hahahah 4:19 his brain gets rocked and he goes to the wrong corner! Dude, keep your right guard up, he hit u wit so many lefts you should be beggin for a right
@aks39 He is a snap kicker not a power kicker who kicks thru his opponent. He has no power in his kicks. It's not his fault, at that time he came from karate fighting and they kicked quick, but lacked power.
@aks39 I have been in the martial arts for 30 years. I have seen him fight and have seen him in seminars. He is very tough, but lacks the skills of a world class kick boxer like Benny The Jet or Denise Alexio.
@aks39 You are not a martial artist I can see that. So I won't waste my time with a fan. You should take up Karate then study Muay Thai then you will understand what I am saying.
@clearcombat And why do you say that i am not a martial artist? Is that an observation too? Not trying to argue with you...just wondering how you came to your conclusions on a Martial artist that is clearly a legend. And Has World classe skills to boot. Have you checked his record? Have you been in the ring with him? Do you know him personally? The reason that i am asking this is because I do! I hold a Black belt under the man. I have been in the ring with him!
@clearcombat I agree and wouldn't aruge about Benny the Jet....Absolutely a world class Martial artist, and fighter!! Don't know enough about Dennis Alexio to make a comment.
@clearcombat And to say that i am not a martial artist is not a good observation either. You are wrong...I have been in the arts for 30 yrs. myself. You say that i need to study karate and take up Muay thai, well, been there and done that.....amoung others. Again, I wasn't trying to start an argument with you....Just trying to find out where you got your info. from....Have a nice day, sir.
Great upload, thanks! Dam that left hook from JL, feeling that over and over again could break down any fighter. I dislike the lazy, hands down style of BW. Looks like he is not as disciplined.
dam ppl..dont base everythings on what you read and hear about....or what other are saying....im sure none of you know BL personally or have see him doing what he do in person,,stfu....let the man rest in peace....stop talkin shit when you are not there to see it with your own eyes,,,dam...grow the fuck up....
Great video. Prob Coles corner shouldhave thrown in the towel earlier. This was Joes ccomeback series in the 80s?. Despite the reality of the UFC I personally find this more interesting to watch. These pka fighters of the 70s and 80s were great fighters combining high and mid level kicks with good boxing skills. Personally, Id love to see this back again as a prime sport on TV.
@Five5six wow.... stfu u ignorant shit and read up on bruce lee's life, lee was a street fighter before he was an actor, and joe lewis is not a fighter, hes an athlete, huge difference between fighting with boxing gloves and your bare fists. Lee's style was specially developed for street fighting
@fullmetal891 Burden of proof is on you, there's never been any proof that Lee was a streetfighter. Bruce Lee was just an actor who died from a drug overdose while cheating on his wife.
@Five5six Bruce was challenged on the streets all the time watch some of the bruce lee documentarys people talk about it all the time, he was also challenged by a walk on from the movie Enter the Dragon. You should learn your facts, Bruce died from allergic reaction from a pain killer not a overdose.
@damkrayzie No one 'talks about it all the time'. Even Inosanto won't go on record anymore about Bruce's fights and I just talked to the man last year.
@Five5six The truth is that it can't be prooven either way. Some people choose to believe the accounts of Bruce Lee's manny street fights while others like yourself see it as made up. The point is just like there is no real proof that Lee was a fighter you can't proove that he wasn't so the truth is you really don't no. I believe that Bruce was a street fighter and trained specifically for that. Street fighting with no rules.
bruce lee USED the prowess of a little guy & worked w/ lewis 2 build a superman. the best karate guys are chess players w/ a BRICK in their hands. BL & lewis plotted the future of MMA in the 60's. nobody has every done it better...
Uhhh, are you rewriting history now? Bruce Lee died in the 70s. The UFC started in the 90s. The Gracies brought MMA to the USA. MMA had been going on in Brazil for long time prior to that.
Bruce was great, but don't say he invented things he never did.
And don't say Bruce was one of the greatest fighters. He fought no one. To be the best you have to beat the best. List for great fighters Bruce Lee destroyed:
@BloodCompton because lee was a streetfighter.. not a tournament fighter. and actually he had a lot of REAL fighting experience from when he was involved with drugs and gangs
BL applied his FORM factor 2 a very smart very strong GUY in JL who was perhaps 70 lbs THICKer. look @ JL training materials 2DAY HE perfected beating the crap out of people, NOT points or sparring , beating the crap outta people & takin HEAT in doing it. UP close & personal. JL can TEACH what he perfected. Dr. BADass
JL & BL developed a kick ur ASS beat the crap out of people style THAT works @ 135 LBS & really THUMPS @ 200LBS. It isn't point fighting IT'S beat the crap otta the other guy.
joe Lewis is a scary guy, about his small stature and inability to kick- ask 6-8 ed Daniels about Lewis's kicking prowess.
I went to a seminar of his in 1972. He wore a checkered gi and showed us the power of the inch punch by having a senior student hold a phone book in front of him. One inch, the guy flew back.
guys I doubt if bruce lee could stand 1minute in a kyokushin fight man.............we wud get sweeped within 40 secs...............
dude bruce cud just dooo like movie fight scenes and he had fair speed too........but practically he cudnt stand a fight against kyokushin black belts....
