@lalunette If Harper and myself are so dumb how was he able to win a majority. Liberals suck,Michael Ignatieff sucks. The whole Liberal party and CBC stink like cow chips on the farm. It sure sucks to be you.
@lalunette If you use that logic then no one in Canadian history has ever had a majority. I find it funny how left wing people like to twist things for their own view. Stop being such sissy.
@backtosleep I am only highlighting the fact that MORE Canadians voted against Harper than agasint any other politicians in the past and yet he and his cronies are in charge (and I use the word loosely) of Canada.
The sooner Canadians see him for what he is the better.
@lalunette The sooner Canadians see him for what he is the better. I agree then they will vote him in again with another majority. You should vote for harper next time. I know deep down you want to. You will feel so much better. Come join the winning side. It's like they say if you can't beat us join us.
@lalunette you just dont know when to shut up do you. your probably an immagrant who only hates harper because of what everyone else tells you, ive met him and hes a nice guy. what he does as primeminister is what he is told to do...your really think the major corporations want world peace?? or more money to make ppl healthier...come on man wake up!! most pharmasuticle drugs arent even approved and yet ppl get them over the counter. but i bet you already knew that didnt you.
@SSFTC "immagrant" What is that? Maybe you meant to spell "immigrant"? English is not my first language and yet I know how to spell. If you meant "immigrant" then, no, I'm not a new Canadian. My family has been in Canada so long the place used to be called New France. Perhaps this tells you why I don't like Harper and his fascist minions. They have no respect for this great country and don't give a tinker's cuss for anything but their bigoted WASP attitudes.
@lalunette sooo your french...great... i cant say anything bad about the french i work with them everyday and they are good people. the language barrier is a bit much at times tho.
@SSFTC "sooo your french" No, I'm a Canadian, of French background. I also have Ojibwee and Irish in my ancestry. If you find the language barrier a bit much you should endeavour to learn Canada's other official language, as I have done. I also went to university and studied political science so I understand where Harper's hate for all things liberal comes from and why he is out to destroy the Canada I know and love. Can you say the same?
@lalunette it sounds like your hideing behind your personification of yourself. you dont like ppl calling you out, hahaha thats funny. i know enough french to understand it. everything ive learned about politics is from research on my own time, and conversations with ppl smarter than me. i fight for this country regardless of who is in power at the time. half my ancestry built toronto and the other half landed on newfoundland way back when they were called vikings. i come from warrior blood.
@lalunette i knew it your selfish... your kinda right in a way you know, he will eventually go back under the rock. unfortunetly for you it wont because you had anything to do with it. here is the proof - google "underground bunkers for the elite"
The Conservative Party of Canada is more socialist than both the Liberals and NDP. Socialism does NOT equate to Communism. The difference is: Communism is an economic policy of 100% control, socialism is a social policy of 100% control. The Cons.are tying their social policy directly to economic policy, it's STILL a social policy. Anybody who has opinions about how other people ought to be organized is leaning towards socialism.
The Latin counterpart of Reich is not imperium, but rather regnum. Both terms translate to "rule, sovereignty, government", usually of monarchs (kings or
German title meaning leader or guide now most associated with Adolf Hitler, who modelled it on Benito Mussolini's title il Duce, The word Führer in the sense of guide remains common in German
specially at the time in the middle of a gas crisis. all harper does to win elections is bash his opposition and tarnish there rep.... that's it. he sounds like a hockey player doing an interview besides that. our parliment has been a disaster since chretien... who said no to war before retiring for the record. like a circus literally. and the rich spoiled kid(harper) got his way in the end.
your just lucky there's no one else even decent to vote for. and just so you know, a real leader would be wise and brave. chretien was right to say we won't go to iraq. sure harper was getting big handouts back then. i mean stop wanting to frac drill so much and deregulating everything tied to it. it's shouldn't even be yours to decide. why we handed out money to car companies without a promise to mass produce only electic cars i can't explain except gas companies OWN you sellout.
@MrEttolruf you know you can make an electric car...right??? you dont need to follow what the mass tells you to do. 1 man went agaisnt the federal court more than once, to not pay taxes and won..everytime...he lives in BC and no hes not a native. this was a few years ago. although our govnt isnt the best just be thank full you dont live in liberia or N.Korea where they dont even have the choice to own a car or have enough money to buy one. be thank full you have rights and freedoms as it stands.
They did a smear campaign here in BC against the conservatives during the national election. Trying to tie the conservatives to anything bigoted etc. They even attacked one conservative for suggesting that gay people don't need their own version of the bill of rights. They attacked another conservative because she once gave a speech at a school in Canada that got a donation from a man who allegedly had ties to terrorists. This, on news program that was at the time boasting about a national award!
What has he done that can be categorized as treason. You're just a dumb liberal (repeating myself, sorry) who is too stupid to think for himself and make his own opinions. Go kill yourself, stop draining Canada's money reserves for your welfare, and wasting everybody's time.
he sold the tar sands for less then they were worth and removed all regulations surrounding it. putting gas companies interest in front of albetra farmers interests. frack drilling doesn't create alot of long term jobs and just makes the rich richer and now he wants eastern canada. the most valuable thing on this planet will soon be water and frack drilling will destroy our water. when we try to save our car industry with handouts why weren't they forced to mass produce electric cars. = jobs
Now now, let's not stoop to their level, though it is hard. I often smile when I read some of the left wing comments "you must be stupid, insane, redneck, etc. to vote conservative" ad hominem attacks...reminds me of the sore loser in the playground that, eventually, no one really likes.
@Jim1905 Well tell us then, oh enlightened one, why did you vote for Harper?
Honestly, what has his government done to earn your vote? I just don't see any real policy changes coming out of a Harper majority that will be positive for Canadians, but I guess you do. What are they? I'd really like to know if there's a reason for an informed person to vote for this guy or his party, because I just can't see one.
@Keinlicht With the majority we can expect some upper house reforms like 8 year terms. Also, the funding of political parties will end as will the long gun snapfullia.
We will enjoy 4 i/2 years of things getting done and no elections. The opposition will not dominate the committies so they also will be able to work properly and not be used as an election ploy.
We can expect some good new laws on crime punishment and a safer Canada.
@justanoldman1 Huh, well thats an interesting take on things..
But I just don't see the PM who's appointed the most Senators in history taking upper house reform seriously. Though the long gun registry will hopefully die, I dont see how ending funding for parties is good for democracy at all.
As for crime and punishment, here I strongly disagree. Harper is likely to impose mandatory minimums on Marijuana, and make the medicinal system work even more poorly. Canada will be anything but safer.
@Keinlicht If you would hid your dislike for the man for a moment and just think about it. He must have a majority in the senate and some of the early conservatives are not on board with the term changes and he therefore must pack in supporters in order to get the numbers he needs for change.
Murderers out on parole after only a few years, you got to be kidding. We need much stronger laws and punishment for serious offenders. Pot is another matter, their stand will soften.
