  • Dave Grohl on drums!

  • Awesome sound guys, great music !

  • JUSTIN FRESH POT!

  • wha kind of guitar is alain using??

  • @Drummerjuicer not sure, but I think a (Fender) Jaguar

  • @LedSandman It's actually a Fender Jazzmaster

  • Is that John Paul Jones?

  • @dealorn Damn right it is!!!

  • Suenan de coña!!!

  • dave grohl could have been a great boxer considering how hard he hits those drum skins!!!

  • @pugghead good thing he didn't become a boxer though :P

  • i somehow still cant believe that there is f****ing John Paul "The Man" Jones standing there rockin out...hats off to all!

  • unreal of how hard dave hits.

  • it's pretty sick that dave is back on drums

  • God, they needa show more Grohl towards the end lol...

  • alain johannes is a badass

  • the bald guys the only one who looks like hes struggling

  • @scottish1337 Clearly you don' t know shit about Alain Johannes...

  • @Mistermookey yeah i do ... even in dessert sessions and when he played with cornell he look iffy , so such up gimp XD

  • Dear ajuvix,

i experienced the original youtube audio and it was amazing...it was taken down for some time for reasons unknown(unexplained)...i grew up with john paul jones and admire him to this day (40 years later)

  • anyone know what guitar Josh is using?

  • @SkiveMusic Maton BB1200 JH

  • Oh my!!! Is that GOSS!? I just flipped out. As if it wasn't already amazing a group enough.

  • @gtoledo3 hahahahahahaha.....yes...and jesus plays the drums! ;-)

  • it's a strong tune, But it's obvious that it's a ripoff of "Rock N' Roll Hoochie Koo" Rick Derringer.

Had to be a member of Led Zeppelin to commit plagiarism.

  • @rockordingstar

    Nice cut and paste bro.

  • I just realizes this sounds similar to Rag Doll by Aerosmith, especially the vocal phrasing. Probably an unconscious influence when these guys wrote this song, or the vocals anyway...

  • America needs more good R&R JUST LIKE THIS.....too much pussy R&B out there these days....Thanks Dave, Josh and JPJ, the good old boys needed this!

  • What Josh Homme is playing looks impossible to play and sing with. He is amazing.

  • @ivanarato Sure. It's what makes the world go round.

  • @ivanaratoPlease don't insult me. There's a big difference between simple and tasteful. These guys have neither. it's just bashing as hard as you can. That's not simple. Charlie Watts is simple but brilliant.

  • JPJ needs to get with serious musicians like michael derosoer or denny carmassi. What a waste of his talent.

  • @rcskins You say that, But he wouldnt be there if he didnt think something of the three of them..... And as JPJ opinion matters more to me than a saddact on youtube then i'd say JPJ is doing nicely where he is right now for another couple of months till TCV finishes.

  • @Jept That's fine, it's your opinion. I'm just from an era when you had to be of a certain caliber to be up there. It's the equivelant of reality stars versus true actors who've studied their craft. Grohl himself says he's "a dummy when it comes to the craft and technique and that he doesn't ever practice". It's an insult to those out there who are serious about the instrument and spend countless hours honing their craft but will never get a shot..

  • @rcskins ...Who the hell are they?

  • Yikes, what a terrible mix... I'm sorry, but the extra player can't hold a candle to any of the other players and actually brings them down on this song. (His slide playing is less than adequate) For a super group, they could atleast get a super extra.

  • @ohgarboy So you could recreate the original sound of JPJ on bass slide? NO? I thought not.

  • @srob1022 You've misunderstood my comment. I'm saying the problem is that they've got someone who isn't quite up to par with the other players. Not once did I mention that I, individually, am capable of fulfilling their needs, so your response is pretty off-target. But I am a musician, and I am not deaf, and I can have my opinion of who's playing a part well..Don't attack me with irrellevant points.

  • @ohgarboy No, I think you've misunderstood my comment. Having seen him with both QOTSA and TCV, I think he's a competent musician who can hold his own. In this clip, he is trying to capture a sound JPJ laid down that few, if any, could reproduce. To call him sub-standard to the other musicians based on a challenge few could meet is unfair.

