  • OCCUPY EVERYWHERE!

Make the walls come down here in the USA. Restore the American Dream by making a new American Dream. We are worth it. You are worth it

  • Yes, I think we all know it was really Johnson & Johnson that was behind the attacks on 9/11. They wanted to sell more dust masks to the clean up people...

    Good song though.

  • yayayayayayaya- woop woop! Frickin' great.

  • 106.7 KROQ Los Angeles

  • Best part is at 3:16

    Cool tune.

  • first song I taught myself to play. Makes me misty eyed

  • Herb from WKRP, I didn't know you were the lead singer in this band! Ya, Ya, Ya!!! Ya, Ya, Ya!!!!

  • @fitzpatrickgf i knew that dude reminded me of someone....

  • @fitzpatrickgf : Actually, he doesn't dress well enough to be Herb... and what are we to make of the multiple ya's you employ?

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 - Ya meaning Yes or Truth to the matter that due to Herb's wardrobe, there are indeed old Volkswagens with missing seat covers. ONE MORE FOR THE ROAD! Ya ya ya! Ya ya ya!!!

  • Yeah I remember these guys! What an awesome band of musicians and an awesome song!!!

  • Back in the day the video takes me back several friends and I listen & watched the video really good musicians good lyrics good sound thanks youtube. Oh yeah, good metaphors isn't good music lyrics actually a good poem, again thanks youtube.

  • This song was great when I was a teen and it still is awesome today!

  • Best part 3:15

  • @xxxHeyZeusxxx

    Yeah, sweet, man.

  • Freaking voice

  • great music, remember this from high school. viva la 80's lol................

  • Mid-80s!

  • bad ass song

  • Very Talking Heads-ish. I mean that only in a positive way.

  • greg freeman is the one related to me

  • fun fact the guy playing bass is my uncle and i tink he is great

  • Ah' it's the mighty Garth Hudson on the keys. Garth was a founding member of The Band and played a Lowrey instead of a Hammond B3 like everyone else seemed to be doing. Lowrey's and Wurlitzer's had a foot lever on the left edge of the volume pedal that when you pushed it with the edge of your foot it would lower the notes played by one note ( a 1/2 step). It was great for Hawaiian guitar effects ( On last song on John La Duca Mr. Fantastic & the Wonderful World of Wurlitzer). Search them both:)

  • Wow, I had forgotten how much I loved The Call when I was in college in the 80's. Awesome band with great songs. Thanks for posting!

  • walls fell on 13 people....

  • Thats Garth Hudson of the Band on the keyboards.

  • That's awesome they got Friedrich Nietzsche to sit in on keyboards.

  • Pappaw on the cheezy- sounding keyboards!!!

  • For a long time, I thought the last line was "corporate criminals, renegade banks".

  • @aprilglaspieable hey that's almost better!

  • they were awesome. michael's voice was one a kind and wrote from the heart. God bless us with you

  • RIP Mike Been

  • Brilliant! So glad i found this treasure, whilst record-hunting in Berlin!

  • Haven't seen this since 83, (19) I can appreciate it now.. sorry to politicize

sort of..29 years later & "Corporate criminals" how fitting today..

  • Great song from my youth, love it. Remember standing around with my mates and chugging many drinks down our throats and getting up on the dance floor and just dancing with any girl at all. Yeah great times.

  • awesome

  • One of my favorite MTV videos ever!

  • Last line: "Corporate criminals; playing with things...."

  • @beelzabubba - slight correction "Corporate criminals...playing with TANKS"

  • Gosh, forgot all about this one till this morning when I heard it on the radio! Love it!

  • Seen this band, oh so many years ago.

They opened for Peter Gabriel . . .

    DJ

  • Garth Hudson, From the Band too this. very cool

  • Whoop WHOO!

  • Great Tune, i'll donate it to Ebay & Paypal but...

  • Bringing in Garth Hudson for this was one of the most ingenious or luckiest moves in rock history.

  • OMG, that IS Garth Hudson on the organ fills...cool.

  • definitely got a Talking Heads vibe to this one, eh?

Dear God and I Still Believe are good too.

  • As relevant today as 1983.

  • @redstone1963 good i'm not the only one that sees this.......almost scary.

  • I remember MTV showing this vid two or three times a day.

  • Damn... It'll be 1 year this Friday since we lost Michael (8/19/10)...