People who say brue lee was weak, or fake or comments about him unless they are positive they know nothing about him....the man recovered from a broken back, his phsyical and phsyological was 110% he was INSANE phsyical shape....ever see the 2 fingure pushups? what about his inch punches? he was a pioneer and revolutionist as someone said he is a true legend his intelligence was superior along with the thoughts of taking qualities from every martial art he learned...R.I.P BRUCE LEE...true legend
Notice how JoeLewis does alot of punching for a MartialArt bout? It's because he knows the guy is taller than him and has the reach advantage of his kick to fend joe off and hurt him, so by coming in close for the punch range he robs his opponent of that advantage. MA is all about strategy and self awareness
Bruce rest a legend for evrytime. He has been a greath figther, and his style is inimitable like hes genious mind. The most pioneer of totally combact. Louis has been the first in history, to dimostrating Bruce combact philosophy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Materperry is right BL was nothing but a joke ,he was a comedian and kung fu movie actor.. as fat as martia; arts and knowledge concern BL never had any full knowledge of WT he had some but just as a hobby . you cant be a dishwasher and\ suddeny a master of MA ,,thats bull
Joe Lewis wouldn't agree with your douchefaced bullshit. Bruce Lee invented MMA. Joe Lewis trained with Bruce Lee, for nearly 2 years... you'd think that if Lee was a joke he wouldn't have wasted his time.
But you are forgetting one thing dip shit, not only did bruce mixed trained in all aspects of marial arts, lee was the first to mix the physical dynamics of martial arts together....now wheres your mum's phone number?...
What is ITF? Also, I read somewhere that Joe Lewis learned karate in Japan while in the military. Did he really reach black belt rank in about 7 months? Classes here are usually once a week, so if he did that every day, I guess he would have reached it up to 7 times quicker...
The ITF stands for the International TaeKwon-Do Federation. The ITF was founded by the late General Choi Hong Hi, after being kicked out from the Korea Taekwondo Association (today the WTF), for which he was one of the founding members. While stationed in Okinawa, Lewis trained in karate twice a day (two different schools), 7 days a week. That's how he got promoted quickly. I think Lewis no longer is associated with karate. Today he teaches kickboxing.
Bruce lee was the best fighter ever walked on planet earth. he always learned from the best teachers. from the beginning to the end. he learned from the great wong chun leung to geene labelle. he trained with the best and he created an own fighting style like karate kung fu or judo was. man create an own style and we can talk again.until today nobody beat bruce lee. he was unbeaten in all of his fights.sure he was never in a competition but his fights was more dangerous.fight 4 life or death
And Muay Thai Kickboxing has been around for hundreds of years long before Bruce Lee.
Other early fighters Bruce Lee could have fought to prove his BS crap about being the best:
Chartchai Chionoi
Saenchai Terdthai
Wehart Napapol
Ravee Dechachai
Kongdet Lookbangplasoi
Loads of fighters that could have killed Bruce Lee during his era. Bruce avoided the World Muay Thai Kickboxing Champions of his era cause he was full of SHIT.
In those days(60's and early 70's), there was no glory, respect or money for fighting Thai boxing champions, outside of Thailand and Japan. Lee was never a Thai boxer, and he never had to eighter fight or avoid Thai champions. As a matter of fact, it was Benny Urquidez, who lost to the Thai boxer, yet he has never acknowledged the defeat to this day.
Lighten up, I am not a Bruce Lee fan. So I have never said he would have been better than others,or something like that. But even with my limited knowledge, I have never heard of any fact that Lee was ever offered a fight against a Thai boxer. Thus, saying he avoided a fight against a Thai is not accurate. Personally I don't think he was shit, but it was his fans who made him shit AFTER he died.
He may have not had the trophies to prove anything, but he did die before he got the chance to show us. He did bring us the idea of using techniques that were logical and not out of tradition. He was also known by many experts and masters, even Chuck himself, to have one of the fastest punches and kicks in martial arts. Just because he didn't prove it doesn't mean he couldn't have.
Stupid arse, you never competed cos ufc wasnt around at the time. anyways the only martial arts competitions were only points scoring affairs back then, NHB sparring (bruce invented) was way more realistic by comparison.
You may be right. Bruce Lee may have gotten his ass kicked by these guy. Maybe. Maybe not. We have no way of knowing. But one thing is for sure. Through his movies, and his training, he did a lot for the martial arts. He helped put martial arts on the map.
Joe Lewis has admit he is a student of Bruce and he credit bruce is the best.
Another guy, Jackie Chan's senior, said himself in a tv interview: I take the first move but bruce's foot already on my face while I was just lifting my leg half way.
This senior confrimed Bruce kungfu is real, the speed is true.
Bruce Lee Mr Bullshit never was a World Champion, Yet he claimed he could beat anyone hahaha. Why did he not then fight Benny Urquidez who was World Kickboxing Champion in the 70s or Go fight at Lumpini Stadium in Thailand ? Answer Bruce Lee was Chicken Shit.
I agree with what you said about Bruce Lee being non-fighter. But putting him against Benny Urquidez or fighting in Thailand are pointless. When Lee died in 73, Urquidez had not started to fight in full-contact competition. As a matter of fact, even the PKA wasn't born yet. Lastly, whether you like it or not, fighting in Thailand was not financially rewarding. Lee had his family to support and other things to take care of. For that reason, making films were lot more lucrative.
