  • Complex magazine rated this, the worst song cover ever

  • It's songs like this that make you realise how much better rap music is than pop...

  • @regardretard1 Yeah, Public Enemy knew 9/11 was a hoax 10 YEARS before it happened!

  • I love this cover. DGAF.

  • I like this version and Public Enemy's.

  • All I need is my clock and my rocket boo-

    Oh.

  • They didn't even keep the swearing...just sad.

  • I wish people would just leave classics alone...unless you're doing a tribute show, otherwise, leave it alone.

  • oh wow......this is bad..

  • I managed 53 seconds of this. I feel raped.

  • This Is Badass!...For Duran Duran.

  • Haters can suck it, Duran Duran have and will continue to do what they please.

  • Sounds like Beck got with the backup singers from Stereo MCs & they all did a meth/heroin cocktail. Epically horrendous.

  • This is awful... Simon Le Bon is trying to phrase like Anthony Kiedis... the music is twitchy white funk. This is.... fucking shit.

  • Public Enemy

  • It makes absolutely NO sence why Tank You is the worlds worst album according to Wikipedia just because of this 1 song! i mean White Lines and Lay Lady Lay were good songs! So what if DD had 1 bad song.

  • OMG! WHAT'S DRIPPING FROM MY EARS? IT'S BLOOD FROM MY BUSTED EARDRUMS FROM LISTING TO THIS!!!

  • I was like hey, why is everyone hating, it's not too bad.

Then I saw the television performance video.

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

  • I don't understand why...but I like it

  • WTF?!?

  • so awful

  • Guys this is *1995* Duran Duran -- they ran out of ideas. It's as simple as that.

  • NICE NICE SUPER THX

  • good band, bad song. leave it to flavor flav.

  • This is great!!! Don't hate playa!!!!!

  • anyone who doesnt like this song is an idiot

  • I'm not even a Duran Duran fan. Like, at all. But for some sick reason, I really like this cover. It is nothing if not ballsy--they don't try to play it for anger (they know they aren't Public Enemy), they don't try to play it as farce (the song has too valid of a point for that), but they do make a very interesting, Beck-ish cover. Seriously, did you guys really want to hear Simon Le Bon making a note-for-note cover of Flava Flav?

  • Can't knock them for trying...

yeah, I can. fuck this, this is somehow worse than Flav was...

  • fuck this album!! this band don't have any respect!!! fuck!!

  • Honestly? I kinda like this. Saying that the original is better is kinda unfair because the songs are SO different. I like the original better, but this does bring something unique to the song... It sounds sort of like Beck, with maybe a bit of a Beastie Boys flavor to it. If Duran Duran made original songs that sound like this, I'd listen to them.

  • This cover is perfect for trolling Duran Duran haters :)

  • this is one of those albums I 'didn't get' 15 years ago, but am drawn to now....crazy, ballsy choices to cover PE, GrandMaster Flash, Bob Dylan and Lou Reed all on the same record...these covers are better and more imaginative that the crap that comes out of X Factor and American Idol by a long shot.

  • @alltim7 It *is* a ballsy choice but unfortunately, it sounds as if they were mocking the original. Also the song just doesn't work, so much so that they had to have noticed that themselves, which makes me think that the reason they left it on the album was to make themselves look more alternative. For the record, I like DD and I think that back then they were a credible enough band to do a cover of a band such as PE but forcing it the way they did suggests they were themselves insecure about it

  • @brodftw: By "Q" magazine. But of course it is a great worst album. Very...bizarre... :-)

  • This isn't as bad as rage against the machines version of fuck the police.

  • @borntoend94 i dunno what your talking about that cover is badass

  • I thought it was about the terror attacks, but am disappointed that the song goes back to the 90's.

  • Duran Duran is a joke :)

  • @tomyanafun fucking tool, you don't know shit

  • Of all the PE songs Duran Duran could have covered, they choose 911 Is a Joke? This must have been some slice of British humor.

Just going off the top of my head, She Watch Channel Zero may have fared better, but then again, perhaps not. ;)

  • yuk, this is terrible !

  • Full marks for bravery...yet no matter how much Simon Le Bon tells us, I'm still not going to believe he's a black man suffering racism in a US ghetto.

  • STFU HES SEXY

  • I quite like it. Though the music police's rhetoric is getting on my tits 'They cant do this, its like dylan covering daft punk' conservative musicians are the worst.

  • @easthousepinballwiza I agree with what your saying and also it takes guts to cover something quite away from their own genre of music, although Duran Duran did cover many genres, not a lot of bands can say that

  • what the what?

  • It sounded okay, not great, but okay.... then they got to the chorus.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not sure they get it...

  • Dam, this is sad

  • this is the real joke i think....

  • 9/11 is a JOKE

  • i dont think theres any need for put down for this album. they've been making their own music for many years is this was a chance for them to have some fun and do covers they've always wanted to do. So what if they make fools of themselves in the proccess, i dont think they, i just think their having fun. They deserve a break after 16 odd years of making music (as in before this album came out.)

  • asll i can say is....who let this shit happen....and who keeps givin them studio time. christ on a bike, its duran duran....any more of this waffle and im selling my fuckin ears

  • man, who raped you as kid?

  • your dad. but i gave him a reacharound as hungry like a wolf was playing...the pain, the sorrow...and he still owes me money for it, the wanker...., so you must be that little bit of excess sperm he scraped of my back....hows your defects?