    RIP, Michael Been

Thanks for helping bring walls down

  • This song reminds me a lot of "Jamaica" by Bachman Turner Overdrive...

  • "just corporate criminals playin with tanks" GFC2 is here

  • the Call was one of the most underrated bands of the rock era. Never got the recognition they deserved. Still can't stop playing their music 25 years after it was originally released.

  • I consider I don't Wanna to be a rock anthym

  • Can you belive it... I still have cassettes of 80's band.... They are great... I am never going to get rid of them...

  • Great song. This was a fav of mine back in the awesome 80's when I was in my 20's and enjoying the great music of that decade.Too bad it's gone. This just goes to show ya that even less known bands of the 80's still had some awesome songs that lives on.Another band of this status is Midnight Oil and their song Beds Are Burning. It's great to see these vids and songs again. This younger generation hasn't a clue and alas,"They'r not laughing anymore,ya ya ya ya ya ya ya !Wop! Wop!

  • This song and video popped into my head the other day. I wondered if it would seem as cool? I think it does. There are some 80's bands that don't translate very well to in the present time. Back then I didn't really listen to the lyrics, I was just moved by the melody and rhythm. I guess I'm still like that. But, it may be that the content of the song is what helps it transition into modern times - because it is relevant now. If this could get airplay now - I think it would be popular.

  • Just curious...how does a person "dislike" a music video? I mean, you looked for it. Why the F would you look for a video just to click that you don't like it? Friggin morons in this world, I swear.

  • @cnunowfg Haven't you ever found something you were looking for only to be disappointed by it ? People click on vids out of curiosity sometimes. Doesn't mean they are automatically going to like it. Just replying to your question. As for me, I love the Call. Way underrated.

  • @cnunowfg I did that a few weeks ago after I heard a few bars of a totally wretched song while scanning my car radio dial. I Googled a few of the lyrics (it turned out to be that "California Girls" song by Katy Perry), found the most viewed videos of it on YouTube, gave them thumbs-downs and any neg. comments thumbs-ups. I wouldn't do that to some esoteric crap, but if it gets much airplay, it's fair game. What I don't get is how anyone could "dislike" THIS video or song.

  • Geezer Pick of the Day for 07/13/11 (@vestigialtales on twitter)

  • That is Garth Hudson doing the insane fill, right? Corporate criminals? Yup. And they rule the world.

  • IM REALLY SURPRISED THIS BAND DIDNT GET THE RECOGNITION THEY DESERVED..THEY WERE REALLY GOOD..THE ALBUM RECOINCILED WAS GREAT!!!!!!

  • I survived the 80's and looking back, I haven't noticed a great deal of change in the world-just different names to the terrorists playing a variant of the same game.

  • Jeez..I remember this excellent song from college...Thanks for sharing!!!!

  • Sorry.....just sayin'

  • Hey, metrotv my friend: I get the first half of what you're saying. Unfortunately, it's all about the politics if you listen to the words. It's a coming-of-age thing when you first realize that a song you love just for the music hides a more serious message. I get it, but that's art. Doesn't mean you can't still love it for the first reason you did. Lyrics and music can be mutually exclusive if you let them be. I love this song equally for both.

  • @maniskov I understood the political overtones of the song even back then. Like you, I lived through the Cold War years as well, unlike many Millennials who post on here and did not experience anything before 9-11. I can't stand "internet debates" of this nature, hence my acerbic reply. If taken out of context, my bad then.

I did learn one thing on this thread though, that the keyboard player was Garth Hudson of The Band. I played "Chest Fever" on my way home from work last night !

  • Aside, from the politics, this entire album is a must if you like this genre of music. Every song is a good listen which is rare and it is even rarer to find this album. I have an old tape and it still sounds great. However, I probably would not dig too deep into their later works.

  • I'm a little late with this comment....but does the name HALIBURTON mean anything to you? Wars may not be conceived directly by large corporations but they sure do take advantage.

  • Very sorry to hear about the death of Michael B. I saw this band live in their heyday and they were amazing.

  • @606Spruce

awesome! his song's band, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, is awesome live too... i've seen em a handful of times. i didn't know about the relation until a few years ago!

  • garth hudson hahaha

  • At the end of the day, there ain't no Russians - and there ain't no Iraqs. Only profitteers, playing with tanks.

  • I came in here to watch a long lost video of a really good song from my teenage years, everybody arguing about politics please shut the hell up.

  • @metrotv It was a "Political" song.....Dolt!

