change.

  • There are a bunch of amazing amiga games but Creatures isn't one.

  • You can't look at this 8-color uber-pixellated crap, and look at the Creatures screenshots on LemonAmiga, and tell me that this actually looks better.

You're just afraid of change. Sure, this version looks like shit, but it's old, so that somehow magically makes it better...

  • I do not fear change. I am currently playing (admittedly getting my arse kicked) Stalker: Clear Sky and I am loving it (just as much as Shadow of Chernobyl). I was simply stating the truth - CREATURES (and I have played both versions) C64 version was/is an all time classic, Amiga version was a poor effort.

  • You can't give any reasons as to how the Amiga version is inferior. If you compare them side-by-side, the C64 version looks like someone smeared shit on a computer screen.

  • TheNilvarg, The Commodore Amiga version looks sterile to me and completely lacking in charm. It seems like no love was put into its development. Some games work less well on a superior system. You are obviously not sensitive to that. Obviously the resolution is higher on the Amiga, but do you really feel the need to have to state the bloomin' obvious?!

  • So, it's just a mindless, emotion-based opinion? I thought so.

  • Getting emotional about a game goes to show how excellent the game was. Creatures on the C64 was unbeatable. The programmers just did a lazy port to the Amiga. When the games programmers / developers do not care about a game they are working on you get a really crap game and thats what happened for the Amiga version of Creatures.

  • No, getting emotional about someone pointing out the REALITY that the original version of a game looks like shit, and that the remake looks far superior, just means that you're irrational and can't accept new things.

  • Comment removed

  • The graphics do indeed look much better on the amiga conversion, but the game was unplayable on the amiga, they spent the time converting and upgrading the graphics, and lost the feel of the gameplay completely. Something even the popular amiga game mag at that time, totally aggreed with. "A bad conversion of a C64 classic" was the tag I think for that review. The amiga version had such bad samples of the c64 sid music that it was a joke.

  • haha you suck on the first level =D, i wonder if you could finish the last one xD that is the hardest in this game =p

    btw, cool video ^^

  • lol, I still have this in the shed, rofl.

Shame my old C64 is dead.

  • super game

  • Christ, I played this tons of times in my younger days o.0 Awesome memories, thanks for the flashback ;)

  • Clide Radclif Exterminates All The Unfriendly Repulsive Earth Ridden Slime = C-R-E-A-T-U-R-E-S

Funny video, your bad at this game lol I remember the first one very fondly indeed.

  • I loved this game back in the day, me and my brother could do all but the last level.

You made this game look alot more difficult than it was. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it was because you were using a keyboard and not joystick.

  • I loved this game, briliant graphics and sound, but the game play is a bit annoying, i would give this an 8, btw what emulator do you use for this? I use WINVICE

  • All C64 games was difficult in comparation to nowadays games. I loved this one, it's graphics was wonderful.

C64 was the only machine which I programmed under assembly, but i dont remember anything :)

  • almost best game ever

  • oh my lord! hard? this is the best game for going back to over and over again!superb piece of software! Clyde Radcliffe Exterminates all the unfriendly repulsive earth ridden slime!

  • Um if i played a game that was so annoyingly difficult i wouldn't give it 10/10.

    impressive game though.

  • Oh yes!!! I agree wholeheartedly with your comments on this. It is a masterpiece. It was the reason i picked up another c64 on ebay bout 6 months ago ha ha!

  • I'm gonna give that fart..... an 8 out of ten!

    Gooood byeeeeeeeeeeee

  • We're convinced over on the Retro Gamer Forum that you break wind about 15 seconds in this review!

It certainly makes an 'interesting' addition!

  • cheers for reviewing this paul, glad you think to same as me. One of the best, if not the best game for the c64.

Clyde Radcliffe is the funk too :)

  • A weird twist i love so much about this masterpiece - its cute and gory at the same time! Like a cartoon with balls of steel! Absolutely love this game

  • @paulisthebest3uk You right!! masterpiece!

Great review ,but you must practise skill...:(

  • one of my favourite c64 games, and one of the most technically amazing games on any system. I actually thought it was more fun with the infinite lives cheat on because it's so hard. To get the cheat on the c64 you had to wet your finger with water and then rub the joystick port, which i though was pretty original!

  • You just jogged my memory about that - wayyyy back in the day i remember reading that in zzapp! 64 magazine and i couldnt believe it i thought it was an hoax - i think its a slightly contraversioal cheat though - shorting the pins on a joystick port to enable a cheat - its not really damaging to the computer but its quite weird so to speak lol - as for the game - top notch!