And it's "irrelevant", by the way.

  • @srob1022 Well that's okay, I respect that. But you must remember that everyone's entitled to their own opinions. You took it upon yourself to put it back on me personally, because you don't agree. If you don't agree, that's that. Just need to say exactly what you said in the previous post... Not attack someone on a personal level. and on a similar note- don't be a jerk. It was a typo. The two l's aren't terribly obvious on my current display setup.

  • @ohgarboy Um, I think you and I have VERY different definitions of "attack on a personal level". But I do respect that you're entitled to your opinion. You dismissed a musician on one specific example without considering his body of work. To me, that's more of a 'personal attack' than my response was.

And if you think pointing out a spelling error makes me a jerk, well, I respect your opinion on that as well, but respectfully disagree. I'm grateful when someone points out my typos to me,

  • @srob1022 You're right- sorry.

  • @ohgarboy It's all good...I'm glad SOME of us can actually have a conversation here without descending into whatever it is these days that passes for debate. Thanks for civil and reasoned discussion!

  • @srob1022 Yeah, you reminded me of something very important... That I was doing exactly what I was requesting you not to do to me. Yikes. Not sure how that slipped under the radar, but thanks not letting me go on so foolishly. It really is a shame that some youtube viewers more than often debate with principles of argument, rather than simple logic... No matter. Cheers.

  • @ohgarboy If you're up for it, you should check out that "extra player's" music. Alain Johannes... "Spark", his tribute to his partner Natasha Shneider, who died of cancer, is sublime. And "Time for Miracles" (Adam Lambert), which he co-wrote, ain't bad.

  • @ohgarboy Dude, that's Alain Johannes. He can actually play anything.

  • I (L) Fender Jazzmaster

  • Tasty!

  • so glad i was there

  • john pauls jones' bass is ill and so its ghrol's drums

  • @TaintedNull what sort off child plays RUNESCAPE? YOU. OH you dont know what real music is cause your nuts havent dropped yet. Which means that you cant even TEABAG anyone yet .. shut up little boy.. the more you talk .. the more yor an idiot! RUNESCAPE BOY

  • @pblindguy what made you say that?

  • somehow Josh seems to not let anyone else in on the show

  • that guy is alain johannes

  • "over a decade now has brought me from the time before I could have conceived of the explosions that would bring the sunlight back to me..."

thanks for bringing the sunlight back to music TCV... the first Roseland show was astounding... I can't wait to see you again and hear the new album!

  • Ya who is he, he was wit them on SNL 2

  • i know who you guys are. but who's the other guy on guitar??

  • @buttonNZ alain johaines

  • @buttonNZ His name's Alain Johannes.

He has already played with QOTSA

  • Grohl is a wildman lol awesome

  • Dunno bout the zepplin comment, homme wrote this when getting shit ready for qotsa's era vulgaris waaaaaay before the tcv hook up

  • i saw them live... best show i have seen.. pretty much ever.. Album is fricken awesome too

  • the underlyin riff is Zeppelin,no doubt.b gr8ful kiddies.this is as close as ur gonna get 2 seein zeppelin again.if u dont think so,go smoke a joint and listen 2 physical grffitti, same thing.Face it,Plant cant sing n e more and his heart aint in it n e way.this is as good as Rock is gonna get.Jones wudnt do it if he thought it sucked,he just 2 good,Grohl too

  • theyre gonna kick some serious ass at coachella

  • I can not WAIT they are going to be so good in the desert!!!

  • @gobigorgohome07

Obviously you don't know what country is. Please keep your idiocy to yourself until you've done research.

I suggest starting with Johnny Cash....but if you don't go back to at least the 1960s you won't understand anything.

  • @FordMustangsRock69

    bullshit

  • John Paul Jones is on he real would be!

    Great bass, man!

  • fucking sick man

  • This was an awesome live performance

  • agree with insaner338, Dave is one of the best drummers out there, and Josh is sick, watching him play that and sing, flawlessly mind you, blew my mind !