@justanoldman1 You're grasping. You really are. I know the insanity plea in Canadian law has been exploited as of recent, (although without case details I find it harder to make a judgement than you) and I would like to see that changed, but the fact is that these are minor details.
You've got it right though. I hate Harper. I want his head on a pike. His foreign policy is a joke. He has no economic plans. He uses American fear-politics and shows a penchant for police-state repression.
@Keinlicht I used to live in Comox but moved back east several years ago.
From your writting I can see you are more than a socialist, most likely a communist and probably a teacher or something like that. A person that never really worked for a living and has very liberal progressive views that would never work in the real world. What do you want to be when you grow up?
@justanoldman1 Why does my personal Identity or my aspirations matter to you? I'm not arguing for one particular Ideology or social construct. I wouldn't say I'm a communist, much less a teacher.
I'm simply saying there are real concerns about our current politico-economic system, and that our elected government is only making those concerns worse.
Why is it that I must be out of touch with your "Real World"? isnt it possible I've seen the same things as you and come to different conclusions?
@justanoldman1 And although I hate making two part comments..
Harper is a strong and unwavering advocate of the War on Drugs, despite not even being able to form an argument for it. He is a staunch advocate of our current Corporatist system (In my opinion, the largest obstacle to revocable Democracy). He's aligned himself with and given money to a reactionary, right wing regime which conducts ongoing and harsh military occupation. He's stalled our Environmental policy. To me, he's poison.
@Keinlicht Well we are at opposite ends of the political spectrium. I am a strong conservative and I find that our Prime Minister is way to far to the left to even be called a conservative. The Conservative party of Canada is really where the Liberal party of years back used to be. It is what we call center.
I want less government, more freedom for business including hospitals and clinics. I want our prisions run by business and anything else that should be more efficient as governments are not.
@justanoldman1 I guess we are, I find that all politics are far too right-leaning (though the left serves to bound thought, and is complicit as well).
I too want less government (Ideally, none!) but I put it to you, how can true democracy exist alongside the Corporation in its current form? Concentrating power and wealth in the hands of arbitrary bureaucracy, and giving it more rights than any citizen seems madness to me. On top of this, I don't see that corporations are efficient. At all.
@Keinlicht And I find the government far to left-leaning. I want to look after myself, I don't want the government doing it for me.
Corporations make money, governments spend money therefore it is much more effective to have corporations running things. If health care was run by corporations it would not cost us about 50% of all our taxes to run it. Our welfare system is broken and should be scrapped, it is full of lazy bums that don't want to work., same with housing projects.
@Keinlicht It should be that if you work harder you make more money but no, the government takes more from you if you earn more. That is not fair. We are here working to support a bloated government filled with lazy unionized bums that don't even know how to work.
First thing I would do is ban all unions and jail the leaders for life. Second, I would cut the salaries of government workers in half and if they don't like it they could quit and find a real job.
@justanoldman1 So you're an advocate of supreme Private Tyranny? That's great. You're the problem we have to get over. We have to stop blaming the problems in our society on Lethargy; a red herring for the uninformed and weak of mind. If you'd stop spouting non-sequiters and think for a second you'd see that Unions are paramount, that Progressive tax schemes (taking more money from people who HAVE more money) make perfect sense. Your social darwinism is a repulsive disgrace to human thought.
@Keinlicht I knew you would get around to name calling, the loonie left always do.
When you go out to eat, the diner does not have different menus according to your income, everyone pays the same. | would like to see a flat tax for everyone, starting with your first dollar, that way everyone would pay the same and we would have no need to file inlcome taxes. Say 2 cents of every dollar you earn goes to the government period. This would stop selfare fraud and the loonies like you.
@justanoldman1 I love how I insult you for your ideas, the things you've argued for. In return apparently I'm a 'loon' a 'bleeding heart liberal scumbag' and a 'communist'.
You know, if you were trying to present yourself as the civil one, you failed miserably. I dont disagree fundamentally with a flat tax scheme, but progressive taxes aren't the evil you make them out to be. Your ideas are outdated garbage, they ignore the fundamental needs of sustainable human society, and I hope they die out
@Keinlicht Thank god there are still about 40% of inteligent thinking people that support our Prime Minister Mr. Harper. I am not surprised that idiots like you do not.
@Keinlicht hes a pawn, he is symbol, a name and face to blame nothing more. poison?? obviously your idea of government is sooo far left sided you could be considered poison aswell..
@SSFTC You're an idiot if you think that I believe that Harper is all that is wrong with Canadian politics.
He is though, as you've said, a symbol. A symbol for how we're accelerating our dependency on the failing American empire, all while trying to emulate it.
Also, you seem to be one of those "left wing people think government is the solution" type airheads. I assure you, I have no love for the state.
@Keinlicht another thing mr left wing, we need a strong fighting military force right now, the russians are 10 times stronger than us and they want our arctic... please tell me youd fight for this land we call home??????
The americans are the ones who want OUR arctic, the russians only want to pre-empt american control of that zone. And yes. I would die with a rifle in my hand to fight for this country, but I don't think I'll ever get the chance.
@Keinlicht your opinion of my is just that an opinion. which is completely irrelevant to this subject. join the army then, "deeds not words" JTF2 motto... no i dont think left wing government is the answer i think if we the people had all the power we wouldnt have anything at but a huge mess.. soo we need one leader someone righteous and true. someone who doesnt want the job of the primeminister. a wiseman perhaps?
@SSFTC Again, I would die for this country. Joining the army would see me die for a piece of dirt somewhere in afghanistan, or wherever messiah harper decides we need to shed blood next. Iran perhaps?
See, the problem with the "we need a righteous leader" midset is that it ignores the sources of power in our society, which hold overwhelming sway no matter the nobility of the character of the leader. What we need instead is a democracy that actually works.
@Keinlicht i will agree with one thing you said here tho is that we do need something better. but what can we make out of this junk? we have to let it fail in order to make it better. is a democracy a good call?? im gonna say no but hey im just the idiot what do i know about being in charge. im gonna assume your a free thinker and if you are then you know that democracy isnt the best deal for us.
@SSFTC When I say "a democracy that actually works" I'm not envisioning the piddling wilsonian insanity that has come to be known as "democracy" to the mass media, but something far different.
I'm sorry, but I just don't see how a system of governance based on the principle of cooperative decisionmaking is "not the best deal". Any alternative would see us governed by an arbitrary oligarchy, as we are today.
@Keinlicht the US doesnt want out artic they want the resources, the russians want the arctic to have tactical advantage over the states. so no im not an idiot, i just see it from a different perspective. you want some advice, before calling ppl stupid you might want to take a step back and look at the bigger picture, i see alot of ppl on here dont do that.
@SSFTC No, I don't want some advice. Especially not from a person trying to start an argument on youtube.
Your ideas are linked with yourself, and from my perspective your ideas are idiotic. Thus I have no qualms about calling you what I think you are.
Either way these spurious statements about foreign policy don't really amount to anything. Canada, Russia and the US are all vying for arctic resources, but I just don't see a war coming out of it. Not unless something drastic changes.
