Knee strikes are far more effective if you grab the opponent and use that leverage to pull him into the knees. Practicing a technique a million times will not make it second nature if it involves an ambush/panic attack. The brain does not function like that. The reactive part of the brain will ALWAYS override the cognitive part of the brain, providing a FLINCH. The kinetic energy from the flinch can then be turned into a tactical counter which might be the knees or elbows.
