It never made sense to me that Starfleet never tried the idea of transwarp again since it only malfunctioned here because of Scotty's handy work, it's seems they could have figured that out and used again
So a Time Lord is taking Mr. Rogers carrying the spirit of a bowl-cut haired man across space with the help of a moustached scotsman, a Japanese man with a sonic screwdriver and a russian dressed up like a member of the Lollypop Guild. What's not to like?
I may not believe in God (as portrayed in the Bible), but those who say God made it, so we can't fuck with Physics beyond a certain point or create Paradoxes in time are 100% CORRECT!

Michio Kaku has an episode of "How to Build" a warp drive craft using combo's of anti matter/dark energy and using a black hole to bend space time. You can apparently write a formula for it. We just don't have the stuff to make it people. There is nothing more to say. No right materials means no "warp dri
I wonder how Uhura managed to sneak off the Starbase. I'd have though aiding the theft, and imprisoning a colleague at gunpoint would had her arrested quite quickly.
@CabhanListis...Yeah, how do you make an invisible shield that blocks lasers/plasma/other objects? Hmmm...Some kind of anti matter compound? Wait...Dark energy shield! Yeah that's it. LOL
@mitziebitzie, I hear ya on that, but let's be logical about "how far" we can alter the current known laws of physics. Realistically, we are nearing the end of how fast a computer can go. Let's say we "solve" dark mtr/dark energy and learn how to use it. Not stupid plasma coils and the other BS from the movies. Your left with 1 problem. Materials to build these crafts that can withstand Warp.
Cont...I still like Star Trek 3 though. One more thing, 2 space ships cannot travel the same path one behind the other at warp drive. The ship behind the first would be bent and torn into pieces no matter what material it is made of. Unless God helped em. LOL
@CabhanListis Energy weapons in Star Trek are actually charged particle beams of varying types. Shields are focused gravity waves. Gravity can bend light, much less particles (that's how real astronomers determine if a star has planets, for example). That's the technobabble explanation.
@Boogyman4050 you are applying the norma laws of physics as we understand them at present, but given the fact that the Cerne Particle Accelerator may have found particles that travel faster than light may have thrown E=MC2 into slight disarray and in the 24 century they may have already known this and adapted to it to avoid disintegration? possibly all facts considered at present time we will not know
@CabhanListis...You know what's funny is I've been saying the same shit for years to ST fans. Warp drive bends space time. In a sense, it expands space behind the ship and shortens it in front. Therefore, you would not see a nice straight line of light coming out of the tail of the ship. They never changed this because they felt the pretty rainbow lines looked better on the screen. Rather than using distorted and bent light around the ship as it travels at warp drive. So, it's all cosmetic. I s
Lt. Uhura's line, 'This isn't reality, this is fantasy' is a play on the line Elliot used in E.T. The Extraterrestrial (1982), 'This isn't fantasy, this is reality'.
I love how Styles is so smug he forgets that Scotty was just working on his ship. You'd think he'd have had some horrifying premonition long before his ship stalled out.
So much to enjoy in this clip. First, there's Sulu's lines which can be seen in a whole new light now that he's out. Then there's Doogie Howser's dad. And Uhura's hot 80s hair-do. And that's only the first two minutes.
What the hell is Chekov wearing?! I can't believe Walter Koenig agreed to wear such a ridiculous outfit. It looks like something you would wear at a gay pride pilgrim parade.
So .... Excelsior was the first federation ship with transwarp drive, but Scotty broke it, and now federation has to steal transwarp tech from Borg or something ? :)
@Szadol Roddenberry didn't like Transwarp so he decided the Excelsior transwarp never actually worked. A rather clunky excuse that is never officially stated.
@SkampeX you're on it! My kids and I hated the song..Campfire song is the perfect description! The music for this movie is the bomb!! Just goes to show that a great movie is not all about the acting or scripts. All arts come into play. My hats off to musicians out there!
Wow, Chekov really got shafted with the costumes. Here's Krik with his cool leather jacket, Sulu with his badass little cape thing, Scotty wearing his uniform, Bones looking like an extra from blade runner....and then there is Pavel....
Why the hell did he call him tiny, all Sulu was doing was making idol conversation with him, unsocialble git, I always felt it was so forced, also the transporter scene with the guy who looked liek he should be in a musical show like Grease, and why the hell do they have a closet it all feels so weird
One of my favourite scenes from ST3. Uhura is so cool here as is Sulu. James Horner provides an xcellent soundtrack. And ILM has the Enterprise at her finest hour. Much love 4 the classic crew :)
Never understood why the Excelsior started moving to pursue the Enterprise before the space doors were even open. Surely they didn't think the Enterprise could get out. Also, couldn't they have just used the tractor beam while they were still in spacedock? And when he tells Kirk he'll never sit in the captain's chair again, well not surprising. Kirk was an admiral and thus did not command ships anyway, not sure why he would've said that. Still a great scene though
@THorsman88 moving to pursue Enterprise, because you have an awesome ship and you cant exactly stay parked, tractor beam probably sabotaged by Scotty, never sit in the captains chair is a euphemism for you will never be in charge of anything ever again, and most starfleet people in the know would be aware that Kirk was sent kicking and screaming into the admiralty because Nogura is just a bitch that way, besides, they had to give other captains a chance to sit in the big chair.