@Keinlicht your opinion is invalid, im not trying to start one, i already have. ive read most of your comments and i can tell your an intelligent person. unfortunetly your so smart your stupid. Democracy doesnt solve our problems when was Canada a democracy??? im haveing a hard time to recall a time of when it was one. spurious statements? come on dude is that necessary? being a smart person yourself would know its a smart thing to explore different ways of doing things.
@SSFTC Fair enough, I'm easily provoked. But you ought to realize that all we're doing here is presenting our opinions.
Canada is a democracy right now, though in name only. Honestly I don't think anything that could be rightfully called "democratic" has ever existed in north america.
Also im not sure you know what I meant by spurious statements. Its just that any statement either of us could make about arctic politics is based off of very little information, and would be of little value.
@Keinlicht i know what you meant. i said that because i have credible sources which i wont say on here, that have confirmed that infromation..im around that stuff all day long.
@SSFTC Well you followed up with "being a smart person yourself would know its a smart thing to explore different ways of doing things." which doesn't make any sense in context.
@Keinlicht Neither can liberals when it comes to freedom and fiscal responsibility. And don't pull a George Bush on me, because he was no conservative.
@rhinnawi95 I'm not vouching for the Liberal party, or 'liberals' in general. But when a government who's "Conservative" has the largest deficit since the second world war, they've not exactly stuck to their principals.
And where the fuck are you getting the idea that Bush wasn't a conservative? I'm sure the American christian right would strongly disagree.
@Keinlicht Are you talking about Canada or the US here? Sorry, I'm getting a little mixed up. I know that our Democrats in the US have run up our largest deficit, though, and that our "conservatives" are too interventionist (GOP). I prefer George Washington's warning of staying out of foreign affairs.
And a growing number of those part of the Christian right would definitely agree, especially with his "PATRIOT" Act (that both parties are extending) and his Keynesian economic policies.
@rhinnawi95 Lol "Keynesian economic policies" thats a good one. As if Kenya is allowed its own economic policies.
Regardless, I was talking about Canada. The country in which I live, and believe I am watching go down the drain.. The US system I regard as hopeless. Both parties are merely different factions of the Business party, openly taking huge sums in 'donations' from the corporate world. I'm glad at least you recognize the GOP for the protectionist imbeciles they tend to be.
@Keinlicht I said "Keynesian", not Kenyan. Look it up. It's that deficit spending nonsense that's sending us down the drain. The problem with our system is the size of our government. They're too controlling, especially at the federal level. This is why people prefer states' rights (a lot do), but our politicians just bullshit through everything.
As for the "business" parties, the Democrats are actually the "hurt the poor, hate the rich, cause dissent and bow down to unions" party.
@Keinlicht As for the GOP, they're the "bow down to big business and still be big government, despite talking about a small government and less spending" party. Both are the "interest groups and uber-militaristic" parties. I'm a huge Ron Paul fan, mainly because he wants to really downsize the federal government, and that's what I'm worried about. His consistency is amazing, too.
Good luck in Canada, though. I'd recommend a more libertarian system at the national level. Province rights? haha
@rhinnawi95 Thanks, but I honestly don't see how either country can expect to improve much right now. I feel that changes in Government policy will be superficial at best until the true sources of power are dealt with. That is to say, no significant gains on the matter of human rights can be made as long as what I call and what I think can justly be referred to as the system of Corporate Autocracy, is dealt with.
Incidentally, how is it the Democrats hurt the poor? Im not familiar.
@Keinlicht Sure they're backed by unions, who are helpful in allowing people to have good working conditions for their members (though they take their money), but they take it to the extremes and so companies have to pay their empoloyees a lot of money often, resulting in them having less money for hiring other employess. Democrats are also big on the whole welfare state thing, and the problem with that is that they get people dependent on it. They are also ignorant on illegal immigration -->
@Keinlicht -->, and them being lenient allows more illegals to get jobs and less hard-working (or just unlucky) poor citizens to be able to obtain those jobs. They come up with ideas that sound good but don't work (like "tax the rich even more", giving them less money for spending and employing). When the rich buy good stuff, who makes them? Poor workers. Though many are in China, there would be more with more business-friendly policies.
@Keinlicht The same appeal to socialistic/liberal progressive ideas also keeps them in power for local governments including inner cities (some haven't had conservative leadership in over seven decades), and look at how well those are doing. Some of the most liberal and poorest cities, such as Detroit, are also in complete ruins.
@rhinnawi95 Well I would argue Detroit is the result of 'Free-Trade' agreements allowing outsourcing during the Reagen years, but I digress.
Thanks for explaining that though, its interesting to see how far working conditions have degraded that Unions can be a problem. Though Illegal immigration i think is a larger problem due to a combination of American 'intervention' in central america, as well as mexican/american drug policy causing turmoil. Though that just deals with the source.
@Keinlicht I'm actually more economically protectionist, so personally, I favor an import tariff and to end free trade organizations (NAFTA, for example), but still allow the practice itself (with that tariff). And as a huge Ron Paul fan, I can't stand our foreign policy. We buy our friends and create enemies with our interventionism and rely on foreign nations for oil when we have a huge load over here. Sure we can go clean, but we need "unclean" energy sources for the research and development.
@rhinnawi95 I meant protectionist in the sense of the nanny state; funding Corporations directly or indirectly in order to outcompete international competition and foster Monopoly.
Though I think there's something to be said for 'unclean' energy being necessary for R&D of renewables, I think that the fact that north american nations have explicitly neglected decentralized, renewable power production and reduced carbon emissions is a testament to how out of touch politics and business is.
@Keinlicht Oh yeah, our government is definitely in bed with businesses (corporations and unions alike).
As for renewable power production, I'm actually a huge nuclear energy fan, as long as we don't follow Japan's footsteps and build on fault lines and such. I personally don't believe in man-caused global warming, but a green economy could be a much healthier, and ultimately cheaper one, and healthwise and environmentally, it's good. As a Christian, I don't want to harm God's creation.
@rhinnawi95 Well, the scientific community disagrees with you on the question of AGW (global warming), and I personally think there's ample reason to believe Big business and other special interests have been trying to sow doubt about the consensus. I'm opposed to nuclear power, for the simple reason that, again, the fuel is limited, and there are very significant dangers. We just can't afford an accident every 50 years.
I'm happy to hear a Christian with respect for God's creation, though :)
@Keinlicht All that matters is that we both want clean energy, and I personally think the man-caused global warming thing is a hoax for more government control. But yeah, a Christian who degrades God's creation in any way (including one's self, in my opinion) isn't doing a good job at being a good Christian, but that's just me.
Right now, though, nuclear plants provide a lot of energy. Accidents happen with all sorts of things. We just need care. Other power sources aren't as powerful.
@rhinnawi95 While I do see that there is the potential for power systems such as the Government to exploit global warming to gain control (such as with other crises like 9/11), I don't think that matters as to whether or not climate change has been caused/enhanced by human activity.
