  • David Letterman is the king of Late Night.

  • @rockypc94 conan does more

  • leno laughs at his own jokes to much

  • and Paul got some hairs

  • The ONLY time I watch Leno is when a guest is on there that I am dieing to see. David Letterman is by far funnier than Leno........

  • After going through what happened with Conan O'Brien this past year, I know how these people felt to see him on tv again.

  • hêh_î_fëêl_sò_lÒÑÈlY_tóÐÁy

  • Why does this say it's the 1st show?

  • @sashman1972 First LATE show. Thats what it means

  • @sashman1972 The first show Dave did at CBS called The Late Show.

  • @sashman1972 It's the first episode of "Late Show with David Letterman" on CBS. His preview show was on NBC.

  • Letterman > *

But he does need to retire.

  • "Bud" kicks it off with a CBS ID, just as he kicked off the old Late Night show in 1982.

  • sucks,,,lookingfor nbc

  • leno < kimmel < letterman < conan

  • lenos jokes= peanut butter and bannana sandwhiches

  • DejaVu!

  • This is great nostalgia,, but seriously, why are these shows still on the air?

I always wondered who was tuning into tv that starts at 11 or 11:30. i mean, don`t monst people have to get up early in the morning?

  • @xvoy2002

i've had many jobs that were not 9~5.

  • DAVE se habla español....!!!

  • Thank you for uploading the show, it needs to be on the net. I remember videotaping Dave's first show on CBS too. Too bad that tape is in some landfill somewhere by now!

  • It's weird...I had the same thought about this new set for Dave after he left NBC that I eventually had when Conan O'Brien, who had been in Dave's old studio for years, left for The Tonight Show. The set is too big. It looks nice...but late night always seems better to me when it's a little claustrophobic.

  • In This Clip, From 0:00 To 3:30, It Was The Late Show With David Letterman Video Open From August 30, 1993.

  • this isnt the first letterman show...

  • DAVE DAVE DAVE DAVE DAVE DAVE DAVE 2:02

  • I miss the Twin Towers.

  • @nhdrumline11 its just steel concreate glass

  • Did Dave ad-lib the Peacock joke?

Paul didn't do his usual Paul thing.....

  • Dave trumps Leno any day of the week!!!!

  • This is so long ago that Dave had hair & wasn't wearing glasses.

  • This reminds me that Conan's situation with NBC isn't the first time that network stuck it to someone. They screwed Letterman too!

  • His acting... So much common with Barack Obama.

  • Do you have the last part of Bette Mider siging on Johnny Carson

  • When The Jay leno show debuted didn't Jay made that same joke about the show not being a promo?

  • its still funny even today!!!!!!!!!1

  • @QuakerDragon Haha!! Yeah me too

  • Who was the first guy, in black and white?

  • Comment removed

  • @bansaraba Ed Sullivan

  • Ed Sullivan

  • That was Calvert DeForest.... a comedian that Dave frequently had on until his death. He did a great tribute to him that you can find here on YouTube.

  • Larry "Bud" Melman....real name Calvert DeForest. Died in 2007....that guy was nuts. He would occasionally pop up on shows like Pee Wee's Playhouse too. But most people new him from the skits he did on Letterman.

  • oh my god

  • sorry I'm not english, what was his first joke?

  • how exciting....wish I was old enough to have watched these shows as they aired....and I also wish Dave put the same effort he put in his shows back then now

  • wow the studio looks so different

  • 3:57

Ladies and gentleman this is not a promo this is the actual show hhaha stick that in your puppet and jerk off

  • Leno just stole that joke for his new show. So, even the jokes are recycled.

  • exactly lol

  • hey. jay leno said the same thing on his first show! I smell copying...

  • @captain5enterprise Yep. Leno and Letterman have a lot in common. Except Letterman did it first.

  • @Willy105 except that Letterman never stole a show from anybody and in fact him leaving created a new opportunity for Conan

  • @hgates101 Yeah, there's that too.

  • @Willy105 they got alot in common but letterman sucks waymore

  • @bfreezeik101 Shows how idiotic you are.

  • @JonasLikesDonuts idiotic letterman sucks go eat a donut !!!

  • Dave was edgier before his heart operation.

  • That's ridiculous. As if that was the turning point. I think he's gradually gotten a bit "soft" with age, as we all do (as our brains do), but after almost 20 years of doing the same job, I can bet you'd get a little lax at it.

