New York, Chicago, whatever US city you come from give up your dreams of hosting the games. In America you have hosted the games too many times to remember that the rest of the world actually exists. So yeah London may have hosted the games twice before but the last time was in 1948, so lighten up. New York only got through ONE round of voting. London won all but one round so we have a clear winner!
is feel the games shouldnt be held in america in 2016 they have been there in 84 and 96 i am backing rio, maybe america come 2020 thiugh also i feel it time for an african nation to host it i think currently that could only be south africa but still why not no african nation has held the games
It's too late for 2016 now. The application deadline past months ago. Chicago, Tokyo, Madrid, Rio, Doha, Prauge, and Baku are bidding for 2016. The list will be shortened to the best 3-5 bids early this summer.
I hope Chicago looses so that NY could possibly go for 2020.
i have to disagree with some of you, i think this was a great commercial. Yes, it did not entirely focus on the sports, but it did focus on the cultural aspect of New York, a very essential part for candidate cities as a way of distinguishing themselves from other bidders. Now, if they had made a second part, a similar one, but this time showcasing the sports themselves....then it would have been a spectacular ad.
London has hosted 2 times. I understand that we (as a nation) have hosted a butt-load more, but come on England. We know you got more than one stupid city. What;s wrong with Manchester or Edinburgh? Or..uh.. Not-London. New York's had olympic written all over it and an Olympics in the worlds greatest, most diverse, largest city is inevitable. So have your little fun England. (but thanks for beating paris.)
Sour grapes anyone lol, and also its not just in London it all over the country they have already started preparing near me in south west England. "an Olympics in the worlds greatest, most diverse, largest city is inevitable" yes that's why its in London
Manchester and Birmingham both made bids during the 80's and 90's. Didn't go so well. They chose London simply because it was/is the strongest candidate.
A: NYC isnt the largest or most diverse city in the world. B: NYC isnt even the world financial captial in the world anymore (London is). C: The reason we put London forward is due to like 40 million people living in th "south", there for the government decided on London (as it would please more people). England doesnt need to impress the world...th very least not an American.
B. actually never was correct. Try typeing in "london capital of the world" in google. You'll notice how almost every article has a title that ends in a "?"... "Is london the new capital of the world?" This is because no one is totally sure, however if you READ those articles and research it, youll find most people think NEW YORK is PROBABLY still in the lead.
And even if you read the full report, it states london will surpass New york in 10 years if its regulations arent changed.
thanks for showing me that though, as since I am apparently smarter then the person who wrote it, and how the report is conversial and conflicting with New York's, it will be removed.
Yes, the incorrect one will be changed, Im guessin the NYC one. Either way my city has been the political, economical and financial capital of the world longer than NYC has or ever will have. Soon Chinese cities will be knocking on th door of NYC to push it further down th list - just how now the largest american bank in the world is 5th... behind 3 chinese an 1 british (the british one is based in london, go figure).
Lets hope you are "smart" enough2 relise that LONDON was chosen...not NYC
Oh... an my favourite part of being in NYC with my dad on business is not only the office that backed onto another office, the black man we saw shitting in th street or the humid, sweaty, uncomfortable "subway"...
"and the 2012 olympidad is awesome to the city of... LONDON" - aaaaaaah, wonderful. lol!!
"According to a study by International Financial Services, London is still the world's second financial capital after New York, despite its more flexible regulations and tax advantages, Cinco Días reports. New York runs 40% of the total global assets in funds while London controls only 20%, according to the report."
LOL it actually links to londons own website. RIIIGHT.
You need independant studies for the references to be used in wikipeida, and look, everyone who put them there spelled "center" as "centre" hmmm, smells british to me. :P
Well I noted it on wikipedia and fixed it. Thanks for showing me.
You brits need to get over yourselves, stop flooding the net with inaccurate information, London is not the worlds financail capital and probably never will be.
It IS one of the big three, its number 2. behind New York most likely. Tokyo is third.
And if you define culture by how ethically diverse a city is, with the most forign born, youre worng again, as 36% of New York's pop is foreign born, compared to London's 31%.
And yeah, it's the 6th largest economy, New York is 2nd, but projected to become the first.
A little research would make you seem less dumb you know. :)
Oh my god. its 1:05am and I have like 20,000 notifications from you... even if london isnt the worlds financial capital, its still one of the big three... an I doubt VERY much that if it is second, it is far off for the question to be put forward.
Either way London is more cultured and has more visitors than NYC... zzzzz Im bored now PLEASE...!!!
An americans need to get over themselves... soon youll be knocking at Europes door when China is number 1.
"According to 2005 estimates by the PricewaterhouseCoopers accounting firm, London has the 6th largest city economy in the world after Tokyo, New York City,"
LOL its a much smaller economy then New York but you think its a larger financial center. Ger over it.
And youre obviously biased, as your posts smell or pure ignorance. So I hope i teached you something today, hopefully more people will learn from my posts as well.
Ok so now london is 6th an not 2nd? this is the curse of the internet... people like you can google anything an get what ever you want. You have to look into how each study measures the term "largest"... Its cute how you care so much...
Either way, London doesnt need to be number one to be the best city in th world... just a bonus that it is! yay.
Y wud London want2be NYC? Did u not get my last posting? a HUMAN was SHITTING?