I'm ok with using nuclear power as a temporary resource, but the high risk of widespread irradiation makes it inviable in my opinion, over the long term. The fewer potential species-ending activities the better.
@Keinlicht The problem is that solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectric power, geothermal; all scarce or too weak (or both). I'm sure once civilization expands into space, it should get easier with the nuclear power and such. I know solar plants on the moons north and south poles would provide a lot of power for any moon colonies. That should help with the population, too.
When I had lived in the West Bank for a year, we used solar energy for water heating, and it didn't last two showers a day.
@rhinnawi95 Hmm I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. There's plenty enough wind/solar energy to meet demand, especially if the living arrangement were changed(As I believe it will be), I think. Further, I think that it's entirely feasible that a combination of these along with power-saving lighting (OLED's, anyone?) could meet world demand and more. But that remains to be seen.
Also.. The West Bank? I'm sorry but do you mean the Palestinian west bank?
@Keinlicht Yeah, that West Bank. Character limitations are annoying to work around. For now, though, green energy is too expensive and not as efficient as needed. Like I said, solar power is no good. I've always wanted one of those buildings where the building itself takes in indirect solar energy that can be used to power stuff and moderate the house temperature. However, can you imagine the cost of that? That's the problem. And it would help, but not a lot. We need to get to space, though.
@Keinlicht Space for reasons I stated above* (dang character limitations...). As for OLEDs, people aren't working hard enough to get those out there, you know?
@rhinnawi95 Well I think you've got some rather innovative ideas, moving into space-based nuclear power definitely sounds like quite the opportunity once we standardize low (energy-)cost spaceflight.
I think that we should be moving towards that type of housing though, even if 100% energy-independent housing isn't feasible at this standard of living, the closer we can get to that goal the better off we'll be. Even if that just means solar panel roofing, we should still be trying.
@Keinlicht I just hope we could get ideas like this going without some of the right completely ignoring the idea of being environmentally friendly and most of the left wanting the government to head all this. Lucky for us, a lot of the private sector is trying to go more green and researching and innovating. Like what happened with computers (a few years ago, a 1 Ghz processor was like lightening), I'm sure this market would also boom. We just need more supply and demand (more supply for costs).
@rhinnawi95 Hmm, I would argue that the Private sector just doesn't have the motivation to develop true green technologies, though there are some limited incentives, the main reason 'green' technology is starting up in the private sector is simply for PR reasons.
The problem then is that Gov't wants more power through developing green tech, and industry is too selfish to put more than a token amount of money towards it. Also, i think rapid growth of high tech industry is a result of subsidies.
@Keinlicht Haha, either way, nobody wins. And no matter the reason, at least they are moving towards more green technology and manufacturing and such. And once the government gets ahold of everything, they'll only move to gain even more power, which is all they really care about, untill they get voted out of course, and that's as long as the voting process manages to stay available. Haha, as you can tell, I'm no fan of this necessary evil.
@rhinnawi95 Well i'm not entirely sure the evil is 'necessary', at least in the long run, but I digress. I think that although letting the Gov't gain so much power over energy programs isn't a good idea, it's unlikely that the 'green' market will boom the way that we'd want it to. Put simply, the suburban lifestyle that most in north america enjoy isn't that viable a customer base for green tech (except maybe the electric car - which has been feasible transport for commuters for decades).
@Keinlicht I wouldn't mind allowing some regulation, but with that come the extreme power-grabs by the government. Look at how much greener we are than we were even a decade ago. Cars are becoming more fuel-efficient, for example. GMC had a great hydrogen-powered car, and then came the government takeover. That died (though it wasn't the first, it was still great and with even great potential). With all the extra government regulations, innovation is as unappealing as money making is appealing.
@rhinnawi95 I accept your premise but reject your example: the hydrogen-powered vehicle is only viable for commuter transport because of the high energy cost to get hydrogen from Methane or Water, it's wasteful and destructive to use it in personal vehicles.
This is why I oppose the Corporate business model, it's highly unaccountable and inefficient at producing goods its owners (or shareholders) may dislike. The only way to abolish Gov't Tyranny, I think, is to abolish Corporate Tyranny.
@Keinlicht Somebody told me that in Great Britain, corporations cannot donate to candidates during any elections. Maybe we can adopt a similar system here (at least USA. I don't know about Canada), while applying it to unions as well. This way, neither unions nor corporations can corrupt our candidates. It comes down to what the people want.
As for the clean energy thing, if what you're saying is true, then that might not be the best example, but it's a start. No emissions or gasoline.
@rhinnawi95 Canada has a maximum donation limit for all citizens (including corporations and unions - about $1000) but while I think that solves the whole 'sanctioned bribery' thing the US has going on, it still fails to address what I think is the core problem facing true democracy - a production industry run by autocracy.
I think that a Worker-owned, Democratic style of business organization must replace the Corporate one for us to even start down the road to a truly workable society.
@rhinnawi95 Okay, here's the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland, since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet, all of you.
@justanoldman1 Trust me, I consider this stuff. I'm talking more of being more environmentally friendly as opposed to fight this "global warming problem" I don't back.
@rhinnawi95 I don't really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in its entire YEARS on earth. Yes folks, Mt Pinatubo was active for over one year, think about it.
@justanoldman1 I'm talking about going green for environmental and economic purposes. If you read my first replies, I don't back the man-caused global warming view. I also know that pollution can worsen the health of people in cities and create some waste that can destroy ecosystems (river pollution and such). As a Christian, I don't want to destroy God's creation. However, I don't want the government behind it all or to be very extreme about it (some want the world population at 250 million).
If the ballots had a box that said "None of the Above" I would check it as all of these megalomaniacs do not have my support. I know many Canadians feel the same way. Vote Green in protest. At least you know they are honest about their platforms. This guy is a Republican butt muncher.
Haha, I'm a little young (15) but I have an interest in politics, everyone I know seems to be blindly throwing out their red banners in support for Ignatieff's Liberals, however I come from a very Conservative family... sort of in the middle you see? Can someone give me some solid reasons to vote one way or another? I know I can't vote, and no matter what I say will stop my family from voting Conservative, but it's just curiosity.. So who are you voting for and why?
@SantiagoxMartinez . Here is a breakdown. I will start with NDP party. Jack Layton His economic platform is so idiotic, I would not vote for him just for that reason. The Liberals for the last like 15 years or sooo have had a strong majority they had there turn and hardly did anything besides keeping Canadian banks away from US buyers. Which is good that's about it. Vote conservative give harper the majority see what he can do. He cant do much under a minority government.
@ukrainepunk180 Looks like you got your wish, lets hope Canada made the right choice... It will be interesting for me to see what happens since this is the first election I really payed allot of attention to.
Hey does anyone else think Harper looks like John de Lancie who acts as "Q" from Star Trek? He certainly shares the ambitions and manipulative desires of the "Q"
@gattystu Do you ever think before you preach your opinion, or do you just type nonsense and hope that people will believe and agree with your pathetic views. You're telling people to not vote; you're promoting a government which would not be elected by the people and thus forth no longer be a democratic government.
