some ships had more than 200 but that was rare and most of em never went out to war or sank in the harbor,the ones that did go out didnt do that much damage but scared the shit out of there enemys.

Completely inaccurate. I've played Imperial Glory, and it is way behind the Total War saga. Ever since Rome: Total War, everything from the game map to the real time combat has been taken to a level not seen outside the total war games. You also can't compare this game to coh or most other RTS games, given that you are building an empire, not fighting the same battles over and over again on the same pre-made maps.

I assume by "modern" you mean with 20th or 21st century technology. The answer is no. Modern warfare does not allow for empire building due to nuclear weapons and the sheer size of the human population in the "modern" era. After WW1, armies no longer met on the open field for combat.

I know you can but I love the variety of melee weapons like axes, swords, two handed swords and so on and not a bajonet on a gun and a sword on cavalry.

Amazing! Empire is basically a couple games wrapped up in one. I remember seeing some games in the past try naval battles, but this really is the best. We also get to play with ground units, cannon and cavalry, and an empire building campaign on top of everything.  A great next-gen RTS game!