Urquidez said he began his pro/full-contact career in 74 in Hawaii. Tommy Lee's World Series of Martial Arts was the very first event he fought as a pro. Prior to that, Urquidez had been a point karate competitor.
All the people saying Lewis would win Bruce in a "street situation" please read more on both of the people and their histories as well as philosohphies. Bruce Lee had advantages in areas like speed, strength, and athleticism. As well as the sense and drive to do practical stuff FOR the street (eye jabs, biting, kicking the groin)
HAHAHA SAS SUCKS. Paul Vunak yes he was in the Seals . But Bruce Lee was never in the service nor was he ever a World Champion. So go fuck your momma motherfucker. And fuck england.
Bruce Lee is simply the best, and that's why on even on a joe lewis video people still talk about bruce, NOT vice versa ppl tend to discuss about the greatest not just a pretty good dude, or so2
There is always someone better and faster. But not at the time and not when you win. You are the only one there and everyone else is just left to their imaginings and speculations.
all these people that rave about bruce lee, where is the footage of him ACTUALLY FIGHTING? At least u can see Joes skills FOR REAL!! Obv, bruce had skills, but he never fought in competition, so how can you say. Every1 buys the myths cos he was a movie star. Believe it or not there r better martial artists than bruce lee.
chuck norris who is a karate and kick boxing champion who uste to hand joe lewis his ass in sparring admitted very humbly that Bruce lee's martial art skills power and speed were far superior to his and anybody he has known there were countless times that people thought bruce lee was fake and they would challenge him and be utterly defeated bruce lee was about being prepared for a all out fight for real situations bob wall who was a karate champion admitted bruce could kick his ass
until i see i see it, its all smoke and mirrors and hearsay. Too much is made of the myth, no concrete proof. Obv the man was very talented and an amazing martial artist etc, but so many people who grew up watching the movies speak about him like hes a god when he wasnt.
WRONG - Bruce lee WAS the greatest martial artist of all time because apart from being jst plain badass, he was one of the fastest people ever alive and all martial arts are governed by speed. Also Bruce was so much more than just a fighter, he was a revolutionist and a pioneer in the martial arts like no other before or after him, therefor making him the greatest martial artist ever, ASWELL AS ONE OF the best fighters ever. do sum f***in research before u go running ur mouth off.
A)y do u have to have a rude & aggressive tone to your reply? No need 4 it, r u 5 yrs old or something? B)Ive probably forgotten more about bruce lee & the martial arts than u've eva known C)Im not saying he wasnt skilled or a great man im pointing out people believe 2 much myth & he was only human! d)when did u actually C him fight? Post fite of him & then we'll discuss it. Oh thats right, you cant. My point is people say how great a fighter he was when they havent seen him in real combat.
excuse my french. point taken, people r sheep and will beleive almost anything told to them, exagerated or not. although Bruce proved his abillities time and time again without having to lower his morales to the watered down glory of competitional fighting
As far as street fights are concerned just look at his ability. Put him with an out of shape slob with no timing or chin and no fight expereince and it would be no contest. If you know JL personally you can see this guy is cut from stone. Not all of BL "fights" were witnessed and many exagerated (No dis to the legend) but JL has the record to prove his claims. Anyone that has any question about Joe Lewis has not trained with him.
I'm a student of Mr. Lewis and he did not become an 8th degree in 2 years. He did however become a legendary fighter. He's actually my neighbor. Joe Lewis has worldwide respect in the MA world for anyone that knows anything about the MA-not infering that anyone here does not know.
hmm seems to be some miss placed facts here...lewis was a former marine who achieved 8th degree blackbelt in karate in like 2 years, he studied with lee...hes a legend and thats it...can't compare him to anyone in anyway
"I wish they would explore the realistic side of Bruce's skill in the street, rather than compare him to tournament fighters. I read some of the comments by Joe Lewis and he always compared Bruce to the martial arts image that everyone saw and yet the Bruce that I knew would have blown Joe Lewis, Chuck Norris and anyone else for that matter that acquired their reputation by playing the game of tournaments."
4get street fights, all i know is if it wasnt for bruce, joe lewis, mike stone and chuck norris would not of had the careers they have had. bruce got his hands on the 3 of them back in the late '60s-1970 and brought out there full potentual. he coached them for karate tournaments.
ps has anyone ever heard joe, mike or chuck give praise and thanx for bruces input, coz i dont think i have?
theres a book i recommend for u. its called (or roughly called, dont no the exact name) the 20 guiding principles of karate. it turned my opinion on karate on its ass. this book is everything i expect from any martial art. i dont study karate, mainly cuz i stayed loyal to jujutsu, but i recommend this book to every martial artist out there.
