  • I wish this film was available to view somewhere. I don't want to own it, just want to see it for old time's sake.

  • Forget the chief, Get Smart!

  • Does anyone know if this can be purchased on Amazon or some other site? Alot of these old sci-fi classics are hard to find in most video stores or Walmart, Best Buy,etc.

  • @MrKurt1962 Its available at Amazon and Ebay.

  • Well, I miss the man-beasts, the triangle arena and the death-ray frying the bad guy, but this has the cool big idol, the submarine and the final destruction. Campy pulp at its best. Yes, it's far from George Pal's finest but I loved it as a kid.

  • what's greek for "holy shit, what a bitch"?

  • lol--this was a fairly low-budget movie so the producers no doubt scrounged around the MGM lot for anything that might look good in the film. To make things more complicated, some of the footage of the destruction of Atlantis appears 24 years later in the 1985 Lou Ferrigno film "The Adventures of Hercules" . Try and figure out when the events in that film were supposed to have occurred!

  • Hate to say this, but at the timeline of Atlantis,ca 10,000 BC, the Greek civilzation as depicted in this film didn`t exist. The left over sets from "Quo Vadis" would date this film to the 1st century AD.The galleys floating in the harbor seem to be leftover models from "Ben Hur", but it still is a very entertaining film onetheless.

  • @loufalce Oh yeah? And how about the fish shaped submarine. Would you say THAT was correct to the period?

  • @AppallingRetroTrash ...Definately 19 c. steampunk, but I always thought it was pretty cool. If Atlantis was the advanced civilization it was supposed to be, maybe they did exist, Sometimes you just gotta suspend belief, go with the flow and enjoy a movie for what it is,

  • I'd have thrown that b***h overboard LONG before the sub ever showed up!

  • @theshadow1932 lol, you obviously aren't a guy, or at least not a straight guy

  • @drystyx Don't make any rash assumptions, pal. 'Never said what Id'a done FIRST!

  • @theshadow1932 Then that makes you even worse.... lol

  • They also had a gladiator like contest between Demetrius and the giant in a huge arena situated in a pit that quickly filled with water adding to the teachery and excitement of the spectators.Demetrius prevails and the giant ends up floating faced down in the pool. Lastly , the huge many-sided chunk of quartz on wheels that could be aimed in any direction emitting a devastating laser-ray. Prior to '72 movie ratings were not enforced and it was fair game for kids as long as you had .75 with you.

  • I saw the movie at the theater in 1961 and was only 5.It was traumatic and bizarre for a small child to experience. Their was one scene where men were captured and enslaved, transforming them into half-human and half-bull heads. The frightening thing about it was that some of the captives were in different stages of metamorphasis and big bull-like flared nostrils began to form accompanied by grunting and hissing.

  • Thanks for posting this, I've wanted to see this movie for a while.

  • The LAST Golden~Era of Fantasy Film I saw on TNT before they SUNK MoNsTeRvIsIoN......1994

  • huh. you pulled it off. the highlights of the movie. i saw this back in the 1960's. i was in jr. high. the only thing i miss is the bad guy getting skeletonized by the heat ray.

  • How cool to see the late great John Dall, who plays the chief nogoodnik in this flick. They've even bleached his hair! I think Mr Dall was a very underated & underused actor...he's probably best known for 3 films: "The Corn is Green" (he got an Oscar nomination!), Hitchcock's "Rope" & the film noir classic "Gun Crazy". Sadly, this was Mr Dall's last film. He died much too soon in the early 70s when only around aged 53. Thanks for posting this exciting footage! :)

  • Man!!! What IS IT with you that you had to chop off that FUCKING MAGNIFICENT EXPLOSION OF THE ISLAND?!!!!!! That was one helluva great special effects sequence! And you done cut it off? CRUEL, CRUEL, CRUEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Will they ever release this on DVD? The picture quality of this abridged video is much better than my VHS copy--unfortunately I can now see what a low budget movie this was (due to MGM's lack in interest in the project) featuring cheap sets and miniatures. lol. Joyce Taylor is beautiful. I can't believe this film is 50 years old!! I like this film more than the 3D Clash of the Titans.

  • @waverly2468 The movie is available now on DVD at wbshop.com. When you get there, use their Search to find the movie. It costs $19.95.