Not many people these days get the in-joke from Star Trek III, where Scotty sabotaged the Excelsior's computer to shut down the warp drive when it attempted to go to warp and then flash "GOOD MORNING, CAPTAIN" on the bridge's screen. Those poor kids are so gypped.
Isn't it amazing how much technology relies on a few nuts and washers? :P (Just after this, Scotty gives Kirk the parts he took from Excelsior's engines)
My goodness, that climatic buildup to the 6:32 area, with the space doors opening, with James Horner's music and everyone on the edge of the seat.... incredible.
Notice how an incredible sci-fi film CAN be made without CGI, where the only things computers are used for is background decorations on the bridge. Decades later, this still stands out as one of the most entertaining of the Trek films.
@LavenderDarwin Yes I totally agree, i love the way the Enterprise is backing out of spacedock with the music and "warning space doors are closed".I cant believe that spacedock wasnt kept around for TNG Voyager or DS9!! Spacedock was a masterpiece!!!
@Gerry76alpha Actually, there was a Spacedock the Enterprise-D did went inside off during TNG. I can't remember what series or the name of the episode it was from, but it involved some kind of bubble inside the Enterprise where everyone slowly vanished and only Doctor Crusher could remember them. It all started when a frail old man who was a friend of hers was the first to vanish.
@doctorwhoone Yeah I do remember that; I could of counted it but it only appeared once in TNG. The point really was that it wasnt a regular feature of any future show when they approached Earth and its a shame as the other space stations have looked know where near beautiful
@AdisloKazdan Up your :shaft: basically instead of saying "ass"
Scene: It could mean that mr,Chehoff is quite displeased for serving under the command of the other captain and simply "venting out" his frustration via a voice command on a machine { He felt rather pressed speaking to that authoritative captain if U noticed} Hope I helped a bit there...
@AdisloKazdan from what I heard its "up your Shaft". He is in a turbo lift and it operates through shafts or connected pipes. So like the other commenters its saying "up yours" and you happen to have a shaft so up your shaft... at least thats what I got from it.
@RFKFANTS67 I don't think it was, they had his name spelled "Stiles" in the episode (which is one of the best IMO). But that would have been a hilarious reference if they'd done it.
1/4 impulse power within the starbase space station? Then FULL impluse power around the space station? Exactly how big is that station!!?? Impluse may not be light speed, but it's pretty damn fast supposedly.
@sebastiaanvanwater I was just thinking that. I've seen this movie enough times to lose count over the years, but for some reason I never noticed his weird little pink pilgrim outfit until this clip. I've always thought he was also wearing a leather coat like the others.
When the Lieutenant said "Yeah, well maybe that's okay for someone like you whose career is winding down." Uhura's face at 1:45 said "Oh no, he didn't!"
Rio de Janeiro. I´m 1 engineer due to the that I saw and I idolized in the it serializes old. the hope in the humanity in the search of new borders of the knowledge. I went by the new generation and I stayed faithful. Oh vein enterprise and the the end. I was sad for knowing that Gene Roddenberry's fire was turned off. The film of 2009 was hideous when destroying 1 icon of the hope. I will never again see the such continuation. Gene would not let to happen to distort the saga.
Ok, here's a fun nitpick. I say fun because as with most Star Trek nitpicks, who cares if the story's good. Full impulse is usually only limited to 1/4 SOL so they can avoid time dilation. That's still 46,500 miles/second. Quarter impulse would still be 11,650 miles/second. Even counting build up of momentum, the two ships would have covered the roughly 1.5km to the space doors in around 1/10000 of a second, more or less.
@Jalfmar3 You're forgetting something, Sir. 1/4 impulse is the standby power setting for the fusion reactors. Just because you have 1/4 power doesn't mean you're going to use 1/4th power. Like you said- inside the station, use the thrusters. I was kinda sorta hoping they'd use the phasers from the inside out,,,,that would have been entertaining!
@MrTrailltrader Ok, I will accept that as an axiom. I think they do really mean thrusters, impulse just sounds cooler. I thought about the fact that you're telling me that giant DOCK doesn't have tractor beams all over it? Still, it's a great sequence dramatically.
@Jalfmar3 You can see how fast 1/4 impulse is in the 6th movie, when Valaris quotes the "thrusters only in spacedock" rule. The ships blasts out of Spacedock so much faster than in the 3rd movie. Also does warp point 5 = half impulse from the first movie when they leave the ship yard. You would think at full impulse in the 3rd movie that they would have been at Pluto by the time Excelsior even cleared the Space doors ??
You left out the best part, Kirk's next lines: "Gentlemen, your work today has been outstanding and I intend to recommend each one of you for promotion - in WHATEVER fleet we end up serving in!" :-)
In his book, Shatner said that Takei was reluctant to play this scene. He said he didn't want Sulu to be called "tiny". Producer Harve Bennett said "George, you don't understand. Sulu is the hero of the scene". Takei still objected, but did the scene anyway. After seeing the picture, Takei left this message for Bennett: "Harve, I'm eating crow, and it's delicious!"
Kirk is a real friend. He risked his life, his career and his ship all to help Spock. It doesn't get any more wonderful than this!