to the video: is this what a world class can do with a nobody? 10 min of fighting like a girl? joe lewis said biting is one of his best streetfighting skills. but he never acceptet a streetfight. he never acceptet any challenge. this alone is a sign of weakness. he taught bruce lee kicking?: hm i thought everyone told that the world. norris, rhee, inosanto go on and on.how could lee learn kicks from him when they only talked and not sparred.only from the videos?nah.that would make lee awesome :p
How many street fights had joe lewis in his life=? he doesnt accept any challenge. he got no experience in street fights. lee had a lot of it. now call me who was the real fighter when it comes to life or death? he can only fight when a referee is protecting him and cut every 2 sec the opnonents. he always said that bruce was a movie star but that doesnt make you a fighter. i think the real fighter was lee and not lewis. lewis is just a talker who wanted to have a bit of lees big cake of famous.
Hey geek. What's the big deal with streetfighting? Fight on the street is something you have to avoid at all costs, not something you brag about. If you are mad about the fact people give Bruce Lee very little credit as a real fighter, then blame Bruce Lee. It was him who refused to fight in actual competition. It was his choice and you cannot do anything about it. Instead you have to do something for yourself.
Thats cos bruce had nothing to prove by the glory bullshit of competitional fighting. he studied martial art as it was meant be, an art not a sport, Shaolin monks never fought in street fights or competition, but wud u say they are shite. and yes Bruce Lee did Kick fuckin ass in the few street fights he did come across
How come you're so sure Lee would have an edge over Lewin in a street situation? Did you ever meet or train with Lee? Fight on the street and any type of competitive fight are different. We all know that. You don't have to read what Lee had to say to understand this simple fact. Many non-fighter types use this as an excuse not to compete. I believe Lee was just afraid of lose face. A typical attitude among the Chinese MA practitioners.
he was an ordinary person that did great things and it is people like that, that inspire great things in hearts all over the globe. that was Bruce's great achievement - easy 4 u to naysay and doubt but mate what have u done for the world. Learn to appreciate great ppl
errr, if you read my other posts on this subject u prob wouldnt have bothered replying to that mate. I do appreciate all he did for MA and to inspire people. Im just making the point no1 has any footage of him fighting FOR REAL so they cant make outlandish claims either way. Not doubting his talent at all but he wasnt invincable.
Guys, relax. This is a Joe Lewis clip. If you want to talk about Bruce Lee, then go somewhere else. There's absolutely no way for us to know how Bruce could have fared against Joe Lewis or any other known fighters. So don't waste your time and energy on meaningless discussions. Instead just go back to your training hall to get yourself in fighting shape. Joe Lewis has much more to offer other than his training with Bruce. We should talk more about them.
yes.and thats sad because he would now a day shut his mouth. joe lewis technique, speed and power dont impress me. its same with chuck norris or bob wall. these guys are all good. no doubt. but bruce was the real deal. and thats my opinion and im sharing it with bob wall who saw them live in action. u know the people who saw them live face to face calling bruce the greatest fighter they had seen on on this planet. and they didnt say joe lewis is the greatest. that makes joe angry.truth hurts
and this guy wants to beat bruce lee. sorry i had to laugh. he needs more than 10 minutes 4 this black guy. bruce would do one or two punches and cole would be finished. same with joe lewis.u cant defend what u cant see. and bruce was to fast and to strong and his technique in 1972 looked so awesome . to compare it with such stif slow guys is a joke.srry. the only man ever who talked shit on bruce was joe lewis but he said he trained one week 4 this fight. bruce was training every damn day.
All of you who talk about Bruce Lee not going into these types of "competitions" are a joke. Bruce Lee wanted to bring forth "NO STYLES", NOT "KARATE BOXING" (what these clowns call "Kickboxing")...
But, the fact is, if you REALLY think Joe Lewis could take on Bruce Lee, an all around TRUE Mixed Martial Artist, in what is now considered a "cage match" - I have a bridge to sell you...
It's really amazing way too many people point out how Bruce Lee influenced Joe Lewis, or Lee was a better fighter than Lewis, etc in vertually every one of Joe Lewis clip. It's true Lee taught Lewis briefly, and Lewis gives credits to Lee for teaching him. But being a fighter is totally different matter. Comparing Lewis and Lee is like comparing Mike Tyson and Cus D'Amato. Lee was never a fighter, but had some fabulous ideas for martial arts.
You got it completely right. Bruce has always been very important to the world of martial arts, but he wasn't a competitor like Lewis, Benny Urquidez, Gene LeBell or Chuck Norris. People that put him on a pedestal and say he's the greatest fighter that ever lived are setting themselves up for disappointment if they ever go and check out the facts.
I'm glad there are people like you who can look at the Lewis/Lee relationship objectively. Lee might have been very confident or cocky, but never claimed he was the greatest fighter or anything like that. I believe it was Ed Parker started to spread Lee was, P4P, the best fighter of martial arts. As you know, people today know whole lot better than Parker.
And by the way. Bruce had a very small bone structure. If you ever fought with Joe, you would know that the man is very thick. Bruce, even though probably the fastest of all time, could not stand even one of Joe's jabs. If you fought him and felt even one, you really would be amazed and understand what I mean. These little China men would never go a 3 minute round with this guy, period. And if you think that a 130 pound man could, then he must have a pistol on him. That's the only way.