@gattystu "HEY EVERYONE, I HATE THE SYSTEM, BUT HAVE NO IDEAS HOW TO FIX IT. ANYONE WHO DOESN'T BURY THEIR HEAD IN THE SAND IS AN IDIOT." Thanks for nothing, dumb dumb.
I wont vote again. because I am single guy and have no family here in Canada. All I hear is their plan for families. But I pay a lot more tax than a family and never use health care and seems to be ignored. They are not representing me and I am not voting for any of this gold diggers. :)
Good thing we had Harper during the economic explosion. Saved us from massive fallout. Can you imagine where we would be right now if the Liberals were in power when the bottom fell out? The country would be out of money; out of work; out of food and the Liberals would STILL tax us on what we lost so he can party it up with his cronies in the US. Hell, Iggy gets it and we WILL become the 52nd state. GO HARPER!!!!
@svoteary Really? Do you even have a clue as to what the Conservatives have done? First of all, they destroyed our surplus (created by the liberals), so I'm not sure where you're getting your supposed result of our country being out of money. Corporate tax cuts have been proven to have hardly any effect on job creation (and our tax rate is already extremely low, go google it if you don't believe me). And Harper is moving Canada to be more like the US than the Liberals would
@Handshotter The Liberals wouldnt know what a surplus looks like if it came running and slapped them in the face. Libs know surely how to spend like its going out of style. If they cant afford it, dont worry, theres another tax they can create to MAKE you pay for it. As for moving to an American system ... show me. Give up undeniable proof. You think the government will always carry your sorry ass? Think again. Its time we had some leadership in this country. Thank God Harper came along!
@svoteary Yea, that's why the we had a surplus right up until the Conservatives made the largest deficit in Canadian history. And yes, they do spend, but they have a higher income because they don't cut corporate taxes when they really don't need to be cut. And a quick example off the top of my head is increased military spending (fighter jets), the general stance of Conservatives towards gay rights, their stance on abortion, and Harper's view on how health care should be more privatized
@Handshotter I'd go back and take a really REALLY close look at recent history. Lets check under the Chretien regime. Biggest downturn in Canada's history next to, oh lets see, Trudeau. What a clusterfuck he was. STILL paying for his fuck up. Oh the list goes on and on and on. Tell you what. You think Ignatieff is so great? Go to the US and see how things will be if that asshole gets into power
@svoteary Are you high? I mean literally and 100% of the time?
Conservatives destroyed and has spent surplus made by liberals... Harper cut taxes to companies which would support any needs we'd have, he wants to buy planes we don't need for wars I'm not sure when. Jobs on the east coast both on land and at sea as never been so low. Foreign inverstors are stealing every bit of ressources we have...
@tankusfred Now dont be jealous. If youd get your head out of your ass and the weed out of your lungs and have been around long enough, youd know the true history of the Liberals. Its ok little boy, go back to your sandbox where you can bury your head
@svoteary First, there is more than 2 parties... secondly : At what point does any of what the liberals or conservatives or ANY party in the history of man whatsoever did in the past changes any facts about the present? Who fucking cares if a SAINT founded the conservatives OR liberals? Conservative since they arrived in power in the 21st century made the most half-ass decisions in the quarter century I've been living and I don't need to be 55 years old to take history lesson you damn redneck!
... handing over my authority to another REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY is insane & has never work !
~recent examples of system's insanity:
-the hesionization of our PeaceKeepers in UNdoing of our NATO at Libya;
+now to boot, not even a hoot about Fukushima Radiation Fallout, which we have been inflicted with at least twice since 18 hours after the monitoring system on the W.coast was stood down by STEVEN HARPER GOVERNMENT!
>REAL CANADIAN DEMOCRACY it be for me, not one of you talks such fate
I posted a web page titled "Conservative, Liberal or Neither" by JJ Rousso
You will be surprised (or not) learning whom both leading parties represent.
It is on the same blog as below.
If you are interested to an entirely different perspective....then just Google search "The History of Banking Fraud - Short Inspiring Stories by Bill Woollam"
@bumzurvaj ...what kind of morality dictates that the name on the letter head should be changed from the corporate representation GOVERNMENT OF CANADA to read THE HARPER GOVERNMENT,
~ why am I again forced to pay for his advertisement,
=this reaks of fraud which not one representative lawyer has dealt with in court !
you know what screw ndp and liberal bringing in billions of dollars a year for this country by legalizing and taxing pot. and saving the environment through using hemp for wood and paper saving deforestation and using it for fuel saving us from losing our natural resources. ill vote for harper to give out cooperate tax cuts and spend millions of tax dollars on the unwinnable drug war aggainst cannabis, instead of putting it to better cause. yeah right out with the conservatives!!!!
@freethechronic The NDP doesn't know how to do any of that. When you expect to be the opposition, you promise the moon. Now that the NDP have jumped into 2nd and will likely lead a coalition, Layton has shut his mouth, thinking "oh shit, you mean I'll have to back up what I said"? Scary thought.
Democracy is to many the pinnacle of modern society. Yet, if there was a quiz voters were given to earn the right to vote, how many would pass? And if there was an audit applied to each statement/promise made by politicians, how do you suppose they would do? What if you found out where all the lobby money goes? Would it seem like a fair and worthy structure? Since my local politician has to stick to the party line, what function does he or she provide?
I don't think anything a politician says or does is unrelated to their re-election effort. That will always take priority in everything they say or do. It is the reason the country is in debt, it is the reason taxes are so absurd and the reason the good of the corporations takes precedence over what actually makes sense. If politicians didn't require re-election their best efforts would be to the right thing. And it won't change as long as there is blind adherence to the word Democracy.
@JimmyTheKirkie Spending what you don't have causes debt regardless of any other influences. Recession by definition means a reduction in spending, but since there is also more money being printed causing inflation, ask - where is the money going? Could it be the current (democratic) system is simply inefficient to the point of collapse? Consider democracy being just a step in the right direction.
he got his majority but hardly anyone voted. bet if there was a box that said vote of no confidence in any of them it woulda won.

@backtosleep - That's just it... Harper didn't win a majority. Sixty percent of voters chose someone else.

I also went to university and studied political science so I understand where Harper's hate for all things liberal comes from and why he is out to destroy the Canada I know and love. Can you say the same?

The Conservative Party of Canada is more socialist than both the Liberals and NDP. Socialism does NOT equate to Communism. The difference is: Communism is an economic policy of 100% control, socialism is a social policy of 100% control. The Cons.are tying their social policy directly to economic policy, it's STILL a social policy. Anybody who has opinions about how other people ought to be organized is leaning towards socialism.

What are they? I'd really like to know if there's a reason for an informed person to vote for this guy or his party, because I just can't see one.
Keinlicht 9 months ago
@Keinlicht With the majority we can expect some upper house reforms like 8 year terms. Also, the funding of political parties will end as will the long gun snapfullia.