AriochMs 2 months ago
@AdisloKazdan from what I heard its "up your Shaft". He is in a turbo lift and it operates through shafts or connected pipes. So like the other commenters its saying "up yours" and you happen to have a shaft so up your shaft... at least thats what I got from it.

If he tries to get away with warp drive, he's really in for a shock!
When he said that, I said, "Who's in for a shock turkey? This is Admiral Kirk you're dealing with".
I didn't know what but I knew something extraordinary was about to happen.
And I was right! ROTFL.

Captain Styles, pompous ass! I wonder if it's the same "styles" that served under Kirk as weapons officier on the episode "Balance of terror"
RFKFANTS67 3 months ago
@RFKFANTS67 I don't think it was, they had his name spelled "Stiles" in the episode (which is one of the best IMO). But that would have been a hilarious reference if they'd done it.

1/4 impulse power within the starbase space station? Then FULL impluse power around the space station? Exactly how big is that station!!?? Impluse may not be light speed, but it's pretty damn fast supposedly.
gothatway09 3 months ago
@gothatway09 ...Agreed. A more logical order would have been for 100 kph (62 mph) to exit Spacedock. It fits nicely with the scale of the models.

sebastiaanvanwater 3 months ago
@sebastiaanvanwater I was just thinking that. I've seen this movie enough times to lose count over the years, but for some reason I never noticed his weird little pink pilgrim outfit until this clip. I've always thought he was also wearing a leather coat like the others.

Later do they say, "Let's have space dinner."
"But first I need to go the space wc and leave a space dump."?

Rio de Janeiro. I´m 1 engineer due to the that I saw and I idolized in the it serializes old. the hope in the humanity in the search of new borders of the knowledge. I went by the new generation and I stayed faithful. Oh vein enterprise and the the end. I was sad for knowing that Gene Roddenberry's fire was turned off. The film of 2009 was hideous when destroying 1 icon of the hope. I will never again see the such continuation. Gene would not let to happen to distort the saga.
aczjbr 3 months ago
Ok, here's a fun nitpick. I say fun because as with most Star Trek nitpicks, who cares if the story's good. Full impulse is usually only limited to 1/4 SOL so they can avoid time dilation. That's still 46,500 miles/second. Quarter impulse would still be 11,650 miles/second. Even counting build up of momentum, the two ships would have covered the roughly 1.5km to the space doors in around 1/10000 of a second, more or less.
Jalfmar3 3 months ago
@Jalfmar3 You're forgetting something, Sir. 1/4 impulse is the standby power setting for the fusion reactors. Just because you have 1/4 power doesn't mean you're going to use 1/4th power. Like you said- inside the station, use the thrusters. I was kinda sorta hoping they'd use the phasers from the inside out,,,,that would have been entertaining!
MrTrailltrader 3 months ago

Jalfmar3 3 months ago
@MrTrailltrader Ok, I will accept that as an axiom. I think they do really mean thrusters, impulse just sounds cooler. I thought about the fact that you're telling me that giant DOCK doesn't have tractor beams all over it? Still, it's a great sequence dramatically.
Jalfmar3 3 months ago
@Jalfmar3 You can see how fast 1/4 impulse is in the 6th movie, when Valaris quotes the "thrusters only in spacedock" rule. The ships blasts out of Spacedock so much faster than in the 3rd movie. Also does warp point 5 = half impulse from the first movie when they leave the ship yard. You would think at full impulse in the 3rd movie that they would have been at Pluto by the time Excelsior even cleared the Space doors ??

In his book, Shatner said that Takei was reluctant to play this scene. He said he didn't want Sulu to be called "tiny". Producer Harve Bennett said "George, you don't understand. Sulu is the hero of the scene". Takei still objected, but did the scene anyway. After seeing the picture, Takei left this message for Bennett: "Harve, I'm eating crow, and it's delicious!"