Dude, Joe Lewis was a student of Bruce Lee. Who do you think taught Joe Lewis how to train in a way so he could get as powerful as he did. And don't give me that 130 lbs. = weak bs. Bruce Lee's physique amazes many legendary bodybuilders including Arnold Schwarzenegger. And his muscles weren't built for show, Bruce Lee was above all concerned with function. As a testament to his power, one man who recieved a sidekick by Bruce Lee said it was as if he got hit by a car. Do your research.
get reall dude, like brucies one inh punch?do u think even massive hvywgts like tyson or lennox lewis cud send a guy flyin wit a one inch punch!!fake!!!exibition!!!brucie was a myth
No, clawfish, research boxing history and it's downfall during the 1920s.. punching power is all about anatomy, the alignment of your body parts for solidity, and not just how muscular you are, but how fast you put those muscles into action. Tyson is a boxing LEGEND, but as stated by Joe Lewis himself, even Ali didn't know what to do in a situation where a wrestler shot at his knees. My point is, these heavyweights didn't have fighting down to a science to the degree Bruce did.
Exactly... Bruce Lee DID get fighting down to a real science, unlike "the sweet science" known as boxing - Lee knew MMA decades before it truly "existed".
Talking about Boxing when referring to Bruce Lee's 1 inch punch is a great example of ignorance on your part when it comes to fighting, period.
Wrong the old master would mix style together and create their own style. For example, Goju is a mixture of white crane (chinese style) and chinese boxing as well as nahe te. This is what Chojun Miyagi used to put together GOju. SO did Kano, Morhei Usiaba (SP) the founder of AIkido. So bruce wasn't the first to do any of this he just got the attention because of his cinema.
While you are correct, you missed the point... not to mention that Bruce Lee was the first well known Martial Artist to move into what is NOW considered "MMA"... meaning using ALL aspects of Martial Arts, not just adding a few good moves from other arts and calling it something new.
JKD was a great example... look at his books from the 60's... they're decades ahead of themselves.
So, cinema or not, Bruce Lee was the TRUE pioneer of Mixed Martial Arts, as it's known today.
Ok do me a favor; tell me what is the point your trying to make because when you say "well known" lets remember he is only "well Known" because of his cinema (which were spectacular)! Martial arts were created through keeping the good discard that which doesn't work!
This is bruce lee's philosphy but he didn't create that philosphy. (that a Taoism and confusionism idea) Aikido is Aki jitsu and Ju Jitsu. Judo is jistsu with the more deadly techinques taken out until high black belt level. Ive already mention Goju. Ta kwan do is the sport version of Tang Soo do(I might have that on backwards) but both styles came from japan when Japan occupied Korea. To sum it up all Japenese style are a misture of Chinese style Wing Chun Chinese boxing etc.
As well as Kempo. So as you see every style is a mixture of a bunch of other styles and even bruce mentioned this during many interviews. That being true how can bruce lee be the father of MMA when every style consist of MixMartialArts. All he did with JKD was mix lots of wing chun with salvate,Judo, Hapikido, together and called it JeetKuneDo. Is that something new? hmm maybe, but The one inch punch was done by YIP Man and students for years. He brought MMA in the limelight but was not the pioneer
Many other desevere that title who came way before him! I give him a lot of credit for promoting the arts many master of today started karate (whatever style) because of him. I agree with most of those on this chat BL was unproven, we only of when he was a teenager and Wong Jak-Man and depending on who you talk to it ranges from BL barely winning to being a tie. You need a lot more creditials then that to even be consider the greatest Martial Arts of all Time. OSS
These boxers probably didn't delve into the mechanical physics that went hand in hand w/ fighting or why weapons evolved in the pattern they did nor did they explore other martial arts to better their fighting style. Bruce Lee is not a myth, though many myths have arisen from the legend that Bruce Lee is. Bruce Lee was legitimate, more so than you'd expect. Anyway, here is a good video of him in hong kong for your viewing leisure good sir :P. ( /watch?v=Hr-yyMHlgGE )
Nah, I give it to him he had great defitnition but I don't know if he ever was better then Joe Lewis and he sure the hell wasn't better then Arnold who was Mr. Olympia 5 or 6 times. He never really had a chance lets remember he died at 32.
I fought Joe 12 years ago in Wisconsin. He came to the martial arts school where I practice. This guy was in his 50's at the time and I was amazed. His front punch was so damn fast, he could literally hit you on the top of your from 6 feet away. Mind you, you would be in a fighting stance. I hit this man in the guts numerous times and my hands felt like I just hit a brick wall. My wrist would bend as I hit him in the guts. Anybody that thinks that fighting this guy is easy, whatever.
cunt??he was voted the GREATEST karate fighter of all time by black belt and his peers.you are as disrespectful as you are stupid...joe was one of the greats ever...
Think Master Sken would be disgusted over your lack of respect for a senior regardless of his style - if you do Muay Thai - first thing you should have learnt not how to hit a pad
Just because you saw that stupid documentry from National Geographic doesn't mean you know shit about a punch. You probably never even been in a real deal fight.
Yes its documented