  • ...You're a fucken idiot... That's all i'll say

  • wow that crowd sucked

  • hey, are you coming to Portugal?

  • john paul jones still has it, wicked bass

  • Comment removed

  • love the bass sound

  • The reason Dave looks so natural on the drums is because he wanted to make a real career out of drumming. He did- and then some.

  • He's said before that he doesn't need to think about what he's doing all that much when he is tearing it up on the drums. It is as natural as breathing to the man. What a freakin' machine!

  • @JesusTerminator no he didn't, total hack with no technique

  • amaziiiing band dudes you rooock!!!! i really like it!!

  • That is a terrible mix. Its a shame, ACL usually captures artists well, even loud ones.

  • @ajuvix for a live show it sounds kinda dry

  • please go 2 OXEGEN!

  • I fucking LOVE this!!!!!

  • tight ending - great stuff - vocals need some work

who is that on the other guitar? Kojak?

  • it's Alain Johannes.

  • hes final back on the drums

  • I love Dave Grohl no matter what he does, but he seems so much more comfortable behind a drum kit. I mean, he's like Animal back there.

  • good stuff

  • Good to see Grohl on the skins again

  • Comment removed

  • i think the guitar is an old hagstrom.

  • @dirdydraws The guitar josh is playing is hhis signature maton electric guitar and alain is playing a jazzmaster with mini humbuckers

  • @duff13579 that jazzmaster has average humbucker pickups, they need that frame cuz the jazzmaster pickups are way big, check 2:24

  • im surprised troy isnt in here too

  • Troy's playing in Sweethead currently

  • This is great... John Paul Jones looks like a kid up there, and I love the bass line.

  • what kind of guitar is josh homme using? i love it

  • i actually saw a bit of this on tv accidentally

  • i'm a fan of Josh Homme!

    But he's some fat, yeah?

    Them Crooked Vultures Rulez!

    EODM Rulez!

    QOTSA Rulez!

  • so what if hes fat? turd

  • Yeah, he probably eats food.

  • It's retro, nostalgic and fresh all rolled into one. It makes you crave more!

  • I can see why JPJ called on Dave Grohl to drum with him. His intensity reminds me alot of John Bonham. Dave is not the greatest technician in the world but he just puts it in your face. The guys a friggin animal.

  • I think that it happened the other way around. It was Dave Grohl who organized the entire group after playing with JPJ in wembley with the foos, and since he and josh homme have been good friends for a while, he invited him too.

But yes, he's a friggin animal!

  • it was the other way around. grohl got JPJ to play fro him.

  • I saw them a couple of days ago in ATL. Awsome concert!!!

  • Dave is the coolest guy.

  • whos the bald guy?

  • @gibbley I think he also plays the bass for Eagles Of Death Metal from time to time. Don't know his name though.

  • nope, thats Brian O'Connor

  • You need to clarify your comment. Brian O'Connor plays for EODM.

Maddman95 is correct in identifying the second guitarist playing with TCV.

  • @gibbley Alain Johannes, he's just their live guitarist, just to help out on the stuff Josh can't do by himself. I think he plays a bit of bass & keys too. Very talented guy.

  • the reason they dont preform a song exactly like on the record is because, Everyone knows how that sounds if they wanted to her the same thing They would just listen to the CD. And dave grohl is the greatest musician of all time, Foofighters, nirvana, queens of the stoneage, tenacious d, tha man is all around but of course john brings the attention and groove to the band, but john is a fantastic writer, the other guy I feel sorry for he doesnt get the attention he diserves. I LOVE TCV

  • John Paul, youve been an inspiration of mine for my entire life. You are the baddest bass player and all-around musician.

  • Wow where did these guys come from? 1ST I heard of them was last night on Austin City Limits. Blew me away. I mean Dave Groll back on BIG drums....The John Paul Jones? Man if they stay together this will become one of the classic super groups...imo.

  • the slide guitar riffs have to be really hard to play... I've been to one of their shows and the 2nd guitarist is awesome... so why can't he play it like it's on the record here?

