Forgive my ignorance, I am not a mountain climber, but going back, why couldn't Hinterstoisser, Kurz, Angerer and Ra­inier just hammer pegs across the traverse one by one and use them to plant their feet?

Hopefully going to grindelwald in a few months, though only to admire the north face. Still workin up the courage and ability to go for it. Iv heard it gets terrible avalanching and rockfall, though I still want to do it :) well done guys, utmost respect and congrats for your effort. Any other recorded ascents for YouTube? @afterthefact15 I was joking about the train.There is actually a train tunnel about halfway up the north wall. I'm pretty sure you come off the right hand shoulder where it's not as steep. It'd be hard to abseil off the nordwand because of the ridiculous overhangs.It's been donw though on rescues

The original route is credited to Harrer-Heckmair-Kasparek-Vorg. Yes they followed Hinterstoisser-Kurz-Angerer-Ra­inier who followed Sedlmayer-Mehringer...but since they're the ones who actually finished the route and all of the others perished...the route should be named after them.