Great video. Prob Coles corner shouldhave thrown in the towel earlier. This was Joes ccomeback series in the 80s?. Despite the reality of the UFC I personally find this more interesting to watch. These pka fighters of the 70s and 80s were great fighters combining high and mid level kicks with good boxing skills. Personally, Id love to see this back again as a prime sport on TV.
Thanks for the upload.

There's a huge difference between Joe Lewis and Bruce Lee. The difference is that Joe Lewis is a fighter and Bruce Lee was an actor.
Five5six 1 year ago 2
@Five5six wow.... stfu u ignorant shit and read up on bruce lee's life, lee was a street fighter before he was an actor, and joe lewis is not a fighter, hes an athlete, huge difference between fighting with boxing gloves and your bare fists. Lee's style was specially developed for street fighting
fullmetal891 1 year ago
@fullmetal891 Burden of proof is on you, there's never been any proof that Lee was a streetfighter. Bruce Lee was just an actor who died from a drug overdose while cheating on his wife.
Five5six 1 year ago

Bruce was great, but don't say he invented things he never did.
And don't say Bruce was one of the greatest fighters. He fought no one. To be the best you have to beat the best. List for great fighters Bruce Lee destroyed:

Joe Lewis, Bill Wallace - two powerful kickers, one with blazing speed and the other with a fantastic side kick.
All you people that think Bruce Lee was only a movie fighter are wrong. He was
real, fast and powerful.
The biggest impediment in the 60's and 70's to Karate was the politics between styles. Different tournaments scored certain strikes and not others.
Full contact changed that. It is hard to award a point to a guy that is on the mat out cold.
1972 Miami