We will enjoy 4 i/2 years of things getting done and no elections. The opposition will not dominate the committies so they also will be able to work properly and not be used as an election ploy.
We can expect some good new laws on crime punishment and a safer Canada.
justanoldman1 9 months ago
@justanoldman1 Huh, well thats an interesting take on things..
But I just don't see the PM who's appointed the most Senators in history taking upper house reform seriously. Though the long gun registry will hopefully die, I dont see how ending funding for parties is good for democracy at all.
As for crime and punishment, here I strongly disagree. Harper is likely to impose mandatory minimums on Marijuana, and make the medicinal system work even more poorly. Canada will be anything but safer.
Keinlicht 9 months ago
@Keinlicht If you would hid your dislike for the man for a moment and just think about it. He must have a majority in the senate and some of the early conservatives are not on board with the term changes and he therefore must pack in supporters in order to get the numbers he needs for change.
Murderers out on parole after only a few years, you got to be kidding. We need much stronger laws and punishment for serious offenders. Pot is another matter, their stand will soften.
justanoldman1 9 months ago
@justanoldman1 You're grasping. You really are. I know the insanity plea in Canadian law has been exploited as of recent, (although without case details I find it harder to make a judgement than you) and I would like to see that changed, but the fact is that these are minor details.
You've got it right though. I hate Harper. I want his head on a pike. His foreign policy is a joke. He has no economic plans. He uses American fear-politics and shows a penchant for police-state repression.
Keinlicht 9 months ago
@Keinlicht I used to live in Comox but moved back east several years ago.
From your writting I can see you are more than a socialist, most likely a communist and probably a teacher or something like that. A person that never really worked for a living and has very liberal progressive views that would never work in the real world. What do you want to be when you grow up?
justanoldman1 9 months ago
@justanoldman1 Why does my personal Identity or my aspirations matter to you? I'm not arguing for one particular Ideology or social construct. I wouldn't say I'm a communist, much less a teacher.
I'm simply saying there are real concerns about our current politico-economic system, and that our elected government is only making those concerns worse.
Why is it that I must be out of touch with your "Real World"? isnt it possible I've seen the same things as you and come to different conclusions?
Keinlicht 9 months ago
@justanoldman1 And although I hate making two part comments..
Harper is a strong and unwavering advocate of the War on Drugs, despite not even being able to form an argument for it. He is a staunch advocate of our current Corporatist system (In my opinion, the largest obstacle to revocable Democracy). He's aligned himself with and given money to a reactionary, right wing regime which conducts ongoing and harsh military occupation. He's stalled our Environmental policy. To me, he's poison.
Keinlicht 9 months ago
@Keinlicht Well we are at opposite ends of the political spectrium. I am a strong conservative and I find that our Prime Minister is way to far to the left to even be called a conservative. The Conservative party of Canada is really where the Liberal party of years back used to be. It is what we call center.
I want less government, more freedom for business including hospitals and clinics. I want our prisions run by business and anything else that should be more efficient as governments are not.
justanoldman1 9 months ago
@justanoldman1 I guess we are, I find that all politics are far too right-leaning (though the left serves to bound thought, and is complicit as well).
I too want less government (Ideally, none!) but I put it to you, how can true democracy exist alongside the Corporation in its current form? Concentrating power and wealth in the hands of arbitrary bureaucracy, and giving it more rights than any citizen seems madness to me. On top of this, I don't see that corporations are efficient. At all.
Keinlicht 9 months ago
@Keinlicht And I find the government far to left-leaning. I want to look after myself, I don't want the government doing it for me.
Corporations make money, governments spend money therefore it is much more effective to have corporations running things. If health care was run by corporations it would not cost us about 50% of all our taxes to run it. Our welfare system is broken and should be scrapped, it is full of lazy bums that don't want to work., same with housing projects.
justanoldman1 8 months ago
@Keinlicht It should be that if you work harder you make more money but no, the government takes more from you if you earn more. That is not fair. We are here working to support a bloated government filled with lazy unionized bums that don't even know how to work.
First thing I would do is ban all unions and jail the leaders for life. Second, I would cut the salaries of government workers in half and if they don't like it they could quit and find a real job.
justanoldman1 8 months ago
@justanoldman1 So you're an advocate of supreme Private Tyranny? That's great. You're the problem we have to get over. We have to stop blaming the problems in our society on Lethargy; a red herring for the uninformed and weak of mind. If you'd stop spouting non-sequiters and think for a second you'd see that Unions are paramount, that Progressive tax schemes (taking more money from people who HAVE more money) make perfect sense. Your social darwinism is a repulsive disgrace to human thought.
Keinlicht 8 months ago
@Keinlicht I knew you would get around to name calling, the loonie left always do.
When you go out to eat, the diner does not have different menus according to your income, everyone pays the same. | would like to see a flat tax for everyone, starting with your first dollar, that way everyone would pay the same and we would have no need to file inlcome taxes. Say 2 cents of every dollar you earn goes to the government period. This would stop selfare fraud and the loonies like you.

You know, if you were trying to present yourself as the civil one, you failed miserably. I dont disagree fundamentally with a flat tax scheme, but progressive taxes aren't the evil you make them out to be. Keinlicht 1 month ago
SSFTC 1 month ago
@SSFTC Again, I would die for this country. Joining the army would see me die for a piece of dirt somewhere in afghanistan, or wherever messiah harper decides we need to shed blood next. Iran perhaps?
See, the problem with the "we need a righteous leader" midset is that it ignores the sources of power in our society, which hold overwhelming sway no matter the nobility of the character of the leader. What we need instead is a democracy that actually works.
Keinlicht 1 month ago
@Keinlicht i will agree with one thing you said here tho is that we do need something better. but what can we make out of this junk? we have to let it fail in order to make it better. is a democracy a good call?? im gonna say no but hey im just the idiot what do i know about being in charge. im gonna assume your a free thinker and if you are then you know that democracy isnt the best deal for us.
SSFTC 1 month ago
@SSFTC When I say "a democracy that actually works" I'm not envisioning the piddling wilsonian insanity that has come to be known as "democracy" to the mass media, but something far different.
I'm sorry, but I just don't see how a system of governance based on the principle of cooperative decisionmaking is "not the best deal". Any alternative would see us governed by an arbitrary oligarchy, as we are today.

Either way these spurious statements about foreign policy don't really amount to anything. Canada, Russia and the US are all vying for arctic resources, but I just don't see a war coming out of it. Not unless something drastic changes.

Keinlicht 9 months ago
@Keinlicht I said "Keynesian", not Kenyan. Look it up. It's that deficit spending nonsense that's sending us down the drain. The problem with our system is the size of our government. They're too controlling, especially at the federal level. This is why people prefer states' rights (a lot do), but our politicians just bullshit through everything.
