I am glad that the Taino are not extint. Also im glad that history about the Taino is brought to light. For those who dont know any better please respect the native american as well any Indian tribe...my husband is part blackfoot and cherockee.... i was born in pa but both parent were born in puerto rico my ancestor are from puerto rico....i was raised in Jayuya, PR...
The Caribbean islands are part of the North America, not South American. In addition, there is very strong evidence that the Taino made it to and settled in the Southern most tip of Florida.
The Taino may have originated from the orinoco River area in South America but the fatc that they settled in the Caribbean makes them North American.
Keep in mind that the tribe was originally know as "Arawak". It was only after they settled in the Caribbean that they became known as Taino -Koa-
@BorikenWarrior . I would like to add, that the ancestors of who later became the Taino, did come to the Carribean and Florida from South America. They found people already living on these islands they mixed with these people and over time they developed the Taino Culture. These earlier peoples are thought to have come from Central America, Yucantan in Mexico or Florida. Later thousands of Mainland Natives came as slaves and they also mixed. the Taino were mixing before Columbus came.
@BorikenWarrior Now I understand why I am such a warrior. Hmmm, We could very well be from the lost tribes of Israel as they too are called warriors. :)
The Native American tribes are the least diverse people in terms of genetics. There are only 6 Maternal linages in all of North,Central and South America. These are called Holpo groups A,B,C, D and X. Holpo group A is dominant in North America and Holpo group C is dominant in South America. In Puerto Rico the Dominant linages are A and then C. Ths study indicates that all Native Americans meaning indigenous to the Americas are related.
@1980vince .With all respect to your opinion. I'm only stating what DNA science is saying and what Mayan , Apache and Other Native Elders say and have told me personally. I'm Holpo group A2 which is the same found in Athabaskin, Navajo and other tribes found not only in Mexico but also in Central America. The difference is that I also have Spanish and African ancestry on the male side. But then again so do many of these Native American people which I know and have spent much time with. Peace.
@Domingo12754 you niggerican are just as bad as those afrcentric nobodys.native american indians are remarkable people there rich history needs to be respected.
@1980vince . Dear 1980vince. Yes I agree with you about the respect. This I offer you as I've been taught to do by the various Native American Elders with whom I've had the honor of working and participating in ceremony with. I will not be answering anymore of your comments as that seems to upset you and that is not my intention. I pray that you have the good fortune of being in the company of some traditional Native Elders someday and learning the meaning of " all my relations"
I am a taino woman. Irrespetive of all the discourse, plausible theories, the nay sayers and those who would erase me from history books and from the light that I see in my childrens eyes when I speak of who and what I am and what makes me me. Tainamom2@aol.com

Not all Taino males were entirely exterminated by the Spanish. Many of them preferred death to slavery, and much less slavery to a blood thirsty god. Remnants of them escaped deep into the jungles of the inner Island.
Many of us are related to those remnant clans.... rebellious towards authority no matter the odds.
The original Native American Indians of Puerto Rico are the Taino. This is a North American Indian Tribe just like the Commanche, Cree, Blackfoot, Apache etc. The Taino became the first North American slaves. African blacks were brought in to replace the Taino as they were dying out.
@BorikenWarrior puerto ricans are not native american indian. mexicans and native american indians are one. puerto ricans are caribbean natives not the same as mexican and native american indians.

if these are real "tainos", I will never wonder why they lost the entire caribbean to the Europeans...look at them posing with lots of make-up and plastic feathers and fake suede skirts (which was impossible since there were NO animals on the islands to make suede from). just more fake taino crap...gente acomplejadas sin verguenza o principio. should be very ashamed to steal taino identity in the ghettoes of NYC...how sad.

