  • Jesse Jackson a Tom??? What have YOU done for African Americans that can come close to comparing to what Mr. Jackson has done for his race? And what does being a Mason have to do with anything?

  • Jesse Jackson is such an Uncle Tom. Youre Boule, a 33rd degree freemason. swo stop playing us.

  • i think instead of receiving reperations we should put all that money into the community so we can sustain wealth over a period of time

  • Towards the end someone made a valid point. How can you host a black event supported by white corporations. And Tavis and Jesse defend this because they want the money white folks give them. A corporation is owned by stock holders not the people who purchase its products. If you keep thinking this way black people voices will never be truly heard. This is ridiculous and Tavis lowered the prices most likely to make more money. And the excuse he gave for not charging blacks was weak.

  • Are you sure you don't mean "white people" you are brain washed and need to study the TRUE Anerican history

  • THe American black is a pathetic group of people with little iniative other that taking from others.

  • Ignorant statement made . Our ancestors paved the way for this country to be weaved into what it progressed to be today. It's about acknowledgement and

forgiveness of ignorant people such as yourself.

  • yeah to the uppity black people, racism no longer exists and slavery is a thing of the past. they got their amerikkkan dream so their kool with themselves and if u cant make ur conditions better then its something ur not doing rite. i am on Sec 8 and its some bullshit but im using it as a stepping stone. soon as i got it, i went back to school and i will b done next may then im transfering to get a bachelors. Sec 8 aint shit! its just to keep u down. u think its a good thing but its a trap.

  • I worked like a dog through high school. I earned my scholarships through undergrad and my fellowships through grad school. I never owned slaves. I never passed Jim Crow laws. My ancestors never owned slaves nor supported Jim Crow laws. I don't owe Black America one damn thing. To hell with reparations.

Give people education. Let them become productive. Give them a bright, sustainable future. But I owe Black America NOTHING simply because of American history or because of skin color.

  • yo ancestors did own slaves. u aint digging deep enough. its going to always be like this cuz blacks will always be seen as niggers and monkeys (as i've seen a lot youtubers refer to us) yall see a video on here of some black people fighting and ALL BLACK PEOPLE become niggers for the video that pissed u off when every black person in amerikka was not there that day. we will always feel the effects of slavery because society just wants us to.

  • Not at all. My ancestors struggled to survive on Sand Mountain in the Appalachian foothills. There was one, exactly one black student in the one high school in a blue collar rural town with a graduating class of 160. Slaves never lived there. My roots there go back to before the days of the US constitution, and I have the genealogical documents to prove it.

Reparations would further cripple Black America. The gains of just simply giving money aren't sustainable. Education is.

  • The danger of speeches like this is twofold. First, it imputes, intentionally or not, characteristics of the rich and powerful on people who are not so rich and powerful. Secondly it portrays all black people as kept down. I have many dear friends who are Black who did well, worked hard, and got ahead. It was hard for me, and it was hard for them. But we did it.

You should be wary of attributing things to any group of people that just aren't true.

  • Terms such as nigger and monkey have no place anywhere in society. People use these terms on youtube because it's a mask they can act behind to act like trash.

  • Were losing the respect for self . This is why we are struggling to renew the phrase "I'm black and I'm proud".

  • People should have no shame about whatever the color of their skin is. Especially black people. They have built and defended our nation alongside "white" people and people with many other backgrounds.

Our society needs to do the things that can help empower all citizens, but especially the parts of our society that have been underserved.

  • Even though he said his anscetors didn't. So stop making him the bad guy and make excuses to be an asshole... Do you know him/her?

  • mpmcd81 For someone so educated your argument shows ignorance.Regarding reparations there are many corporation's and institutions that benefited financially and other whys form the slave trade and owe reparations. No one is asking you personally for a damn thing.

  • When the government levees taxes on me to give to other people as reparations, you are stealing the fruits of my labor to give to you for nothing you have done, all when I did nothing other than work like a dog to earn the money. Government reparations is asking me to pay.