As for the "business" parties, the Democrats are actually the "hurt the poor, hate the rich, cause dissent and bow down to unions" party.
rhinnawi95 9 months ago
@Keinlicht As for the GOP, they're the "bow down to big business and still be big government, despite talking about a small government and less spending" party. Both are the "interest groups and uber-militaristic" parties. I'm a huge Ron Paul fan, mainly because he wants to really downsize the federal government, and that's what I'm worried about. His consistency is amazing, too.
Good luck in Canada, though. I'd recommend a more libertarian system at the national level. Province rights? haha
rhinnawi95 9 months ago
@rhinnawi95 Thanks, but I honestly don't see how either country can expect to improve much right now. I feel that changes in Government policy will be superficial at best until the true sources of power are dealt with. That is to say, no significant gains on the matter of human rights can be made as long as what I call and what I think can justly be referred to as the system of Corporate Autocracy, is dealt with.
Incidentally, how is it the Democrats hurt the poor? Im not familiar.
Keinlicht 9 months ago
@Keinlicht Sure they're backed by unions, who are helpful in allowing people to have good working conditions for their members (though they take their money), but they take it to the extremes and so companies have to pay their empoloyees a lot of money often, resulting in them having less money for hiring other employess. Democrats are also big on the whole welfare state thing, and the problem with that is that they get people dependent on it. They are also ignorant on illegal immigration -->
rhinnawi95 9 months ago
@Keinlicht -->, and them being lenient allows more illegals to get jobs and less hard-working (or just unlucky) poor citizens to be able to obtain those jobs. They come up with ideas that sound good but don't work (like "tax the rich even more", giving them less money for spending and employing). When the rich buy good stuff, who makes them? Poor workers. Though many are in China, there would be more with more business-friendly policies.
rhinnawi95 9 months ago
@Keinlicht The same appeal to socialistic/liberal progressive ideas also keeps them in power for local governments including inner cities (some haven't had conservative leadership in over seven decades), and look at how well those are doing. Some of the most liberal and poorest cities, such as Detroit, are also in complete ruins.
rhinnawi95 9 months ago
@rhinnawi95 Well I would argue Detroit is the result of 'Free-Trade' agreements allowing outsourcing during the Reagen years, but I digress.
Thanks for explaining that though, its interesting to see how far working conditions have degraded that Unions can be a problem. Though Illegal immigration i think is a larger problem due to a combination of American 'intervention' in central america, as well as mexican/american drug policy causing turmoil. Though that just deals with the source.
Keinlicht 9 months ago
@Keinlicht I'm actually more economically protectionist, so personally, I favor an import tariff and to end free trade organizations (NAFTA, for example), but still allow the practice itself (with that tariff). And as a huge Ron Paul fan, I can't stand our foreign policy. We buy our friends and create enemies with our interventionism and rely on foreign nations for oil when we have a huge load over here. Sure we can go clean, but we need "unclean" energy sources for the research and development.
rhinnawi95 9 months ago
@rhinnawi95 I meant protectionist in the sense of the nanny state; funding Corporations directly or indirectly in order to outcompete international competition and foster Monopoly.
Though I think there's something to be said for 'unclean' energy being necessary for R&D of renewables, I think that the fact that north american nations have explicitly neglected decentralized, renewable power production and reduced carbon emissions is a testament to how out of touch politics and business is.
Keinlicht 9 months ago
@Keinlicht Oh yeah, our government is definitely in bed with businesses (corporations and unions alike).
As for renewable power production, I'm actually a huge nuclear energy fan, as long as we don't follow Japan's footsteps and build on fault lines and such. I personally don't believe in man-caused global warming, but a green economy could be a much healthier, and ultimately cheaper one, and healthwise and environmentally, it's good. As a Christian, I don't want to harm God's creation.
rhinnawi95 9 months ago
@rhinnawi95 Well, the scientific community disagrees with you on the question of AGW (global warming), and I personally think there's ample reason to believe Big business and other special interests have been trying to sow doubt about the consensus. I'm opposed to nuclear power, for the simple reason that, again, the fuel is limited, and there are very significant dangers. We just can't afford an accident every 50 years.
I'm happy to hear a Christian with respect for God's creation, though :)
Keinlicht 8 months ago
@Keinlicht All that matters is that we both want clean energy, and I personally think the man-caused global warming thing is a hoax for more government control. But yeah, a Christian who degrades God's creation in any way (including one's self, in my opinion) isn't doing a good job at being a good Christian, but that's just me.
Right now, though, nuclear plants provide a lot of energy. Accidents happen with all sorts of things. We just need care. Other power sources aren't as powerful.
rhinnawi95 8 months ago
@rhinnawi95 While I do see that there is the potential for power systems such as the Government to exploit global warming to gain control (such as with other crises like 9/11), I don't think that matters as to whether or not climate change has been caused/enhanced by human activity.
I'm ok with using nuclear power as a temporary resource, but the high risk of widespread irradiation makes it inviable in my opinion, over the long term. The fewer potential species-ending activities the better.
Keinlicht 8 months ago
@Keinlicht The problem is that solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectric power, geothermal; all scarce or too weak (or both). I'm sure once civilization expands into space, it should get easier with the nuclear power and such. I know solar plants on the moons north and south poles would provide a lot of power for any moon colonies. That should help with the population, too.
When I had lived in the West Bank for a year, we used solar energy for water heating, and it didn't last two showers a day.
rhinnawi95 8 months ago
@rhinnawi95 Hmm I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. There's plenty enough wind/solar energy to meet demand, especially if the living arrangement were changed(As I believe it will be), I think. Further, I think that it's entirely feasible that a combination of these along with power-saving lighting (OLED's, anyone?) could meet world demand and more. But that remains to be seen.
Also.. The West Bank? I'm sorry but do you mean the Palestinian west bank?
Keinlicht 8 months ago
@Keinlicht Yeah, that West Bank. Character limitations are annoying to work around. For now, though, green energy is too expensive and not as efficient as needed. Like I said, solar power is no good. I've always wanted one of those buildings where the building itself takes in indirect solar energy that can be used to power stuff and moderate the house temperature. However, can you imagine the cost of that? That's the problem. And it would help, but not a lot. We need to get to space, though.
rhinnawi95 8 months ago
@Keinlicht Space for reasons I stated above* (dang character limitations...). As for OLEDs, people aren't working hard enough to get those out there, you know?
rhinnawi95 8 months ago
@rhinnawi95 Well I think you've got some rather innovative ideas, moving into space-based nuclear power definitely sounds like quite the opportunity once we standardize low (energy-)cost spaceflight.
I think that we should be moving towards that type of housing though, even if 100% energy-independent housing isn't feasible at this standard of living, the closer we can get to that goal the better off we'll be. Even if that just means solar panel roofing, we should still be trying.
Keinlicht 8 months ago
@Keinlicht I just hope we could get ideas like this going without some of the right completely ignoring the idea of being environmentally friendly and most of the left wanting the government to head all this. Lucky for us, a lot of the private sector is trying to go more green and researching and innovating. Like what happened with computers (a few years ago, a 1 Ghz processor was like lightening), I'm sure this market would also boom. We just need more supply and demand (more supply for costs).
rhinnawi95 8 months ago
@rhinnawi95 Hmm, I would argue that the Private sector just doesn't have the motivation to develop true green technologies, though there are some limited incentives, the main reason 'green' technology is starting up in the private sector is simply for PR reasons.