  • is your bum hole sore after dad giving you it bad?

  • @goatboyste Me being a Duran Duran fan I get your point, I 'd feel bad if DD were covered by jonas brothers or shakira

  • I DO get IT! Incredibly wrong ! They were trying to be relevant, and took an Innercity Rap song and tried to establish some street cred for their pasty white life of privilege, and it backfired tremendously. But that is what makes this song so funny, and I play this song to offend true hiphop music lovers, and they all want to pop a cap in DD's ass...

  • pasty white life of privelege? there was not any member of duran duran priveleged prior making it big you know? just intelligent musicians who choose not to shoot people but write music because its more creative while not getting themselves killed, living in fear or worse- in jail. fool.

  • ha ha, brilliant, i take it lyrics dont mean anything to you then...as im pretty sure when you listen to NAY duran duran track, someones kids made it all up....worst shite i ever heard ever. duran duran sucked massive ass. and judgin by this...still do

  • This is a WONDERFUL cover / song, I definitely like the stylish Duran adaptation more than the original.

    .

You don't like it? You don't get it? It is you problem...

  • hahahahahahahahahahaha

  • Sounds like a fun project... the song itself is still good, but since it has been created by PE, I cant´t take THIS one serious!

  • Worst cover ever?

  • Fuck the police!

  • really really terrible lol godd.....

  • sounds more like the fun lovin criminals lol

  • Proof that some people make BIG mistakes in their careers.

  • I live in Denver, Colorado: 911here is a cover for the corrupt Denver PD.

  • not duran duran

    well... thats what i think

  • Well, I guess weirder cover songs have happened--among them William Shatner's infamous cover of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and Megadeth's cover of "These Boots Were Made For Walking." (Thankfully, Dave Mustaine shuns drugs these days.) I stopped watching this video at 2:22. I'll give the singer credit for not trying to imitate Flavor Flav.

  • why would duran duran cover this? it doesnt even sound like them, and usually covers are meant to pay tribute to a band that came BEFORE yours- this is like if the rolling stones covered a daft punk song.

  • Really? Johnny Cash covered NIN well.

  • @blueshotgun017 And that wouldn't be the coolest thing ever?

This is the most surprising cover I've ever heard of. While its not that great overall, it's really a good re-imagining of the song.

borntoend94, I haven't heard that cover, but I love RATM's version of Renegades of Funk by Afrika Bambataa.

  • @blueshotgun017 well, miles davis covered michael jackson and cyndi lauper; frank sinatra covered "something" by the beatles; paul anka covered metal songs; the list goes on and on. covers are not strictly limited to the newer generation. rules can apply anywhere.

  • @blueshotgun017 except not awesome

  • @blueshotgun017 Huh? Public Enemy is pretty much universally considered one of the most import socially conscious bands of the decade. Duran Duran are a really great pop band, but a much better analogy would be Herman's Hermits covering Bob Dylan--plenty of bands have covered later material when it merits it.

  • this cover is a joke

  • @monserga79 ... This cover is Great FuN

  • What the FUCK is this shit!?!

  • "so bad it is good"

  • This is awful.

  • haha i love this version! :]

  • I love Synth Hop!

  • Surreal.

  • Joke by name... joke by nature then...

  • Duran Duran licks Flavor Flav's nutsack

  • Discussion.

  • omg! this song is a joke! :P

  • omg... you guys in duran duran are a joke... if ya dialed 911, the police would come to help you 'cuz you're WHITE!!! you just don't get it... can't believe no one in your crew would point this out to you before you decided to cover this song... and RUIN it!!!

  • This song is great although Duran Duran usually sucks

  • Hearing them sing this gives me the douche chills. I am embarrassed for them.

  • this is horrible it sound like a person in pain

  • This is so funny, yet so amazing at the same time!

  • You GOTTA be kidding me!

  • This is got to be the worst thing i have ever heard. Experiencing this is like being buried alive, its that bad.

  • My god, this is fucking awful.

  • my friend and i were watching a movie last night and somebody banged on the living room window so we went to my room cuz we got scared...then they banged on my window...so we ran to the bathroom and locked the door and called 911....the person banging on the window turned out to be my mom....she fotgot her key..y she didnt just call me...i have no idea...but anyway...when the cops got here i imediatly started singing this song...lol

  • I used to be a firefighter...I put this on our phone system as our "hold music" one day...got in a shitload of trouble but it was soooooo funny !!!!!

  • I hope when I call a firefighter I'm not put on hold!

  • I never like to be a hater but please.....oh my god...I can't even slag it off it's so poor...shockingly bad...hahahahahaha.....I'm actually LOL for real......

  • this sucks!!!! what a shitty cover!

  • Read the lyrics...

  • Um dude it's not "9/11" is a joke. It's "911 is a joke" as in 911, the number you dial to call the police.

  • wow, duran duran coverin a public enemy song wit none of the funk enthusiasm and coolness of chuck d and flavor flav

  • priceless!

  • Voted the worst album of all time, can't remember by who.

  • One of the Duran Duran haters, shrug

  • well I can't say this song fills me with hope

  • Comment removed

  • @brodftw It was Q magazine.

  • @brodftw It's not that bad at all. I honestly prefer Duran Duran's cover of "Thank You" to Led Zeppelin's original. Blasphemous, I know.