  • Maybe he's just having an off day. Happens to all of us, of course.

  • damn dave grohl is a beast!!!! I mean he's never been that corpulent hehe

  • Hey crooked vulturs video guy - use a deinterlace filter or make it progressive for the web, those motion lines are irritating!

  • The best 55 mins of tv I've ever seen.

  • No music is completely original anymore. It simply isn't possible.

  • in fact, the only completely original music was some guy whacking two sticks against each other 10.000 years ago :)

  • Haha, yeah. Just saying getting into arguments over it is kinda pointless. As long as the music isn't obviously derivative and the artist apparently put heart and effort into it, I'm all good.

  • I prefer this version than the studio!

  • For most rock songs you don't need to be that good of a guitarist. I'm not that good of a guitarist, but I play most rock songs without mistakes.

  • Killer.. jpj you rock..

  • This song is a rip off of "I Love It Loud" by KISS.

  • this song is faster paced and better all around. the riff is similair but drums and bass are way different.

  • Comment removed

  • @bryanmberman indeed

  • You honestly don't think that these three rock legends would stoop so low as to rip off KISS, do you?

  • Comment removed

  • Holy shit, you're right...This has got to be a coincidence, I give a lot of respect to these guys, especially JPJ, therefore this makes me a sad panda.

  • @bryanmberman bad eyes AND ears huh?

  • @bryanmberman clown.....

  • @cgb1050 Johannes has an interesting musical background way back from the 80's. He's not the average sessionist guy. Google him and you'll understand why these fellas consider him their secret weapon.

  • @Papatorrejano you got it right on... Johannes isn't some random backup guitarist... the guy is amazing. Eleven put out some really great material. Anyone who thinks they are a Queens fan and doesn't know who Alan is should do some research.

  • grohl's drumin kick uss!!! he lives to play drums!

  • Must be a hard life. I'm sure it looses it's lustre at times. Trying to please hordes of people when you just wanna chill with the family or jam in the garage instead of playing the same ol same ol concert after concert.

  • its strange seeing josh in a band where there are plenty of live vids but none of them top the studio version.

  • i can't wait until this airs!

  • their debut album is over the limits, if we are considering that in these days, rock music is so underrated ... specially after the 60s, 70s,80s, and 90s ... theres a new hope for rock n´roll for our lost generation.....

  • I trully believe Them crooked vultures is the future of rock&roll.

  • great song!!!

  • saw these last year. amazing!

  • You know, I was rolling once listening to this song lol..

And when you get a headache from listening to this song.. You know that this song is kicking ass! Lol.. And you know that your roll is working lol.

  • i actually enjoyed the WHOLE album, something about it just stands out miles apart from anything else out there, except maybe "Queens of the Stone Age" this track is a personal fave

  • they are a great band. The album takes some time to sink in,but it sticks with you, cant wait for the 2010 album. Remember in the early days Zeppelin could nt get much backing from USA either. Best Ive heard in a long while !! my .02

  • They were brilliant at ACL!

  • I guess you've listened through the whole record, but if not: this is one of the weakest tracks on the record.

  • It's a solid song, it's just not what their listeners are accustom to. Technically/musically, it's solid and well delivered. I like it.

  • look up gunman. great tune

  • such great musicians.

  • I want QOTSA back =[

  • there done srry dude.

  • hahaha, yeah right... You'll see them again, THIS YEAR.

  • QOTSA is touring the re-release of their self-titled album this year

  • @Dangilman GOOD SHIT!

  • really?

  • Yes, sir. After an interview, they keep the camera rolling and he says that he's going to re-release the album and do a tour of those songs, plus bonus track (The Bronze, etc...).

  • I'm assuming without Nick again? Such a drag the way that whole thing happened.

  • @cranie4 this isn't queens of the stone age bro, so yeah, without nick

  • I know THIS isn't QOTSA..it's TCV. I was commenting on Dangilman's post.

  • No mention of Nick. Maybe some day, because anything can happen... One day, I'd like to see "You Would Know" performed with Nick, because Nick gets all fucked up and does a creepy robot.