I support fully programs which will help minorities get ahead. Provide decent schools, especially in heavily minority districts. Make college free for minorities. Give people tools to create sustainable wealth.

  • Again the law suit is against coorporations and businesses not the government. The monies would be for foundations not individual checks. Funny you would use the term stealing the fruit of one's labor. You have a lot of comments on this issue but you don't know what you are talking about.

  • Obvious your not Afro American. Well

Dr. Julia Hare is not stating someone owes Afro Americans anything she believes in educating.(DR. Hare) You wouldn't understand the pain of another race .Were educating ,but the change for equality doesn't come as easy. Now if you look at the Holocaust , Jews are being compensated for the suffering of their ancestors and somestimes very well might i add. So education is the key for all

  • I know I'm not arrogant enough to say I will ever know what the pain of another race is. Neither would black people understand the pain that many whites have felt at the hands of affirmative action for many, many years now, and for sins that were not theirs.

But I can have empathy and want to see real solutions to the inequities that are present in our society. The best solution is to pay back the race in ways that will be sustainable, so that it can help itself for generations to come.

  • The problems that I see with reparations is that it hurts innocent people for sins that they did not commit. If the government pays reparations, it will come from revenue raised from taxes. That's nothing more than a redistribution of wealth.

But if you invest in schools and urban areas, make them attractive places for all people of all races to be in and help people help themselves, it's a win-win situation for everyone- Black, White, Latino, Native American, Asian American- ALL people.

  • And it cannot happen the way that it is happening in NYC, where gentrification is pushing minorities out of neighborhoods.

I just don't like the idea of things being zero sum games. They aren't. But if you do financial reparations in lump sums to black people, it becomes exactly that.

Many white people are victims of affirmative action, and these are the people who would further bear the burden of reparations. They would justifiably vote those who enacted that kind of a reparation bill out.

  • That's not to say that things don't need to be done to help Black America. There is absolutely no doubt about that whatsoever. And you'll actually find that most white people understand that and believe that when society strengthens and betters the lives of its most underserved, it benefits everyone.

But reparations aren't going to resolve the problems or provide for long term solutions on either side. Let's find effective and fair ways to do the things that justice cries out to be done.

  • Now Dr. Julia Hare absolutely tells it like it is. She has the right recipe for turning schools around. She's absolutely right about things like the illusion of inclusion, special education, and the like. I really agree with what she has to say. She hits the nail on the head, not just for Black America, but all America.

  • And yes, there are many lazy AA, Latino Americans and every other kind of American. I have committed my life to helping many who are now content with moving into Middle class homes with their Section 8 stipends. But that dialogue is really not appropriate for this video. We have to agree to tackle one issue at a time and stick with it, if we are ever to be taken seriously.

  • I'm sorry but when the dialogue goes to "how much money are you going to give me" the conversation aint going to go too far.

  • That is true. They claimed that there was no money for Reparations for blacks, yet we maintain the Jewish Holocaust museum at more than a million dollars per year. Native Americans are entitled to free college educations, and we are spending billions of dollars each month to liberate Iraq. But blacks are so divided and uppity that we it will be a miracle if we can unite and demand the money that is owed to our ancestors/families.

  • I have to agree with matuber. There are a lot of uppity A.A but the real problem is that there are a lot of lazy ones also . We can also get free educations millions and millions are spent a year in finacial aid but how many of us take advantage of this !!!!

  • I have several neices and nephews who searched very aggressively for any aid and grants available for blacks, but it wasn't enough to cover their education. Every little bit helps though. I think that there should be full coverage as it is with Native Americans.

  • The State of the Black Union dialogue has reminded me that I have a responsibility to my descendants (whatever culture they may choose to absorb), my culture of color, and the community at large, that the slavery mentality still exists but on a different level.

  • This is wonderful! Very positive.
