What makes this so impressive to me is that it's good music with just two people and only one with an instrument. And it's live... I know that music artists are famous because they've been recognized but they can't all perform their music the way it sounds in an mp3 or on their CD. Adele is a not only a world class singer but a real musician that doesn't have to play a guitar or anything to prove it.

When I heard that my first love was killed, we changed it up to be about reminiscence of a wonderful relationship. Why not reinvent a song that you want to cover, rather than just be a copycat?

people tend to forget: a cover version of a song is the PERFORMING artist's INTERPRETATION of the song, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. this version of The Cure's 'lovesong' is very firmly in the former camp, in my very humble opinion. Sometimes it takes a cover done with respect and love to see how beautiful the original was in the first place... see: Johnny Cash's version of 'Hurt' as well as this cover by Adele.

TL;DR: its a cover dammit!- deal with it!

I like, and I think it's also well done. A cover should be judged as a cover.

I would recommend listening to the original acoustic version, instead of just the electronic/electric. There's an MTv session of Unplugged with the Cure that was particularly good, and the version which sounds most similar. It seems like Adele is also a Cure fan, so it's entirely reasonable that she's heard that version.

Try not to harsh too much on others' similar passions which expressed slightly differently.

All the people saying there is no emotion are missing it. Singing with emotion doesn't mean singing over-the-top, like everyone on American Idol does. Quiet, controlled singing can still show emotion, and she does here. When Christina Aguilera et al try to impress us with their vocal gymnastics, they are offering it as a substitute for emotion, not as emotion itself.