joe Lewis is a scary guy, about his small stature and inability to kick- ask 6-8 ed Daniels about Lewis's kicking prowess.
I went to a seminar of his in 1972. He wore a checkered gi and showed us the power of the inch punch by having a senior student hold a phone book in front of him. One inch, the guy flew back.
This was at Master Tom Dunnes school.

even Dana White? Why is Dana White credible?
TheTerrorUforgot 2 years ago
@JOHNNYAPPLE42
What Dana White meant was CROSS TRAINING, which is true. Bruce wanted people to not stick to one style, but learn the best from each.
MMA had existed prior to Bruce. In fact, the first MMA sanctioned fight was in the early 60s with Gene Lebell vs some boxer.

JOE LEWIS: karate, taekwondo ITF and full contact..the best
nicolamaro84 3 years ago
Joe Lewis has nothing to do with ITF taekwondo.
legkicker01 3 years ago
What is ITF? Also, I read somewhere that Joe Lewis learned karate in Japan while in the military. Did he really reach black belt rank in about 7 months? Classes here are usually once a week, so if he did that every day, I guess he would have reached it up to 7 times quicker...
brucenatelee 3 years ago
The ITF stands for the International TaeKwon-Do Federation. The ITF was founded by the late General Choi Hong Hi, after being kicked out from the Korea Taekwondo Association (today the WTF), for which he was one of the founding members. While stationed in Okinawa, Lewis trained in karate twice a day (two different schools), 7 days a week. That's how he got promoted quickly. I think Lewis no longer is associated with karate. Today he teaches kickboxing.

Either way I don't know what Bruce was thinking at the time and to I can only assume what he thought.
Either way I think that it's pretty obvious that Muay-thai fighters were very tough at the time to beat.
But either way Joe is just top notch and he's really great rolemodel for most people.
backstabba101 3 years ago
And Muay Thai Kickboxing has been around for hundreds of years long before Bruce Lee.
Other early fighters Bruce Lee could have fought to prove his BS crap about being the best:
Chartchai Chionoi
Saenchai Terdthai
Wehart Napapol
Ravee Dechachai
Kongdet Lookbangplasoi
Loads of fighters that could have killed Bruce Lee during his era. Bruce avoided the World Muay Thai Kickboxing Champions of his era cause he was full of SHIT.
MasterPervy123 3 years ago
In those days(60's and early 70's), there was no glory, respect or money for fighting Thai boxing champions, outside of Thailand and Japan. Lee was never a Thai boxer, and he never had to eighter fight or avoid Thai champions. As a matter of fact, it was Benny Urquidez, who lost to the Thai boxer, yet he has never acknowledged the defeat to this day.
legkicker01 3 years ago
Benny Urquidez at least was a World Champion Bruce Lee was NOTHING. As for Money thats an excuse to avoid a fight. So yes Bruce Lee was full of SHIT.
MasterPervy123 3 years ago
Lighten up, I am not a Bruce Lee fan. So I have never said he would have been better than others,or something like that. But even with my limited knowledge, I have never heard of any fact that Lee was ever offered a fight against a Thai boxer. Thus, saying he avoided a fight against a Thai is not accurate. Personally I don't think he was shit, but it was his fans who made him shit AFTER he died.
legkicker01 3 years ago
He may have not had the trophies to prove anything, but he did die before he got the chance to show us. He did bring us the idea of using techniques that were logical and not out of tradition. He was also known by many experts and masters, even Chuck himself, to have one of the fastest punches and kicks in martial arts. Just because he didn't prove it doesn't mean he couldn't have.

MasterPervy123 3 years ago
I agree with what you said about Bruce Lee being non-fighter. But putting him against Benny Urquidez or fighting in Thailand are pointless. When Lee died in 73, Urquidez had not started to fight in full-contact competition. As a matter of fact, even the PKA wasn't born yet. Lastly, whether you like it or not, fighting in Thailand was not financially rewarding. Lee had his family to support and other things to take care of. For that reason, making films were lot more lucrative.
legkicker01 3 years ago
Benny Urquidez fought fought & defeated Datu Manabe in 1972 . Benny Urquidez has been fighting since the 70s.
MasterPervy123 3 years ago
Urquidez said he began his pro/full-contact career in 74 in Hawaii. Tommy Lee's World Series of Martial Arts was the very first event he fought as a pro. Prior to that, Urquidez had been a point karate competitor.

