I would have tried to do some custom motions, but since this was my first project, i didnt know the 1st thing about modeling so it turned out to be a whopping 208,000 polygons. And you may know 208,000 polys + physique = Lots of processing. And i only have 1 GB of RAM. So i just loaded the motions and rendered em out. If i get a new computer i am going to optimize the crap out of him and restart rigging him so i could have better control.
I have a Core i7 system too, but i havemt tried 6gbs of RAM, do u think its worth it? Means id have to get 64bit OS too wich could bring driver problems... Have u tried with just 3gbs? is it a huge boost?
If you have the i7 you absolutely need to get a 64 bit OS. If you upgrade to 3 GB you will notice a difference. But when you get into the 6-10 GB range it blows your mind how quickly things render. I have 64 bit vista but still run my 32 bit XP. Vista makes program files and then a new folder called Program files x86 for 32 bit programs. All 32 bit programs will work on a 64 bit system within reason, your windows 95 programs may not work.
Personal opinion, go for home premium or ultimate. If you are into any 3d application you basically need the same kind of computer a super gamer would have. I would also recommend getting 64 bit version of the program if you are able to but it is less of a difference than getting 2x the amount of RAM. My system:
Intel i7 2.66 GHz
6 GB DDR3 patriot RAM 1333 MHz
GeForce 9800 GT 1GB
Gigabyte EX-something capable of 3 way Xfire or SLI
I was thinking of different ways to make that othr than adjusting the physique envelopes for the movement. We hadnt started on the reactor or any physics engines at the point when i made this.
Most of it is basically box modeling. Head, chest, pelvis, joints, feet and hands. The legs were make of a line with a loft of a circle. All on 3ds MAX
Do you have Skype? - cool :-)

nice modeling and texturing. About the animation... It`s motion capture or bip files??..or maybe u made it!!?

.bip all the way! Courtesy of turbosquid lol

so how long did this take to render?
areyousureyeah2 3 years ago
Well, i was using a terrible computer at the time.
960 GHz
1GB DDR RAM and such so it took about 12 hours per 12 seconds. Si this took a little more than 16 hours.
I tried it on my new computer.
i7 quad 2.67GHz
6 GB DDR 3 RAM
and it took around 9 minutes

Did you make your own computer?

Yeah we built it, me dad and my bro.
So id have to ask my dad what he thinks about this before anything can happen :/

There is a function to simply upgrade to 64bit without losing any data, am i right?
Our system:
Intel i7 920
P6T Deluxe mobo, also Xfire and sli 3 way capable
Ati Radeon 4870 1g says the package but Dxdiag says 2294 :O Factory OC'd
RAID0 2 500gb really nice HDs. we had to get new, because one of the old ones were failing :(
3gb ram kingston 1067mhz :( wasnt anything better availible at the time.
Cost about 1700 euro if i remember right. w/o screen and accessories..

I think there is something (in vista) where you go into you're control panel and it should say upgrade your version of windows anytime.

core2duo 2.93 GHz
4 GB DDR2 ram
GeForce 9400 GT 1GB..
HD 500 GB..
am i able to perform simple animations? or just modeling..?? noob here.
DarkLuiLink 2 years ago
You would be able to do both. It may be a little slow depending on the complexity of the model and rig.
That is roughly 3 times the computer i had when i made this. Its the rendering that kills you.

ok.. thanks