London can build skyscrapers (an is doing) but no matter what... NY cant get buildings from 1080.
Then how do you define "Culture"? Being "cultured" is understanding the different ways of life around the world, and how better to understand that then haveing a large foreign born population?
I'm not argueing which city is "better" That argument is pointless, what im trying to do is educate you on what is factual and what isn't.
There is a reason New York City is the most famous and well known city in the world, and it's definetly not because it sucks.
I define culture as a rich traditions, theatres, history, architecture, famous people, places, varied areas... not zoned or confined like nyc.
diverse population is just one part of that anyways... sorry if i sound childish... I jus didnt expect such a crazy response, in my eyes london is th financial capital or soon will be £100bn of construction an the olympics will help with that.
On th financial side... depends how you measure it... sure there are measurements out there when london is number one... even if its second then great, I doubt its far from being first.
Please, dont compare montreal an canada to London an Britain. No offence to canadians but you cant compare the financial clout of the two.
Seeing as you know so many figures... maybe you should work for montreal or nyc? Im sure london can coup without you, sorry.
Those measurements were proven to be highly substancial.. Dude, you just said you dont do any research, if you do, I wouldnt have to be explaining any of these to you. :P
It's not just montreal, do a search for "olympic debt" and youll get 100s of articles about large cities economically destroyed by the olympics. It's one of the reasons I never wanted them in New York, and a large reason why the olympic stadium was voted down by the public.
Lol! its true... all the new yorkers in London seem to always start their sentances... "well in nyc.." - because they are rude. maybe its because they are guilty because they now live at Canary Wharf, Canary Riverside? haha.
My favourite part of NYC was the 12 lane motorways and endless suburbs... Im british, alas am not so polite, haha.
Endless suburbs. yes actually, If you count New York's metropolitan area, its ranked the largest in the world in size (17,000km) and as high as the SECOND most populated in the world. (behind tokyo)
Dude, I've been to london. It was a nice city, I'm not hateing on it. I just wish the food there was eadible.
But I dont see anything that distiguishes it from other european cities. It looks the same to me. And I've been to a handful of cities.

Every other european city? americans! buildings, layout, history,WEATHER!! Paris, Rome, Barcelona,London? None are the same.
NYC was ok,no surprises, big offices, which is ok. But any other city in th world can build offices, lol,nyc cant build a collessum, cathedral or even a tower you used to kill kings in, lol.
Not going2comment on food comment, ur AMERICAN, lol
Well, its a well known fact that London has terrible food. Most tourist books mention it in one way or another.
And yes, metro area. EVERY city has a Metropolitian Area. For London, it would be called "Greater London" as in, boundries that extend out of London itself, but still are counted toward total population.
It says you are a comedian, I hope so, I hope this entire time you've been jokeing. lol.
It must have taken you a long time to read EVERY tourist book... the ones I own dont say it. Camden Dock and the west end are beautiful... cant really come from an american, a country that has one cheese, thats bright yellow.
Great London... sounds so much nicer than "New Yorks metropolitan area"... my god mothers door number is 12890... I was wowed at every turn.
Actually we tried that route, we lost to Sydney with Birmingham I think it was and we lost to Barcelona with Manchester. I don't think those are for certain the right games but we have definitely bid before with those two cities.
The truth is they're not internationally renowned cities like New York, Sydney or Barcelona, so we have to go with our capital city.
And believe me, it was our pleasure to be the French. :P
@lordofwrath88 The British attempted 3 times to stage the games before the 2012 London Olympics with Birmingham 1992 and Manchester bidding for 1996 and 2000. They both failed. It was only Manchester's successful hosting of the 2002 Commonwealth Games that convinced the British to try again. London seemed like the logical choice being with the best infrastructure and all, but a slight set back was they backed out in hosting the 2005 IAAF World Champs cause they couldn't build the stadium for it.

Why say NYC had it all because it's the world's most diverse and largest city??
Olympics is about people from all over the world coming to a place, enjoying the culture differences and spirit of sport.
Look at how much Beijing has progress because it's going to be an Olympic city!
I suggest u do some research before saying other cities are not good enough.
Definitely will go to the Beijing O and London O~~ Looking forward to both~