  • @jkeithbrown

    No need to insult.

  • @metrotv

lol, amen!!!! i never paid that much attention to the lyrics, i was too busy playing along to the bass line :)

  • Comment removed

  • @metrotv Sorry, this happens to be a political song

  • @metrotv It is a political song.

  • @Lamboragon can you name one or are you just talking out YOUR ass? You don't need a book to tell you the so called wars we fight today have NOTHING to do with YOUR freedom and rights, ask a soldier who has been on the ground why we're there. Their answer may just shock the shit out of you.

  • "I don't think there are any Russians

    There ain't no Yanks

    Just corporate criminals

    Playing with tanks"

--The guy was prophetic. His songs still are.

  • so loved this song..thanks for uploading it!

  • love this song takes me back..thank you for this ..160000.lookers and 9 dislikes..wow truly a classic song

  • i loved this song in '83!! this would never be a hit now, nor would this band ever be interesting to record labels...a shame. they have an old balding guy with a beard on keyboards--that would NEVER happen now with a popular(-ish_ band. RIP Michael Been (whose son is in the band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club).

  • Rest in peace my friend.

  • RIP Michael Been. This song came out my senior year of high school and had only heard the song a few times since then. Until I looked them up on wikipedia I had no idea they were from the Bay Area, and I've lived in SF since 1995.

  • Just absolutely stupid good. Epic shit. I remember when it first aired.

  • Reminiscing. One of the early MTV hits - watching for the first time was a real trip watching my cousin..."hey, that's Greg!!" walking through the backstage, then playing bass! No way! I called him - he was in Santa Cruz at the band's house hanging out. He told me the story...he was their soundman, and well - their 1st bassist left, so they asked him if he could play bass - the next couple of albums, and a few tours, he was there the whole time, Greg ended up producing my band's 1st album :D

  • PROPHETIC

  • @billybob4684

x2 @ "PROPHETIC"....brilliant lyrics. A very Stones-like sound.....just a classic song allround with a powerful mesage.....stand up brothers and sisters and fight the coporate criminals. Vote Ron Paul and take your country back!!!!

  • Great song & video! Loved seeing it on MTV back in the day. Even more relevant today with corporate stiffs like Rupert Murdoch & the Koch Brothers trying to rule over us.

The couple of times I saw Todd Rundgren play live recently, he has covered this song.

My condolences to the Been family.

  • Great memories of watching this video on MTV with my college buddies back in the day.

  • I've been listening to popular (and unpopular) music since 1958. This song is brilliant....

  • One of the greatest song lyrics of all time and so very true

  • 9 Russians and Yanks have visited this site ! Or is it 9 Corporate Criminals just playing with tanks.......... Woof-Woof !

  • I miss college radio : (

  • Comment removed

  • I remember playing this as a DJ in college...when I was a 'king' (before life taught me it's hard lessons). We got the album, free of course, as college radio, back then, was the 'springboard' to alt stations. When I unwrapped this ALBUM (you young 'uns might ask 'what's an album'..lol.......but when I first heard this song, before it made heavy rotation on MTV, I absolutely loved this band. Man, 1983....seems SO long ago. This video brings me back, WAY back...and RIP Michael Been.

  • Amen

  • " Just corporate criminals...playin' with tanks"

  • is it me or isn't it a god damn shame that good men like Michael Been pass away suddenly and young while we still got crappy performers who don't have as much talent like MIchael Been who probably had more talent in a fingernail than half of these hacks, THERE IS NO FUCKING GOD!

  • @SirCubedThaRyter couldn't agree with you more SirCubed - Been's voice was simply pure.

  • this song rocks hard

  • For those wondering , Woof-Woof comes at 3:16

  • Comment removed

  • @jrushmen Woof-Woof........Gotta love it ! R.I.P. Michael Been

  • I'm sad to hear Michael passed away ! My friends and I loved the Call. IMO They were very talented and so under rated. We were introduced to the Call through MTV. We used to crank this tune and turn it down and yell "Woof-Woof" near the end and then turn it back up. Thanks so much for posting !

  • Awesome song and again RIP Michael...

  • I think I had the keyboard player for a history teacher...

  • My ex-father in law was related to the guitarist...always thought this was an underrated band...

  • the walls fell on 9 people

  • Classic! Staggering that I search this up, and find out about Michael Been's passing! R.I.P

  • Is "Modern Romans" ever going to re-released in CD or MP3 format?