The problem then is that Gov't wants more power through developing green tech, and industry is too selfish to put more than a token amount of money towards it. Also, i think rapid growth of high tech industry is a result of subsidies.
Keinlicht 8 months ago
@Keinlicht Haha, either way, nobody wins. And no matter the reason, at least they are moving towards more green technology and manufacturing and such. And once the government gets ahold of everything, they'll only move to gain even more power, which is all they really care about, untill they get voted out of course, and that's as long as the voting process manages to stay available. Haha, as you can tell, I'm no fan of this necessary evil.
Either way, the appeal of going green is growing.
rhinnawi95 8 months ago
@rhinnawi95 Well i'm not entirely sure the evil is 'necessary', at least in the long run, but I digress. I think that although letting the Gov't gain so much power over energy programs isn't a good idea, it's unlikely that the 'green' market will boom the way that we'd want it to. Put simply, the suburban lifestyle that most in north america enjoy isn't that viable a customer base for green tech (except maybe the electric car - which has been feasible transport for commuters for decades).
Keinlicht 8 months ago
@Keinlicht I wouldn't mind allowing some regulation, but with that come the extreme power-grabs by the government. Look at how much greener we are than we were even a decade ago. Cars are becoming more fuel-efficient, for example. GMC had a great hydrogen-powered car, and then came the government takeover. That died (though it wasn't the first, it was still great and with even great potential). With all the extra government regulations, innovation is as unappealing as money making is appealing.
rhinnawi95 8 months ago
@rhinnawi95 I accept your premise but reject your example: the hydrogen-powered vehicle is only viable for commuter transport because of the high energy cost to get hydrogen from Methane or Water, it's wasteful and destructive to use it in personal vehicles.
This is why I oppose the Corporate business model, it's highly unaccountable and inefficient at producing goods its owners (or shareholders) may dislike. The only way to abolish Gov't Tyranny, I think, is to abolish Corporate Tyranny.
Keinlicht 8 months ago
@Keinlicht Somebody told me that in Great Britain, corporations cannot donate to candidates during any elections. Maybe we can adopt a similar system here (at least USA. I don't know about Canada), while applying it to unions as well. This way, neither unions nor corporations can corrupt our candidates. It comes down to what the people want.
As for the clean energy thing, if what you're saying is true, then that might not be the best example, but it's a start. No emissions or gasoline.
rhinnawi95 8 months ago
@rhinnawi95 Canada has a maximum donation limit for all citizens (including corporations and unions - about $1000) but while I think that solves the whole 'sanctioned bribery' thing the US has going on, it still fails to address what I think is the core problem facing true democracy - a production industry run by autocracy.
I think that a Worker-owned, Democratic style of business organization must replace the Corporate one for us to even start down the road to a truly workable society.
Keinlicht 8 months ago
@rhinnawi95 Okay, here's the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland, since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet, all of you.
justanoldman1 8 months ago
@justanoldman1 Trust me, I consider this stuff. I'm talking more of being more environmentally friendly as opposed to fight this "global warming problem" I don't back.
rhinnawi95 8 months ago
@rhinnawi95 I don't really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in its entire YEARS on earth. Yes folks, Mt Pinatubo was active for over one year, think about it.
justanoldman1 8 months ago
@justanoldman1 I'm talking about going green for environmental and economic purposes. If you read my first replies, I don't back the man-caused global warming view. I also know that pollution can worsen the health of people in cities and create some waste that can destroy ecosystems (river pollution and such). As a Christian, I don't want to destroy God's creation. However, I don't want the government behind it all or to be very extreme about it (some want the world population at 250 million).

Can someone give me some solid reasons to vote one way or another? I know I can't vote, and no matter what I say will stop my family from voting Conservative, but it's just curiosity.. So who are you voting for and why?

@SantiagoxMartinez Whatever you do, don't vote conservative, ABC as they say (anyone but conservative)
make a search for shitharperdid on google... have fun!
tankusfred 9 months ago
@SantiagoxMartinez . Here is a breakdown. I will start with NDP party. Jack Layton His economic platform is so idiotic, I would not vote for him just for that reason. The Liberals for the last like 15 years or sooo have had a strong majority they had there turn and hardly did anything besides keeping Canadian banks away from US buyers. Which is good that's about it. Vote conservative give harper the majority see what he can do. He cant do much under a minority government.

GO HARPER!!!!
svoteary 10 months ago
@svoteary Really? Do you even have a clue as to what the Conservatives have done? First of all, they destroyed our surplus (created by the liberals), so I'm not sure where you're getting your supposed result of our country being out of money. Corporate tax cuts have been proven to have hardly any effect on job creation (and our tax rate is already extremely low, go google it if you don't believe me). And Harper is moving Canada to be more like the US than the Liberals would
Handshotter 10 months ago
@Handshotter The Liberals wouldnt know what a surplus looks like if it came running and slapped them in the face. Libs know surely how to spend like its going out of style. If they cant afford it, dont worry, theres another tax they can create to MAKE you pay for it. As for moving to an American system ... show me. Give up undeniable proof. You think the government will always carry your sorry ass? Think again. Its time we had some leadership in this country. Thank God Harper came along!
svoteary 10 months ago
@svoteary Yea, that's why the we had a surplus right up until the Conservatives made the largest deficit in Canadian history. And yes, they do spend, but they have a higher income because they don't cut corporate taxes when they really don't need to be cut. And a quick example off the top of my head is increased military spending (fighter jets), the general stance of Conservatives towards gay rights, their stance on abortion, and Harper's view on how health care should be more privatized
Handshotter 10 months ago
@Handshotter I'd go back and take a really REALLY close look at recent history. Lets check under the Chretien regime. Biggest downturn in Canada's history next to, oh lets see, Trudeau. What a clusterfuck he was. STILL paying for his fuck up. Oh the list goes on and on and on. Tell you what. You think Ignatieff is so great? Go to the US and see how things will be if that asshole gets into power

Jobs on the east coast both on land and at sea as never been so low. Foreign inverstors are stealing every bit of ressources we have...
Dude wake up!

@svoteary First, there is more than 2 parties... secondly : At what point does any of what the liberals or conservatives or ANY party in the history of man whatsoever did in the past changes any facts about the present?

RustyfFender 10 months ago
@RustyfFender "It is the reason the country is in debt" So a world wide recession has nothing to do with it eh?
JimmyTheKirkie 10 months ago
@JimmyTheKirkie Spending what you don't have causes debt regardless of any other influences. Recession by definition means a reduction in spending, but since there is also more money being printed causing inflation, ask - where is the money going? Could it be the current (democratic) system is simply inefficient to the point of collapse? Consider democracy being just a step in the right direction.