to the video: is this what a world class can do with a nobody? 10 min of fighting like a girl? joe lewis said biting is one of his best streetfighting skills. but he never acceptet a streetfight. he never acceptet any challenge. this alone is a sign of weakness. he taught bruce lee kicking?: hm i thought everyone told that the world. norris, rhee, inosanto go on and on.how could lee learn kicks from him when they only talked and not sparred.only from the videos?nah.that would make lee awesome :p
Brucelee4eva 3 years ago
How many street fights had joe lewis in his life=? he doesnt accept any challenge. he got no experience in street fights. lee had a lot of it. now call me who was the real fighter when it comes to life or death? he can only fight when a referee is protecting him and cut every 2 sec the opnonents. he always said that bruce was a movie star but that doesnt make you a fighter. i think the real fighter was lee and not lewis. lewis is just a talker who wanted to have a bit of lees big cake of famous.
Brucelee4eva 3 years ago
Instead you have to do something for yourself.
legkicker01 3 years ago 2
Thats cos bruce had nothing to prove by the glory bullshit of competitional fighting. he studied martial art as it was meant be, an art not a sport, Shaolin monks never fought in street fights or competition, but wud u say they are shite. and yes Bruce Lee did Kick fuckin ass in the few street fights he did come across
joeylou89 3 years ago
How come you're so sure Lee would have an edge over Lewin in a street situation? Did you ever meet or train with Lee? Fight on the street and any type of competitive fight are different. We all know that. You don't have to read what Lee had to say to understand this simple fact. Many non-fighter types use this as an excuse not to compete. I believe Lee was just afraid of lose face. A typical attitude among the Chinese MA practitioners.

We should talk more about them.
legkicker01 3 years ago
yes.and thats sad because he would now a day shut his mouth. joe lewis technique, speed and power dont impress me. its same with chuck norris or bob wall. these guys are all good. no doubt. but bruce was the real deal. and thats my opinion and im sharing it with bob wall who saw them live in action. u know the people who saw them live face to face calling bruce the greatest fighter they had seen on on this planet. and they didnt say joe lewis is the greatest. that makes joe angry.truth hurts

All of you who talk about Bruce Lee not going into these types of "competitions" are a joke. Bruce Lee wanted to bring forth "NO STYLES", NOT "KARATE BOXING" (what these clowns call "Kickboxing")...
But, the fact is, if you REALLY think Joe Lewis could take on Bruce Lee, an all around TRUE Mixed Martial Artist, in what is now considered a "cage match" - I have a bridge to sell you...
clenard 3 years ago
It's really amazing way too many people point out how Bruce Lee influenced Joe Lewis, or Lee was a better fighter than Lewis, etc in vertually every one of Joe Lewis clip. It's true Lee taught Lewis briefly, and Lewis gives credits to Lee for teaching him. But being a fighter is totally different matter. Comparing Lewis and Lee is like comparing Mike Tyson and Cus D'Amato. Lee was never a fighter, but had some fabulous ideas for martial arts.
legkicker01 3 years ago
You got it completely right. Bruce has always been very important to the world of martial arts, but he wasn't a competitor like Lewis, Benny Urquidez, Gene LeBell or Chuck Norris. People that put him on a pedestal and say he's the greatest fighter that ever lived are setting themselves up for disappointment if they ever go and check out the facts.
smurfenstein 3 years ago
I'm glad there are people like you who can look at the Lewis/Lee relationship objectively. Lee might have been very confident or cocky, but never claimed he was the greatest fighter or anything like that. That's the only way.
metzman07 3 years ago

KingHotChocolate 3 years ago

So, cinema or not, Bruce Lee was the TRUE pioneer of Mixed Martial Arts, as it's known today.
clenard 3 years ago

To sum it up all Japenese style are a misture of Chinese style Wing Chun Chinese boxing etc.
abenice 3 years ago

Are you kidding me Joe Lewis was into bodybuilding way before bruce ever was.
abenice 3 years ago
Lol, most likely, that doesn't mean that Bruce Lee's physique never passes that of Joe's though. Watch the video, I'm tired of arguing, seriously.
KingHotChocolate 3 years ago
Nah, I give it to him he had great defitnition but I don't know if he ever was better then Joe Lewis and he sure the hell wasn't better then Arnold who was Mr. Olympia 5 or 6 times. He never really had a chance lets remember he died at 32.

Joe Lewis is a legend in his own right though.