  • @385Doc wl ik

  • There must have been some kind of celestial buzz recently over this song in the last couple of weeks. I'm happy I wasn't the only one to think of it recently, for no apparent reason. The lyrics are even more relevant today than when Michael first wrote them. RIP Michael Been. And thanks to the rest of you for remembering this gem.

  • Sanctuary fades..... congregation splits.... Nightly military raids.....

    CLASSIC TUNE!!!!

  • About Michael's death: Well, that sucks. This particular song of his, along with Let The Day Begin, has been near the top of my personal Top 40 list since it first came out. An under-appreciated band that's as good as it gets.

    RIP, Michael.

  • awesome

  • This was the best band in the 80's that you never heard of. Lyrics, the music and this tune topped off by having Garth Hudson on syth... "Corp Criminals... playing with tanks..."

  • Please excuse the proceeding crude, rude, juvenile, response to this song... FUCKING AWESOME DUDE!

  • Garth Hudson of The Band on synth...awesome!!

  • this song rings true today.

I loved this song when it came out but can't remember what yr? Anybody know?

  • I was sixteen when I saw this video. Not only did I love his words, but I loved the photography in this video. This song still is very potent and strong to this very day.

  • Introduced it to my eighteen year old son. He can't stop watching it. What does that tell you?

  • Pirqakunam chacharqan, paykunam urmakurqan, ishkirqan. Hatun takiq, Michael; manañám nuqanchiswan.

  • excellent video for a great tune - thanx . . .

  • excellent video for a great tune - thanx . . .

  • I am no longer producing Music Videos but work as a Post Production Producer on a T.V. SERIES. I would prefer to be Producing Films or my own T.V. shows but I'm being hired to handle primarily Post Production.

  • Great song. Some Talking Heads influence on this one perhaps.

    RIP.

  • Someone once told me that was Michael Been's father on keyboards... I hope to God that's true...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 No that isn't Michael Been's father on the keyboards. It's Garth Hudson from the band called THE BAND. However, Michael's father in law is featured in the video for a flash over Michael's shoulder. The child that is flashed is Michael's son.

  • Old rocker here....when i need/want to get back to the school I crack this one open......juanitadiana..u have my thanx for praise....MB....coast on and rebel where ur@!-Matty Hop

  • Tried to find this song for years on a cd(back when you had to go to the store to buy it) Thanks for getting it out there

  • Shoot Michael was ahead of his time. What a voice!!!!

  • One of my all time favorite songs and videos RIP Michael thanks for the music.

  • RIP Michael. This song just popped into my head.... indelible lyrics and tune has stayed with me over the decades. (I am always reminded of Eraserhead when I see this video tho!)

  • Ever notice how much Been looks like Tim Daly (or vice-versa, I guess)?

  • "just corporate criminals....playing with tanks." this ranks up there with "meet the new boss... same as the old boss" as some of the greatest politcial lyrics of all time IMO.

  • @DWDave67 Right on the money.

  • The message of the song wont be missed though. If you are reading this....YOU KNOW WHAT A JOKE we are living in.

.....i dont think there are any Russians...and there aint no Yanks.

    just corporate criminals....playing with tanks.

    AH YAHYAH......

  • i would put this Great band up against Springsteen any day...The Call...they made the music...and Michael Been...cannot be replaced...so sad he has passed away...

  • The best band nobody ever heard of. Garth Hudson on Organ. The lyrics are perfect for today... Corporate Criminals... Playing with tanks... Perfect.

  • @DWDave67 Well, most people haven't heard of them because, at the time, most were too busy paying attention to ohh Micheal Jackson, Madona, Duran Duran, Def Lepard, U2, Kenny Logins, Bon Jovi and the like to notice this groupe.

  • @Skulldini truer words have never been spoken unfortunately.

  • RIP

  • RIP Michael, many were the nights I would dance to you and the band at the Catylyst in Santa Cruz, and the walls would come down!!

  • RIP Michael. You were an incredibly gifted artist. God Bless!

  • Rest in Peace, Michael Been.

The Call's "The Walls Came Down" is one of the most important songs of the Rock era. And one of the best.

  • Excellent song that I loved back when it came out and listen to still. Peace be Michael.

  • Michael Been passed away of an apparent heart attack on August 19,2010. He was at the Pukkelpop Music Festival in Hasselt, Belgium. We have his son and family in our prayers. The Call's music will always live on.