i believe my self to be native american . i am of taino blood . i have strong taino characteristics . whenever someone asks me what am i ; i always say that i am native american from puerto rico.
It's possible on some of the islands and in certain regions. But they typically were outnumbered by Europeans and Africans. Many that are left are mixed.
To be Boricua is something special once you free your mind from the chains this government has put us in. Boricua warriors where among the greatest of all warriors know thru all the Taino empire. Borikenwarrior you are a brave lord from the land of the brave lords "Boriken"
I don't understand why they say Tainos were extinct when my great great grandma (mother's line) and my great gradmother (mother's line) were both Taino indians from the area of Guayama. My great great grandmother taught my grandfather to use Taino words, some I still remember.
The pure Tainos were extinct what survived where in us through the ages. What was once a biracial mestizo mixed with more european or black washing away the pure face of the taino. But not to fear, studies show that we have Taino in our DNA even if it's not apparent in some.
Most of our Taino ancestry comes from females that became pregnant by white spanish or other european men. The males where the first to go and then women also got sick but there was enough time for them to have little mestizo babies...
this is the thing tho yo soy "indio" perro i'm of the omaha tribe of nebraska here in the states, just spoke some spanglish to show that i am not the language i speak. i have french and irish yet i am dark and will never pass as a white man in europe. i am native even with the white blood in me, my "latino" bros and sis's need to embrace their own native blood and not feel to ashamed. thats why there isnt any unity between "native americans" and "latinos". one doesnt deny while one hides.
yeah but just as you say dont denye out taino blood, my white friend always tell me '' hey stop denying my white blood'' so i just embrace both. but you have to understand theres alot of puerto ricans who are pure white. my fathers side is almost all white you can trace his bloodline back to portugual. but i respect what your saying.
dont denie your chinese blood search it on wikipedia it will say the chinese coming to puerto rico and trying to settle and have sex with the tainas and the relationships went secret as the spanish made laws and decrees against it
so that means all puerto ricans have chinese blood, hahahahah thats insane, so what your telling me is that a handfull of chinese migrants caused every individual on the island to have chinese blood. i know theres pepole from china on the island, ive even seen chinese stores on the island but that doesnt mean i have chinese blood in me. maybe some puerto ricans do but not all.
The word extinct has differing meanings. My mother is of Seminole descent. And they are supposedly extinct. Even though there are possibly thousands if not more living in the U.S. Extinct to whites (read this in a book) means that the people are not necessarily gone, but their culture is. Another thing, the Spanish knew that they were outnumbered and they gave honorary white status Tainos that converted. Also, the Indians would go to remote areas to hide.
the west was from the indians not from the yankees las americas was indians habitans and the europeans and spaniards wanna it to destroy all the good noble indians to take over the west land marks p.s apocalipto
what white people did to the american people makes the jewish holocaust look like a small misdemeanor. what white people did to the americas was an act so far beyond genocide, that it has no word for it. without a shadow of doubt- there has been no worse crime against humanity commited against anyone, then the native american peoples. and what beautiful people they were.
I agree wholeheartedly with your accessment of the crime against our Native American ancestors and present day survivors. The Borikin Tribe was one of the handsomest of Native American tribes. We can't blame all the spaniards, its christopher columbus thats the evil culprit. I blame him most. He's a monster. May all the taino's that suffered r.i.p
They were killed by the spaniards but didn't they do it under christopher columbus demands? Christopher Columbas was no different than hitler. que viva puerto rico!
well then to call it puerto rico u are just callin it was sapaniards call it,if u have such taino pride then drop the false name of ''puerto rico'' and call it what it truly is,,,boriken
well i didn't say i had such pride and i didn't say i was a taino, i just feel it for them becaue of what the spaniards did so why is your response so harsh on me. i'm learning more and more now about puerto rico. i was born in the united state so i have way more to go. so you sayng they use to call it boriken? is that where the word boricua comes from? hey i didn't ask to be born in the us so don't blae me or say anything harsh. just teach me :)
I saw this video and it left avery deep emotionall impression on me. To Think That my ancestors in aguadilla, and in all over Puerto Rico sufferred greatly from the DAMMNED spaniards who came there.
As far as pure blood Taino, yes, that is basically true. A few people have been tested who have come near pure around the 94% percentile. Most who have Taino blood are pretty low but barring that, the Taino blood most definetly flows in many people so rumors of our extinction have been greatly exagerated. -Koa-
please for the love of god- only have children with another taino woman. your race is near extinction- if you marry a non-taino you only serve to further impurify and slowly destroy your race. please keep the taino heritage alive!
As a study that I recently read, 65% of today's puertorican people share a trace of taino blood. Although, the taino indians of Puerto Rico died long ago, the language stills linger in our culture. The words hurricane (from the god Hurakan), hammock (hamaca) and barbeque (barbacoa) are taino words that are use around the world. Small tribe, great contributions.
I wish we still had some Taino Indians left! Those tham Tainos look fucking good compare to the ones from Central and South America that look like the shit! with big teeths and big nose!even our Indians look clean and neat! viva Puerto Rico!
I am of Taino Heritage of Otoao , ( as well as Jibaro of Guahataka, of the Natal bloodline in the region of Guarionex , I am also a US Combat veteran , and proud both of my Warrior Heritage, and present day Warrior status, very few Videos brought a Tear to my eyes as this one has done. in a word simply Beautiful.................

both my mother and my father are taino
they say that there are only a handful of us left is that true?