  • Jay Leno said something very interesting a couple of weeks ago. He said that Dave was a "much better broadcaster" than he was, but that Leno himself was a "much better comedian." I'm a Dave guy, but I think Leno was probably right.

  • agreed. good point.

  • Yea, definitely true.

That's why after Leno's monologue, I couldn't stand to watch him.

  • why would you every worship anyone? all i need to do is read your first 7 words and simply ignore the rest of what you have to say.

  • Conan is funny, but the "worship" thing is what sounds ridiculous. You lose all credibility in my book when you worship others.

  • In the late 90's.

  • Amazing. That GODFATHER joke will ALWAYS be relevant!

  • they woreship him

  • Post September 4, 1995 (Alan Kalter's debut) of Late Show with David Letterman, anybody. Thank you.

  • Later on, Alan Kalter took over as the announcer in 1995, if anyone can post Alan Kalter's debut announcer on the "Late Show with David Letterman", I be appreciate it.

  • great from the beginging as Bill Hicks said Letterman never sold out, unlike Leno

  • To be fair, Letterman infamously cut Bill Hicks from an early Late Show appearance. And to Dave's credit, he had Hicks' mom on the show recently and they showed the whole routine uncut.

  • I believe he started wearing his glasses for the show just a few years ago IIRC.

  • Amazing how good the first show turned out! Hasen't changed a bit! Well... Paul found his look. Didn't know he looked like that back in the days. Fun to see the first show :-)

  • this is awesome seein the old show again, I like the Sullivan intro, he's introducing "the Lettermen" a vocal group that's funny editing, I wonder who the "david" was?

    awesome dude thnx

  • David made the perfect move to CBS. Johnny Carson told him to do so. They weren't gonna give Dave The Tonight Show and he probably wouldn't be able to afford to buy the show from NBC. David Letterman is in a great place and has been for 15 years at CBS. He owns his show and The Late Late Show, he makes at least $40 million a year, and he can pick the guests he wants. Not just anyone famous like Jay tends to do. No dissing Jay, his show is great too, but David has more of Johnny Carson in him.

  • 40 million a year!?!?!? wow

  • Letterman get's 33 million a year. But I googled that..I think.

  • A joke that I still have going with friends to this day is that when Letterman moved from NBC to CBS, he ripped the Peacock's Eye out and used it for something new. *ducks tomatoes*

  • Remember the "I'm standing up for Jay" campaign NBC had.

  • I was 13 and a big fan of Late Night when this aired. I remember waiting months for this show to air and unbelievably enthused when it did. He still, even at the stage the show is in, can make me laugh because i love his personality. When he retires it will feel like the death of a very close friend. I'm dreading it even now. Long Live The King Of Late Nights.

  • Dudes Tell me who do u remember when u see this show i feel Craig From The Late Late Night Show yeah the same kinda style

  • do u mean craig ferguson on the late late show? then yes i kinda do

  • Exactly.. Remind of some one

  • Talkvid, thanks so much for uploading this!

  • This is his 1st show on a new network, not his 1st show.

  • David stuck with tradition as like on Late Night, Dave's first guest is Bill Murray. David Letterman is the most powerful in Late Night. He is Johnny Carson, he's a great writer, interviewer. etc. Jay is great too. He is a professional too and he has made The Tonight Show really great but David's humor remidns me more of Johnny Carson's. Whereas Jay is more like Dennis Miller, conservative, more polished act, etc. David Letterman is the king though and I know Johnny would say that anyway.

  • The late Bill Wendell as announcer.

  • PAUL HAS HAIR

  • Nice, now lets see if anyone can find Leno's first show too

  • Leno's jokes are simple and weak. His interviews are impossibly slow and at times--awkward to watch. But hey, if you like that sorta thing.

  • Leno sold out when he advertised Doritos!

  • what a great find, thanks for posting it!

  • Thanks for the vids! I heard that Tom Brokaw got in trouble with NBC execs for his appearance.

  • There are so many things I wish I could do with my Dad, but I do also wish I could sit back and watch lettermen of Old with my Dad, late night like the old days. Carson, Lettermen and nothing else was like them.

  • TalkVid ! Thanks again for some great great stuff ! This is gonna be fun to watch. Hey, you don't have the weatherman clip when he congratulated the tropical storm on being upgraded to a hurricane do ya? My wife hasn't seen that.. Thanks for putting this together for us all!!
